Random Saturday Thoughts

Miss FFM has her "this and that" posts - always tasteful and lovely, just like our FFM.

It has been a long week, and so I offer you:

RANDOM SATURDAY THOUGHTS!!!

1) Is it wrong that I find Joe Biden Sexy?  Sexier than Barack Obama??

2) Do you ever go on Ebay look at vintage toys or games from your childhood?

This week I looked at Mary Poppins paper dolls:

and liddle kiddles:

3) Do you ever wish some of the crewcuts were available in women's sizes:

Girls' sequin-collar Donegal dress

or

Girls' colorblock sequin jacket

4) Does anyone else love Rumer?  I discovered her last year and she is wonderful...

Photos

Take a look here.  She has a new album out and her voice is like buttah..

and finally

5) And finally, Thank you Joe Biden, for bringing back "Malarkey!"

Recognzing of course, that all of the above could be perceived as just that!

One of the outfits this week that I did not love!  Lovely black boots, lovely black and leather skirt by pink tartan, lovely cream silk blouse and J Crew roses cardi from last year.  Did not love it, but did not have enough time to change... sigh...

  1. Love this post! I had to chuckle because I think Joe Biden is very handsome and funny. I once had a dream that he and Jennifer Aniston got married. It was random.

I go on eBay on find vintage J crew since I missed out on ALOT of J crew beauties! I just bought a house in my 20s when J. Crew hits its pique in 2006-2008, so everything went to the mortgage. Oh well...such is life.

Yes, I always wished J. Crew made crew cuts in adult sizes. Too bad, because some of the crew cuts stuff is so cute!

WMM, you are so funny and charming.

    1. Thanks Wendy. I am still searching the Giverny skirt from 08. I actually started the search in 08, so is kind of my holy grail quest (how shallow am i?) I managed to score the dress last year, which I love. But the skirt... I still want the skirt...

Joe and Jennifer. She would be a lucky gal. I don't mind that he kind of shoots off his mouth - kind of great IMO!

    2. Oh my goodness, I thought I spent the longest time searching the Giverny skirt. After 15 months of intense stalking, I finally got it a couple years ago. It was only after I told myself to give up since I already had the top and dress that it came into my life. The skirt is one of my most prized items, along with the top and skirt. That is the most glorious print.

I tried crewcuts and the sizes 12 or 14 fit,but except tees and cardis,i think its hard to pull off.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Ina! I agree that you cannot pull them off - but they could surely adapt for us old gals!

      Have a lovely Saturday!

    3. Whoops - didn't mean to drag you to my level or age! How about: They could adapt them to women older than 20? :-)

  3. This is such a quirky post I love it. Oh I rarely love anything I wear, maybe once a month I actually like my outfit. Joe Biden - I barely know who he is, so can't really say, paper dolls were the bees knees.

    1. I am sure if you google "Joe Biden putting his foot in his mouth" you will find a lot...

I am so glad it isn't just me that has these "meh" moments. Honestly, I understand why people wear uniforms.

I actually gave my 16 year old son William and and Kate paper dolls for christmas last year. He was thrilled - he has a hormonal thing for Kate! They were a funny stocking stuffer!

BTW - did your mum get her LE peacoat yet? I got my charcoal one on Thursday and am SO glad I got both colours! It seemed really grabby hands of me, but for less than the price of the Majesty peacoat ON SALE, I got two lovely coats, with very disparate purrposes in my wardrobe. (I realized I was glad on weds that I had ordered the charcoal when I wanted to wear my jade skirt and the fuschia and jade was too much even for me. Since you know I long to be on the vegas strip, that is saying a lot!)

Have a great day - am working all day, but going out to dinner at friends tonight. They are gourmets, so am hopeful. AM also going to dig out the white jeans and am ever hopeful!

  4. Thank you for the compliment, WMM! I am very flattered. :)

I have not been loving what I wear lately at all. It is still very warm here, so I now feel as if I have been wearing the same outfits over and over and over again. It is getting quite tedious and uninspiring. I am looking forward to it finally cooling down here so I can wear some of my 'true' fall clothing.

I have been on Ebay lately searching for items on my list, (that I'm hoping to find at a low price) but haven't had any luck lately.

I always loved paper dolls, and still have a few of them from my childhood that my mother saved for me.

Have fun tonight! Btw, speaking of white jeans...I came across this photo of Emanuelle Alt and one of her assistants the other day, and thought of you and your post about white the other day. Click here to see it. :)

    1. Thanks! I LOVE their look - will try to pay it a bit of an homage tonight and will take pics for sure! I need a grey scarf like that for sure! Am now officially on the hunt!!!

