sunday follow ups!

Okay - first an apology - Get Fresh could only stay about half an hour yesterday (she promises to stay longer next Saturday) and we gabbed so much that we forgot a picture!  However, she came bearing gifts, including several baby bottles of sparkling wine.  In her honour, and in solidarity with Tabs, who was drinking her own champagne in the old country for her birthday, I had a wee bit of the bubbly...

Note blue shiny shoes in shot.  I was dressed demurely for GF, but had to have some bling on!

Remember the honeysuckle shrub yesterday?  Well about 20 minutes after GF left, the high winds and rain caused part of the trunk to split (it had been leaning/heaving a bit anyway after a hard winter).

Well Barry ran down to the plant nursery immediately for a consult with the tree doctor there.  After much discussion, he then spent an hour and a half in the pouring rain, drilling holes and repairing the trunk and staking it up:

see the screw and washers?

we are quite hopeful and so far, all looks good...

So in addition to his other talents, Barry is now a tree surgeon!

Thanks to Patricia's heads up, I spent about an hour watching the Swedish royal wedding.  I must confess: I knew almost nothing about the Swedish royal family, except that I knew the name of the King.  So I read a bit on Wikipedia and I am happy to tell you that there is as much soap opera-ish drama around this family as the British royal family.

Having said that, I LOVED watching the coverage in Swedish - such a melodious language, though I did almost creep into my own commentary a la my favourite swede...

Bork, Bork, Bork!

But the couple was lovely!  The groom was emotional as he watched his bride coming up the aisle and they seemed genuinely joyful and in love!  Lots of reaching for each other's hands constantly, etc.

The Bride wore a lovely dress and I thought her hair was divine!

Newlyweds: Princess Madeleine and her new husband Chris O'Neill looked the picture of happiness as they appeared on the balcony at the Royal Palace following today's ceremony

The daughter of Crown Princess Victoria, one year old Estelle, nearly stole the show:

Joining the family: From right, Sweden's King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria with her baby daughter Princess Estelle, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip look on as the couple exchange vows

A much simpler wedding than Will and Kate's, and one where it was obvious that there was a lot of love (not that I don't think Will and Kate don't love each other; I just always remember that day in 1981 when it didn't seem that there was overwhelming love...)

If I recall, only Tabs and I are zombie aficionados, but I did want to mention that we watched Warm Bodies on iTunes the other night and it was great fun.  Traditional story - zombie boy eats girl's boyfriend, falls in love with girl, and starts to become human.  It is a cute movie and while it will never win a prize, it is good fun!

What are you up to today?  I have a bit of housework to do, have to go pick up Forrest's tuxedo rental for prom and hope it stops raining long enough to take a walk!  Have a wonderful Sunday and stay safe out there!

    1. Hi M! I was thinking of you last night, as you have a pictured pinned on pinterest of the same potager I based mine on - too funny! I meant to write to you last week and recommend a fence, since all critters like to visit a garden. Last week, I accidentally left the door to the potager open and the groundhog ate the tops off my italian parsley, then helped himself to a little swiss chard... not good.....

Well it is good to know another aficionada when the zombie apocalypse starts!

  3. Oh but I am a huge zombie fan also. My favorite is still Sean of the Dead with Zombieland a very close second. I like my undead with a bit of humor. There is a three part zombie series on BBC called In the Flesh...I will start watching today. Gearing up for GAme of Thrones. Rob...sob..sob. He was my most noble, faithful eye candy. Oh, did enjoy Star Trek.

  4. That Barry is a wonder-- I hope the shrub survives.

Here's to bubbly with GF on her return!

The Swedes are my people--my grandfather was a Swedish farmer, had something to do with the kings's horses, and emigrated in the 20's. I have his passport signed by the king. ( I'm from a mixed marriage, mom being Norwegian). I will have to see if I can find some proceedings from the royal union.

    Zombies leave me cold...

  5. Hi WMM,
Sorry, I belated just read your posts of the last few days. Work beckon, and beckons...I caught a glimpse of the wedding pictures on line. I love the detailed dresses. So gorgeous.I adore the smell of honeysuckle. I agree, they don't build them like that anymore- although when they did, they had a staff to maintain them. I never saw zombie anything, so I suppose I am Un-Zombie. I hope you enjoyed your champagne!

  7. Funny, you should mention 'Warm Bodies', Wendy. My husband and I saw it last night. I've NEVER been a zombie fan, but I actually enjoyed this movie. It was pretty original and had a happy ending. What more could you ask for? Enjoy your Sunday!

  8. Hi WMM, I've heard of Warm Bodies and I think I might actually like it, due to the humour, as I'm not at all a fan of scary stuff.

How wonderful that you and Get Fresh met up! I hope you get a photo next week. Today we went out for lunch for Fathers' Day, then the boys scattered to the winds and we did a bit of gardening.

I so enjoyed the wedding - the groom was so emotional, and Princess Estelle was adorable. That tiny gilt chair was so cute!
