Happy Sunday!
Am feeling slightly "wobbly" this morning - we had a fabulous supper at our friends' house last night; much wine was drunk (by me), the food was amazing - including a homemade Timbale, which I had never eaten before! So good.
When we got home, we went out on the deck for awhile to see if we could see any shooting stars from the Perseid Meteor Shower. Apparently, tonight is the peak, with up to 60 shooting stars per hour, so am giving you an early heads up (Ruth head outside NOW!). We saw a few, though apparently, the best time is around 4 in the morning.
Wait I lied - Barry, my son and his girlfriend and my daughter all saw a few. My eyes seemed fuzzy. I sat on the lawn chair and looked up, but I might have dozed off...I will try again tonight!
Last week was busy, but you can always learn a few things and here are some things I learned this past week.
1) do not check if the caramel top of your crème brulee has "set" with your finger.
Not proud or happy that I did that. It doesn't hurt anymore, but I have a blister which will likely last for months...
2) it actually does help to do an inventory of your clothing before you actually buy anything for fall.
I know that you all have been telling me that. This could be the year I actually only buy what I need or will wear and which actually matches what I already have. I am working on my inventory and recording it all (though my inventory is getting to smaller and smaller as I constantly shed more skins and embrace others) and it is quite an interesting exercise.
3) Gladioli are lovely, but they require a lot of propping up.
They are like a really pretty friend that constantly wants you to reinforce to them how pretty they are...
I have been staking them all week and still they droop and fall over. Maybe they have heard about "THE TURN" from Mr. BP and are all weepy... Who can blame them? It makes ME weepy!
Now I am off to lay down for a bit...It's been a long week...And I have SHARKNADO taped! I missed it when it was first on, but I wasn't going to take the chance of missing it again and PVRd it last night. Oh thank god I live in a world where they make movies about tornadoes filled with sharks attacking LA....
You would never know I had a good education would you, what with taping this and putting my finger into the crème brulee....If it makes you feel better, I am reading Virginia Woolf....
Have a happy Sunday and stay safe out there!

Enjoy your sunday Wendy and the dinner sounds delishious that you had.
ReplyDeleteJust goes
Just go a little easier on the wine next time:)
I might stop by jcrew today, because i am looking for a modern dining table which is no small job(and it should be affordable too).
ina, not sure what your price point is, but have you tried Crate & Barrel and their hipper off-shoot CB2, West Elm or Design Within Reach? Also check if there is a Herman Miller store you can get to. Good luck with the hunt, it can be hard to find modern quality at a not mid-century antique price point.
DeleteThanks Ina! Oh wine - all goodness and badness in one place - all it takes is a few extra sips...
DeleteWine...was that the truck that hit me last night??
DeleteGF,i found my table at crate and barrel.
DeleteIt is a Parsons table in white with metal legs.
oh good for you Ina!
DeleteWell it sounds like you had a big night and Sharknado seems the best cure! Wendy you're so funny.
ReplyDeleteI would also have poked my finger in the creme brulee. Oh no your garden has heard about The Turn have they, that MrBP and his big proclamations!
Please tell Mr. BP he has pushed me into denial.
DeleteBut today is fantastic and if I can drag myself upstairs and get dressed and put on makeup so I don't look like the crypt-keeper, all will be well. Barry is running around all chipper! He has even changed the sheets already, opened all the windows and is sallying forth saying things like "what a day this is!" very loudly!
DeleteI had the day like Barry! Loads of energy for no good reason and I even repainted my entire garden shed the perfect shade of green, tell Barry!
DeleteHaha the crypt-keeper!
Oh good for you Dani! I thought the shed looked good before, but I can't say anything since I need to repaint the gazebo and about everything else, it seems!
DeleteLIFE LESSONS Well WMM is has been an instructive week then. And glad you are tackling the inventory ;-) There's a special astronomy session at resort tonight with campfire, wish I could bring you all along...
ReplyDeleteDamn - I love that kind of thing!!!
DeleteAnd he's off. Tyler left this morning so I will be in a rut all day. I do know my first "project" will be the jack n jill bath the kids share. Have i lovely day...I will be moping and slugging it today.
ReplyDeleteWell am going to email you - I HAVE A STYLE STATEMENT (Dani found the book and is doing hers and I am going to write a post on this this week in the hopes that others will take the journey!) You hang in there - Oh I love it when they have their own life and hate it all at the same time...
DeleteBB I hope your day went well I know your pain. Have a good week and a project is an excellent distraction.
DeleteThat film sounds nuts, off to look it up!
ReplyDeleteOf creme brûlée, such evil deliciousness
It is especially evil when you put your finger in it. Just sayin'...
Deletehi, Wendy ! I always stay up for the Perseids, but have rarely seen anything I could identify as a meteor.
ReplyDeleteme neither. Do you think if I stick my finger back in the crème brulee that will help?
Deletenot a chance.
DeleteWe lay on chaises looking for meteors too last night. Only saw one because of the cloud layer. I'll try tonight too!! Ouch, on the finger. I do things like that sometimes and wonder what I was thinking!!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful here today so I am quite hopeful I will have better luck tonight!
DeleteLove gladiolies! My grandmother and I used to grow all types of flowers in our garden at our summer house. I miss her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool mom you are that your adult children and their gf/bf like hanging out with you!
What a great memory that is! I don't know if I am a cool mother so much as I am here! They are nice kids!
DeleteTrust me, you are a cool mom. Kids their age wouldn't hang with you otherwise. It's that turning age.
DeleteDamn! read this too late to catch the stars last night.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your poor burnt finger..
Well I fell asleep on the couch, Ruth - so me too!
DeleteWe saw a few dozen shooting stars last night and will be out looking tonight as it's the peak. We saw a couple of fireballs-- so awesome! I was taught these herald my birthday every year.
ReplyDeleteLove lists-- not getting much this year.
Gladioli are not my favorite, but I grow them as nothing seems to eat them. I have orange ones this year I quite like.
I had a couple of orange ones too, which I quite liked! Good for you on the stars and how romantic your parents were to tell you that!
Deletewe saw a few last night around 12am... sadly we are fogged in now in San Francisco! I hope you see some more tonight!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura - nope - fell asleep!
DeleteI love your blog and you are a very good writer but it is "lie down" not lay down. Lay needs an object.
ReplyDeleteThis is my number one grammar peeve and it is sad to even well educated people of my generation getting it wrong.
Anon - you are absolutely right and I can only say that my grammar can always be improved!
DeleteEven with a fuzzy head you still manage to post. Well done Wendy and sounds like a perfect evening ending with star and meteor gazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marsha! Hope your weekend was grand!
DeleteTrying to stay up late tonight to see some! Love those SyFy originals - Sharknado was fabulously bad. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMerry Wife - it was hilarious!