How lucky to have those paper dolls! My parents did not save much and I have saved too much of my kids' stuff! Nothing psychological to be read into that.... :-)

  5. Great post. Never thought about Joe, and I never go on e-bay. But, I LOVED paper dolls as a child, and would still play with Kiddles today if I could (of course, I have sons- so no dolls were in my home!). I sometimes like the simplicity of the Crew Cuts sweaters more than the grown up clothes. However, I once bought the cutest and most nicely made cotton jersey top I ever saw from Old Navy. I wore it to after school pick up at the elementary school the next day, and saw 2 of my son's classmates in the same top. Needless to say, I don't buy anything from Old Navy anymore!I giggled about "malarkey" bc my high school son has been saying that for ages. I like your OOTD, but IKWYM, BC I have been stuck in a work clothes rut, too. I think the outfit is pretty- just more traditional than some of your others. Maybe it is the white blouse with the black skirt.

  6. You're cracking me up once again!
I need to catch up on your posts, I'm suffering from some jet-lag today so it will be just the cure.
I kind of like Joe Biden but of course I missed the debate. Malarkey is an excellent word!
    xo!

    1. Hey Dani! i think malarkey is just the kind of things that rascals say sometimes, isn't it?

my jet lag was wretched when I returned - woke up at 4 am for 5 days straight and you are dealing with a 6 hour difference, so I am feeling for you!

  7. Hi WMM - you are so funny! When I was small I used to get a comic book for girls called 'Bunty' - the back page had a cut-out doll and outfits each week, hours of fun! Sadly, I don't even know what Liddle Kiddles are - maybe they just didn't make their way across the pond?

    1. Oh I bet liddle kiddle have their own web page somewhere. They were wee tiny dolls that were based on fairy tale characters or were placed in little plastic perfume bottles or soda bottles. The one above is Lily of the Valley. My sister had her (I think I had Rose Red but I always wanted Lily!) I always loved wee dolls and collected miniatures, especially doll furniture, after inheriting a set from my mother.

    1. Oh Rynetta - you are my colourful soul sister! I can always count on you to go there with me!!! I hemmed and hawwed all morning as to whether to order the neon kiwi cashmere tshirt.

first angel on shoulder: "It is too bright. You KNOW it is too bright"
other angel "But it is NEON KIWI - We Wants NEON KIWI)

Wait, I think one of my angel is Gollum...

  9. If I only had that pic of Biden to go on, I'd agree with #1 but I found him horribly annoying during the debate so sexiness is the last thing that'd cross my mind. I loved paper dolls, I think that's why I became addicted to polyvore, I've described it as paper dolls for adults. ;) I've been tempted to order that CC dress and have several CC sequined tops, they are bargains compared to the women's line. Rumer has a lovely voice. I saw nothing wrong with your outfit, I thought it pretty. I'm laughing at how I am following your random points one by one ...

    1. you did very well Tiffany Rose! That is a great point about polyvore! i don't do it nearly enough and it would help me!

    2. I love polyvore for doing virtual packing before a trip, it really helps me get better organized. BTW, I intentionally ignored one of your points ... I like the word malarky too but I wouldn't give credit to Joe for bringing it back, I never thought it was out. :P

  10. Joe Biden sexy? Please tell me you are kidding. I thought he looked like the joker during the debate and when his teeth weren't taking up 90% of my TV screen I kept focusing on the glare of his bald pate beneath the combed-over implants.

    Too harsh?

    1. you made me laugh out loud, actually! COuld be because I live with a man who's head it starting to really glow as well? Go figure, huh? We can't help where the heart goes..I have a friend who thinks Steve Buscemi is really hot. He leaves me cold, but maybe as I am about to turn 50 those old guys are looking better? :-)

    2. Just a bit harsh xoxo. LOL I think uncle Joe tries a bit too hard, but who can take him seriously when he is laughing about the death of our diplomats? Sad.

We used to play with paper dolls and "cutouts" from catalogs. We would find a similar-looking model and cut out several outfits. It was easy to cut out accessories like a bike for them to ride too. I grew up in a large family and improvising on the cheap was our specialty.

  11. Joe Biden? No, not sexy and it has nothing to do with debate. I'd definitely take Barack over Joe. You crack me up... You know it is great that you watch those debates in Canada, I bet most Americans have absolutely no idea about Canadian elections. Haven't bought anything on eBay for ages but I used to spend hours looking at strangest things.
Many jcrew items look like they belong to crewcuts already, just not as cute in bigger sizes, lol.

  12. Oooh I remember liddle kiddles. I think mine was violet scented. I think there was even a scadiddle kiddle who had a scooter to ride or something. I recently rescued my old Barbie dolls, case and clothes from my parent's garage sale. They had been up in the attic and I couldn't bear to let them go. I also saved the handmade baby dolls clothes made by my great aunt. She made matching sets for my sister and I. Wool coats and pink silk dresses for dress up and cotton print dresses for play. What a fun post! The mention of the kiddles really took me down memory lane!

  13. I bought Fisher Price toys like the ones I played with when I was little, from eBay, but have since re-sold them. Also a book or two.

I'm going to have to say no to Joe Biden being sexy, and I know it lol. Please, no, never!

Your outfit looks nice but I know what you mean, some days I just know it's not what I wanted and there is no time to start over.
