Me and You, are subject to the blues now and then...

Uh oh - Long weekend!  When I arrived home on Friday I discovered that I had no access to the internet or my laptop.  Yes - I had the Blue Screen of Death.....  It is quite chilling when it occurs, isn't it?

You are minding your own business and then:

Oh No, you think to yourself!  How can this be?  Should i have avoided:

a) those imploring emails from George Clooney?  The ones so obviously related to spam and yet, in my heart, I know that George MUST be trying to reach out to me so I must respond...

b) those emails advising me that if I can only help, I will be the beneficiary of $17M in an inheritance, from some obscure place on the planet.  Am I wrong to think they need me or that it is Fred, trying to figure out how to pay for Himself's cavier in the South of France?

c) has my husband disabled all access to the internet so I cannot complete acquisition of last two items on 30% off sale?  Say it ain't so.....  Nah - he lent me his laptop, so I think I am okay...

But yes, I got the blues and that ain't good, or isn't it?  For those with my colouring, blue can be quite lovely...  So for this Monday I leave you with some of my style mavens who have made the blues their own and hope to be up and running again on Tuesday!

Kate, having just heard that WMM is buying the cashmere T in same colour.

Audrey, pensive after blue screen of death briefing..

Okay, she was perfection and stoic despite my internet setbacks.....

Heres to you, Mrs. O,  in all of your blue gorgeous-ness...

And finally, the ultimate authority on the blues:

She was pretty cheerful for a blue fairy...

What else did I do this weekend - worked.  Though I did do a Julia Child roast chicken which was divine and tried to stay out of trouble.  And cleaned and folded sweaters.  Oh yes, and then we had a mini-flood.  But is is almost November, which makes me think

ONLY 58 DAYS TIL CHRISTMAS!!!

Ooooh - I am going to get hate mail for that one... Remember, I am the eternal optimist!

Stay safe out there and Happy Monday...

  1. Oh no, the dreaded blue screen! Though it's a great color for you, I hope the fix is quick and inexpensive.

Hope to see you on Tuesday, and George doesn't know what he's missing.

    1. Thanks Tiffany Rose! I think George and I would be divine, though I suspect he likes arm candy more than an old mouthy broad!

  2. This was hilarious! I've never had the blue screen of death- something else to worry about at 3.00am when I can't sleep! I must get something blue its a stunning colour. Oh I'm planning my Christmas menu already, I love Christmas.

    1. I love Christmas, too! I get a little excessive on all things (quelle surprise!) and am dipping toes into shopping now. We don't buy for too many others - challenge is my dad in the nursing home who wants and needs nothing... sigh... Oh well, inspiration!

As for 3:00 AM - too bad we weren't on same time zone - I could call! I wake up at least once a night and at least twice per week now I struggle to sleep once I get thinking of all things I am behind on!

  3. BLUE PERIOD Irritates me that my fave shade is closely associated with the blahs. Aren't black and grey enough boo hoo hues for the cloud of depression ;-) I hope-think George will finally wise up and pick smart and sassy over statueque silent red carpet candy, one day. (You would look so much cuter on his moto in Italy WMM, hanging on for dear life.) Dying at WFF and her far-flung ransom friends. Re. Xmas have you thought of getting something for the pater's room that showcases beloved history - Campus Quilt and Preloved are both great Internet options for bed items made from special memories. (Of course, I have no idea what he'd like but tactile, cozy things always seem a bit like a warm hug in those sometimes bland places.)

    1. My dreaded and lasting BSOD appeared last month when our kitty decided to catnap on the warm keyboard, which resulted in an overheat. A panic buy at Sony is not as fun as a JC splurge, all I can say. Now religious about closing computer.

    2. Thanks GetFresh! I will definitely take a look at Campus Quilt and PreLoved!

I have young men scurrying about my workplace, all aiming to please. Apparently, my hard drive is fried! AH well - could have been some of the racy photos I have been posting for George (me in capris, me in dresses, me deciding what to keep...)

  4. 58 days!! I actually feel well started on my Christmas shopping, maybe I will get hate mail too now :-) I am more stressed about getting Thanksgiving together. We don't know where Kate got her necklace, do we? I want (a cheap knockoff of) it! When I saw her dress I immediately thought of your short-sleeve cashmere tee in Pagoda blue. I am sorry to hear about your blue screen of death, hopefully you can recover it (or have you already?).

    1. Hi Cate, you likely know the normally prudent shop-closet princess took some stick for that £49,000 Cartier Trinity piece, Olympic rings homage and all ;-) Macy's online has a thick silver Bernini circle pendant for around $300. I'd also check Links of London (which Kate also favours)and Pandora. Or for a smaller feel, Coach has a bunch of pave costume circle pendants on long chains for $70 or so.

  5. Hi WMM, commiserations on the computer shutdown. I am feeling quite proud of myself, for the first time in many, many years I have sent off my overseas gifts in time (well, on the very last day, but still ...).
Love the pics and captions, especially the Audrey one!! Are you battening down the hatches for this hurricane? We are expecting quite a bit of rain for the next few days, I imagine it's even worse for you in NB. Stay safe!

  8. My internet has been on the fritz it's so irritating. I've never seen that blue screen we only have Mac's. I think the blue screen is very scary and looks like something out of the 80's!
Well I won't be posting today I've wrecked my back and I had to go to the store which was FULL of crazy people because of the storm. I'm exhausted! Are you battening down the hatches? My little girl is demanding that Halloween be rescheduled and I made the mistake of saying it's "not a real holiday", I got an earful on that one.
I love Christmas but I haven't started shopping yet. First thing I do is get a little notebook so I can write everything down that I've bought, otherwise I forget.
My priority this year is to make a proper Christmas cake with weekly lashings (I got that word from Tabs) of brandy! Sounds good doesn't it.
    Stay warm and dry. xo

    2. I've had that screen but mine was black . Not surprized that it turned blue as that's your favourite colour. Even the screen is in jewel tones .
58 days till Christmas is even scarier.

    3. Oh Dani - so sorry about your back! Mine has been tweaking and I blame it sorely on Barry's wretched beast of a laptop!

do NOT tell Miss Sweetie - I HATE Halloween! There, I have said it! I am just not a costume gal, which is odd... Hang in there! Lashings is such an awesome word!

    4. Thanks I think I hurt my back doing the exercises that are supposed to protect my back! It feels much better now that I'm on Advil with a glass of white wine chaser.
Guess what I also HATE Halloween and I always tell The Rascals how much I hate it too.
No mop today Marsha though I have kept moving, sitting at the computer is the worst thing for it methinks.
      Thanks Cate!
LOL lashings of Baileys, actually I wish I had some of that in the house...

    5. Poor back! I think Halloween is over the top now - when I was a kid, you just threw on your day's old shirt, a hat and some soot! Now it is sooo much bigger - goes for days!

    6. Oh Dani, I'm so sorry to hear that you've hurt your back again! Please do try to rest as much as possible!

  10. What a hilarious post, WMM! Thank you for the laughs! Blue is one of my favorite colors, and like you, is also one of the best for my coloring.

I knew Christmas was getting close, but wasn't aware that it's only 58 days away now. I do not have any of my holiday shopping done yet, but have been trying to get ideas from my hubby and boys so that I can at least get started on their shopping asap.

Is there anything special that you are asking for this year? Do you leave hints for your hubby or just tell him flat out?
