J Crew Reviews - Colour me pink and pale grey..

The recent 25% off full price promo was welcome by me, but not by my wallet.  I did order some lovely pieces and oddly, they were all pretty much in the same colour story...

First up is the factory cotton cardigan in the bright dahlia colourway. I ordered a medium in this, which is my typical size, although I have had to go down to a S in the Tippi cardigan.  I am wearing these with the herringbone wool cafe capris that I purchased in the black/cream colourway.  The latter is a very misleading colour description.  It feels more like a grey-cream colour story.

Sadly, I see that I accidentally deleted the photo of me wearing these same trousers with the heather grey tippi cardigan and they are quite a lovely match.  For a point of comparison, I am wearing charcoal grey shoes and these are decidely lighter.  I am wearing my typical 6 regular in these capris and they are very comfortable.  If I ordered a tall 6 they would be like stovepipe trousers on me!

Same trousers, but this time with the Tippi pullover in the fuschia colour.  This is a true pink, whereas the dahlia has definite purple undertones!  This is a medium as I like to be able to wear blouses under these.

That said, I ordered the small check perfect shirt in fuschia.  I like it, though it is a bit "gape-y" at the bust.  It will have to go under a sweater, till I lose these darn 10 pounds again!

In this picture you can see the real brightness of this top when placed beside the fuschia tippi.

This picture kills me - it looks like the old opening segment of Laverne and Shirley, when they open the doors side by side!

I ordered the herringbone skirt in the watercolour blue.  I am still tossing and turning over this one.  I will not return it as I paid all of $50 CDN for it, but it still has the tags on.  Here I am wearing it with a Joe Fresh silk blouse:

I have it paired with my black sweaters, black jackets, the grey tippi, but other things???  Maybe my navy schoolboy wool blazer?  I looked at how AJC paired it, but I do not seem to have those items in my closet!  All advice accepted!

I also purchased the black cashmere tshirt, which I will model when I get my cheetah skirt.  Oh God, I sure hope I like that one!  And I drank my crewlade this am, ordering the navy silk camisole with the little rows of sequin.  I really love that top and I am imaging it under my black tuxedo jacket with jeans!

Have a great day and stay safe out there!  More reviews of other, non-JCrew items on Friday!

  1. Fuschia is a great colour on you! Have you tried wearing the herringbone skirt with plums and purples (gives a more wintry look)? Or for more contrast, yellow?

  2. Hi Louise! Those are great ideas! I do not have much in the way of plums and purples in my wardrobe, but will dig around! Pale yellow or brighter yellow?

  3. Loving you in pink, it is so pretty on you, and suits your warm, lively personality as well. The Joe Fresh shirt is great, jealous, we don't have them here yet, coming to JCPenney in the new year, I believe.

I love those skirts, haven't bitten yet, as I have so many wool pencil skirts, but they call to me. Makes me think of To The Manner Born, have you seen that old series? Both Audrey fforbes-Hamilton and her loyal sidekick Marjorie would've worn that with great verve, love those two. In classic English gentlewoman fashion, they could do almost anything in a skirt!

What don't you like about your pairing with the pale blue skirt? I also think I would like a monochromatic look, maybe with the navy blazer on top, or pulling the cream in the herringbone out with a cream-y sweater, like the Tippi, with a great necklace. It does take some experimentation, integrating something new--I look forward to what you come up with!

    1. Thanks n.b. Good advice on the cream - I have some and will give that a try!

I personally also like wool skirts with boots. Don't know why! The older I get them more boot-crazy I become!

I have never seen that series - will have to go look it up! Sounds wonderful! I was a litle worried about ending up looking like Miss Marple!

  4. Hi WMM, the sparkle row cami is very pretty and decently finished (JC of yore). I returned the FP one to store here, but am debating at sale this a.m. With Louise re. the blue pencil outfits, grey or blue toned purples would work, especially a darker lavendar, I think. I would also try it with lots of the other existing blues in your closet, especially "blueberry" and navy, which might help create that tonal, tall gal with pins look. It could also work with brown - like a chocolate v-neck, scarf with blues, and brown boots. (In same rowboat, in a random "more colour" moment, I bought the "purple" version of same skirt, but still working on closet pairings.)

  5. How wise to buy things in similar colors. It makes accessorizing even easier. I am with Get Fresh. I would wear the skirt with cream and brown for accent. I don't wear much burgundy, but I know AJC has put together some great outfits with burgundy and blue. I like the way they styled it (or another similar skirt) in the catalog with green.

  6. Lovely purchases. I ordered that same cami but in mint and nude. I really had to restrain myself from getting the navy as well. I imagine it with my bright dahlia capris and a black Zara blazer:). And of course under a suiting jacket for work. Alright, I need the navy as well. I really can't pick jus one.
For the herringbone skirt, have you tried a navy cashmere t, or a light pink but not too pale. I can imagine it in my mind but I am not describing it well.

  7. Love the bright pink and grays together. Look you have a color story now, here and with the pea coat! I wish I could do that but I am all over the map with the colors I wear. I would like to see how the fuscia looks with the blue herringbone pencil skirt, it could work, especially with some navy mixed in. That cami is very nice, I tried it on in the store. I am looking forward to seeing the cheetah skirt reviewed.

    1. Not fuscia (I spelled that wrong, didn't I?), I mean the bright dahlia. And maybe mix in navy OR gray with the blue herringbone.

  9. I love pink and gray and I wore very similar outfit last week, wait till you see it... For the skirt, I love your pairing, I found the skirt a bit tricky but in my experience it works well with muddy shades, not so good with clear ones. My few Brora cashmere sweaters in gray-ish and brownish tones work well because they are 'heathered'. Burgundy would be pretty too, and of course black and white. I never worry about having thousands of options, just couple that work well, that is only really important with a very small wardrobe imo.
Oh, and the boots and wool skirts are the best!!!

  10. The fuchsias are wonderful, I suit that colour too but have only one top in it, must add more of it in. I just noticed the club motto up in the corner!

    1. Tabs - you would look amazing in the fuschia I think! As for the "club" - the great thing about the club is that whoever shows up is in!

  11. "Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!" :)

Oh WMM, you are just too funny with the Laverne & Shirley reference, and yes, that picture does remind me of that part of the opening segment now that you mention it!

I absolutely love, love, LOVE the first two outfits on you! They are extremely flattering to your figure and your coloring. The herringbone skirt also looks nice on you, and I think others before me have given some really good pairing suggestions for it. My addition is to try your polka dot blouses with it, possibly under a navy blue sweater or your navy blue blazer.

I'm looking forward to seeing your review of the Cheetah skirt. I just received the Martina calf hair wedges (that match my bag), and have to say that they feel like they will be extremely comfortable. Perhaps something to consider if you are looking for more comfy heels that you can walk in. Hopefully the solid color ones would be comfortable, too. :)

  12. Thanks FFM! I have got to try those Martina wedges - I really would benefit from a funky pair of shoes! I thought of the polka dots as well. I am going to try a couple of things and let you folks be the judge! Can't wait to see those wedges on you!

As soon as the cheetah skirt arrives I will do a review! I have new party shoes and with the black cashmere short sleeve t, I think I have an outfit!

I have been thinking of Dani all week and hoping she is having fun! Oh to be in Paris!
