Thanksgiving!

While today is technically Thanksgiving here in Canada, we tend to do our big meal on Sunday at lunch time, since earlier in the day is better for my dad's dementia and we like to loll around on the Monday holiday!

The table before the guests arrived?  Do you like the goblets?  They are blown glass made by one of my childhood friends who lives in Ontario now.

The flowers, with some gourds lolling around.  This is a metaphor - we are the gourds, having eaten too much of this:

It's about 3/4 done in this picture.

This is the apple tart (an ina garten recipe) just before it was popped in the oven.  It looked glorious coming out, but by then I was too busy talking and forgot to take the picture before it was in everyone's belly!

It was too yummy...

I wore my Joe Fresh sequin camisole, Anthro moto sweater, green minnies and my green velvet loafers which I blogged about several weeks ago. Surprisingly, I look thin in this picture, which is odd as I have put on all the weight I lost this summer and now must start again so my clothing actually fits properly!

Doesn't my couch look festive in its pillows?

The rest of the day was spent

a) buying me my first pair of diamond earrings (more details on that later!)
b) going for a long walk
c) watching "you've got mail" - another Nora Ephron fairy tale which is the movie equivalent of cinnamon toast and hot chocolate for me!

Hope your weekend was lovely!  I see J Crew is offering 25% off final sale for canadians using the code CANADA and for my American buddies with the code SHOPJCREW.  I checked the UK site and see they are offering free shipping and free duty till the end of the year, though I suspect that may have been a deal going on for quite awhile..

So to all my fellow Canadians - Happy Thanksgiving!  And for the rest of you lovelies - have a wonderful Monday and stay safe out there!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, WMM! It sounds as if your holiday meal was absolutely delicious! I must try those apple tarts. Do you happen to have a link to the recipe, or could you possibly forward it to me?

Your table looks beautiful, and love the goblets. I'm sure they are some of your most treasured items!

Love your outfit, and I am looking forward to hearing about your new diamond earrings, too.

Do you have any special plans for today, or are you just relaxing? Whatever you decide to do, I hope your day is a very enjoyable one! :)

    1. HI FFM - found the recipe for you here:

      http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/french-apple-tart-recipe/index.html

I really recommend any and all of Ina's cookbooks - they never fail me!

Thanks about the outfit. The earrings were a bit of a planned surprise - an early 50th! I will definitely post about them!

I sadly actually did work-work this morning. This afternoon I am going to do some work around the house and then relax and read!

    1. Well I kind of felt like I did in Boston when I was trying on things in store! Got so carried away that I forgot to take pictures! ANd honestly - you are the queen of taking the self-portrait in the dressing room - I seem incapable of taking a good photo that way!

  4. I love the goblets, how special to have and use in such a personal manner something made by a long-time friend.

You look wonderful in your outfit, and I'm sure it's comfortable and festive too.

I much rather have had your dinner than mine yesterday (though husby said is was his favorite), it all looks scrumptious. Your entire day's activities so fun and lovely.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Thanks Tiffany Rose! What did you cook?

If you ever find yourself in Kingston Ontario, the Fireworks glass studio is SO worth a visit - they are amazing artisans (my buddy included!)

    1. Oh Cate - do not tempt me! Of course, my universe is all swell now, thanks to the diamond stud earrings. I have to do a long post about them next weekend!

I LOVE american thanksgiving as well. I am quite crazy about you Americans and grew up in a small border town. For me, that Thanksgiving Thursday is the start of Christmas for me!

Thanksgiving in NYC is on my bucket list!

  7. Happy Official Thanksgiving WMM! Your outfit looks easy, stylish, comfortable festive and yes super-slim - no mean combo - woot! I know that Fireworks gallery on Queen St. and have an ornament from there. Had to go in since a friend of mine worked at the Fireworks Gallery (mostly jewelery) in Hfx. Yesterday we had our fun Nova Scotia Crystal gift pieces out - I am still always mesmerized when I get to Historic Properties by the puff-spin-blow-glow of the glassblowers. Early congrats on the earrings too! Diamond studs to replace my current everyday earrings, which I have had since 21, are on my milestone gift list. But I've told the DH firmly Italy beyond Roma first. (And he always teases me about diamonds being disappointingly "un-Anne".) Curious whether you went with Birks, Blue Nile, Tiffany, or another local/e-tailer? Will look forward to next weekend's sparkler story...Hope your work-work catch-up helps a smooth start tomorrow.

    1. GetFresh - I am pretty sure we are soul sisters! My engagement ring was a pearl ring with teeny miniscule diamonds on other side (which fell out about 10 years after we were married), since YOU-KNOW-WHO wanted a pearl ring....

My friend is the owner of that shop - a funky little chick with glasses and more spirit than a body has a right to have! Cannot wait to learn where your shop is. I have seen Susan blowing glass many times and it is about as close to magic as I can imagine!

I am as caught up now as I will ever be work-wise! Which means, I will never be caught up!

  8. Hi WMM, Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Hubby and I watched 'When Harry Met Sally ...' last night - we thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again, only sad that Nora and Bruno Kirby are no longer with us.
We are having a very lax Thanksgiving weekend, only 3 of us (No. 1 Son elected to stay in uni in Ottawa) - we are having our turkey very soon and just did some fall cleanup in the garden.
Look forward to hearing all about the earrings - I would like to get some too, so classic.

  10. WMM NovaScotian has been around since 1996 and is located on Barrington Street in Hfx. It makes me smile that they call the glassblowing "dancing in the ballroom of hell" and I appreciate that the studio is open to the public whenever weather permits for a few hours each day. They have re-popularized fully handcrafted crystal, both very traditional, like their tourist successful Titanic pattern, and more modern pieces, like rum glasses and the design we have a bit of, Luna. If you ever get a chance, do go. And I will be sure to re-visit your friend's shop when next in Kingston.

  11. A belated Happy Thanksgiving, WMM! Thanks again for your question re: Daniel Thompson. I finally got around to posting a reply on my blog (apologies for the lateness, it seems I am behind on everything these days). Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to test his products and there are no ingredient lists posted on his website. If I see it in a salon in Toronto, I will be sure to check it out.
