Happy Birthday Lane!

Not everyone likes to have their birthday remembered, but since our Lane is such a cool chick and this is such a wonderfully, gloriously significant birthday, it is worth celebrating!

The other night, Lane mentioned in her blog comment that she was told that the Perseid Meteor Showers heralded her birthday each year.  Tonight, I am heading back out as I expect something really spectacular, for our dear Lane is now entering the next big decade, the one that I can see and which is coming soon!

Lane, I read with interest that on August 13th, 1953 France had a massive general strike.  I cannot believe that it was related to your birth, but one can never know for sure..

Oh you can think these signs refer to the French government killing the health care system if you want, but really they are saying:

Vive le naissance de Lane!

Oh the French, they love a good time...

Some other key events of 1953...

  • Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest....looking for Lane
  • Stalin dies...Lane takes no responsibility
  • The Korean War ends...thanks to Lane
  • Salk gives himself and his family the polio vaccine...says he did it all for Lane
  • The Royal Yacht Britannia is launched... what - you think Lane is going to go around in a motor boat?
  • Watson and Crick announced that they have discovered the double helix structure of DNA... thank you Lane!
  • And the rationing of sugar ends in the UK so they can celebrate Lane's birth..
Lane, I hope you have the loveliest of days and enjoy my little humorous homage to you!

Many, many, happy returns and much love from all of us in the this little corner of the interwebs!

Oh and for the rest of you - I do so love to know people's birthday...if I lived around the corner from you I would be singing Happy Birthday at your door (now aren't you glad I don't?)  - would love if people would share off line if they are so inclined!

  1. I was going to keep it a secret but since you love to know people's birthdays, I will just say mine was recently past, I too am a leo and sounds like WFF as well. Love to hear you sing at my door, I'll pretend you did. :)

Happiest of days and many, many more to Lane!!!

    1. OH TR - Happiest of birthdays! You can send me a note off-line if you like with the date - I am a collector of birthdays, people and shoes and not necessarily in that order!

  5. You are a darling! Thanks so much, and no, I had no idea the day marks this giant strike! Figures. Hope you all saw some of the meteors this past weekend; I have watched these all my life. I asked MLane for a letter for my birthday, and it is so beautiful I've already had my little bday cry.

    Thanks to All!!

    1. oh - what a fabulous idea! How romantic! I think a milestone birthday deserves a fuss! Like Julie last month, I am a firm believer that people ought to be welcomed into decades, from birth straight through till 100+! I hope you have the most wonderful day!

    1. Thanks Louise - nice for us to have a little "do" for Lane! I went downtown today and found the rosehip oil that Jennifer recommends. They were out of Curelle, but it is coming in next week so they will hold a bottle for me and I will let you know as soon as I try it!
