Hi all!
Hope your Saturdays are going to (or were in your case, Ruth!) be filled with a lot of good times and relaxing times. Lots to chat about this week!
1) We are going to have babies!
No, silly - not me. These old eggs are on the way out... But our lovely xoxo is going to have twins! I haven't been this excited since Gigi had her long-awaited bundle. I am looking forward to xoxo's pregnancy, cause you just KNOW that she is going to be uber-chic and stylish and it will be fun to watch! Most importantly, this is something she has been wanting for a long time, so many heartfelt congratulations. I loved being pregnant, despite being ill, and our girl xoxo is going to do smashingly!
2) Sofia Coppola
You know I love Sofia! She is so cool and chic and smart!
So imagine my delight when I saw that the Wall St. Journal's WSJ Magazine had an article today on her favourite things.
I love the idea of taking the time to think about and curate a small number of one's favourite things. I may do a post on this in the near future and will be of course interested to her yours! Oh Sofia - love your choices - so personal, so YOU...
3) Ben Affleck as Batman
Yesterday's announcement that Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in the upcoming Superman-Batman movie was the online equivalent of a cold shower. The shock was palpable. I like Ben okay, not sure he isn't too old to be Batman though.
But honestly, how could this be worse than this:
4) Madonna Gets Grills
Our friend Coulda Shoulda Woulda wrote a great post on this. I can't say it better. However, I will repeat the comment I made there: Madonna was supposed to be the cool chick, the trailblazer. Wouldn't it have been interesting if she would have skipped the plastic surgery and chasing questionable trends and kicked the hell out of aging in a natural way like these women:
I can SEE all of these women's former selves in the pictures above. And yes, they may have had a bit of work. But still. I am finding it harder and harder to find the Madonna of my youth...
I know, I know - she's a chameleon. I know that she's a woman working in an industry that wants all women to look like they are 21. And I am hoping that the grills were just done to get us all talking about her in a shocked and appalled way. Please God, let that be the reason. Cause if she thinks they look good...
5) What Maisie Knew
We rented this movie last night and I cannot recommend it enough. Based on the Henry James novel of the same name, it is a contemporary re-telling of the novel, in which self-absorbed divorced parents all but abandon their daughter in their desire to stick it to one another and pursue their own desires.
The cast is excellent, but the little girl who plays Maisie, Onata Aprile, is the true star and she delights you and breaks your heart throughout. I highly recommend this!
Well that's it for today! Have an awesome Saturday! We are off to have dinner with friends tonight - folks we don't know too well, so it should be an interesting evening!
Stay Safe out there!

Stevie Nicks - yes, you looks 60, but she is 60... |

What great news!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for xoxo!!!!!!
Congrats xoxo!!!!!!!
I will be checking out some new arrivals today:)
oh will be curious as to what some of the things are in person!
DeleteCongrats to xoxo!
ReplyDeleteI am not normally not a batman fan but my renewed interest in Ben might get me to the theatre...
Thanks for the mention re Madonna. I hope it was just a joke as well - I would love to see her made over and looking chic - she could be a legend!! Patti Smith with a facelift just would not be right...
I don't think Patti would have ever dreamed of facelift!
DeletePerhaps Madonna is auditioning for a remake of "The witches of Eastwick"?
ReplyDeleteYes, congratulations to xoxo. She must be in the tiredness phase which seems to lift around 12 weeks. Hard to work during that.
Sofia is just so cool. May be time for another reviewing of "Lost in Translation", my favorite of hers so far.
that is a great film! I like the idea of the witches of eastwick..
DeleteStevie Nicks looks really good, Madonna looks like a vampire. I am not a fan of Patty Smith's look above. If the hair weren't gray, it would look right at home in some of the J. Crew style guides.
ReplyDeletewell I think patti inspires love or loathing, but she still inspires! not sure what old Madonna is up to..
DeleteI don't love or loathe Patti Smith, I just don't aspire to her look above.
DeleteOh God - me neither - she scares the bejesus out of me!
DeleteCongratulations xoxo! Very exciting news. If Madona keeps this plastic surgery up she'll begin to resemble that horrifying socialite in NY, they refer to as the Catwoman. "Madge's" cheek implants are beginning to rival her breast implants which are so large and shiny, you could fix your lipstick in their reflection. IF, you wanted to get that close to her, which I wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteStevie Nicks is fabulous. Always has been.
I love Stevie, too! I just think that Madonna is just trying so hard and I feel kind of sorry for her daughter...
Deleteyay for xoxo!!!!!! I LOVE how you celebrate other people. You're amazing.
ReplyDeleteoh thanks Rynetta! I am so happy for her!
DeleteThank you for letting us know! That is truly wonderful news! Squee! :)
ReplyDeleteI know! I do love a pregnant woman!
DeleteWendy, i reviewed lots of crazy pants and new arrivals!
ReplyDeleteWendy, I am blushing over here...
ReplyDeleteThere comes a time when a woman (or man for that matter) has to leave behind certain things, it just is no longer "right". It all depends on the woman though, Tina Turner could wear miniskirts a lot longer than most thanks to her fabulous legs but the grille is already passe so Madonna is just making herself look older by jumping on the trend so late.
Hope your dinner is wonderful and you get to know the friends a little better. Sometimes it is nice to meet with the fringe friends. I find the conversation can be lighter and there are more revealing moments.
Xoxo - you were right! Very nice night!
DeleteThank you for the congratulations ladies! It's so nice of Wendy to share the news. :^)
ReplyDeleteWell I am genuinely so happy for you! Hope you are feeling well?
DeleteCongratulations xoxo, boy you are going to be kept busy!
DeleteHi Wendy! Had a great Weekend here. It's now Sunday night and I'm almost comatose on the sofa!
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats to xoxo! Such exciting news!
Madonna's grille is just WRONG.
I'm so out of touch with youth culture I hadn't even heard of a grille until Naomi's post!
Ruth - I only heard about it through Naomi, too!!!
