It is a different thing, getting a boy ready for Prom. Three years ago, when my daughter went to prom it was a whole day affair - hair, makeup, dress, pictures, etc.
With the boy, it was completely different - he rolled out of bed at 3 pm, showered, shaved and into tux by 3:30.
His lovely girlfriend, came with her mother, her aunt and her grandmother to take pictures. We lucked out, as aunt is a professional photographer and so the two pictures I am including below are just snaps Barry took - we are assuming there will be spectacular ones to come!
After the prom, ten of their friends came back and swam and then watched movies. They were very quiet and I slept like a baby. You can't complain about that!
As I said last night, his girlfriend's dress was very Downton Abbey meets Indie girl. Lovely couple!
*************************
I loved the girlfriend's dress, mostly because it wasn't the typically-big confection that is so favoured by teenage girls everywhere (and prom dress designers!)
I love a vintage-inspired look, and thought I would share some other dresses that I found when taking a look:
The one above is perfection. This is very much Anne-meeting-Gilbert in the orchard stuff...
And if you like flowers...

Don't you love a little glam on a Tuesday?
I am wading in to the madness that will be the going-out-of-business-sale and the local shop I mentioned the other day. If I get any goodies, I will share!
Have a happy Tuesday and stay safe out there!
Well I woke up to bits and pieces of a dead bird in my bed...compliments of evil kitty Cricket. For whatever reason, she has abandoned Emily for me. Sigh. I also enjoy hosting the "kids". It's always fun. Off to work today. Happy sales for you.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Birdie bits!! Cricket didn't used to the Godfather, did she?
DeleteI would always have them here and know they are safe than worry about them running the roads!
So glad it went well; girlfriend is a cutie!
DeleteGlam would be ice today, yes; as it is I'm off to Boston for the day in black capris, black Everlane V tee, black and tan knit blazer and Korkeases. Not glam.
Sounds pretty good to me!
DeleteAh yes Lane, but you do sound practical, hot weather chic.
DeleteOh, they make a lovely couple. I like her dress, her hair, the entire look. It's so refreshing to see a vintagey gown for the prom, not the usual strapless and glittery things you see all around. Enjoy your treasure hunt today.
ReplyDeletethanks Marie - don't know if I hope to find a good deal or not! :-)
DeletePRETTY IN PINK WMM, I have always envied males there rapid-ready ability and for a long time I tomboy emulated. Glad all the young ones were safe and quiet for your sake. Good luck on the store hunt today - but remember the Kikis and road trip ;-)
ReplyDeleteTheir/ there, can't type before second coffee, swear.
Deleteoh and those cardis... though I was looking at my featherweight cardi in periwinkle and it is really pilly - I am going to see how the de-pilling works and if it doesn't work well, I may keep none! I also have to go to the congignment shop - they have money for me!
DeleteWhat a beautiful couple they are. Love her dress. How wonderful that they were quiet and that you slept well, I'm so happy!
ReplyDeleteFull report on boutique sale please, may the force be with you!
I think there was no alcohol down there! It was markedly quiet, though I did beg the son to keep it that way since DD had to go to work this a.m.!
DeleteOh gorgeous couple! I love her hair and dress - how cool that your son just got up and got dressed - no faffing for boys!
ReplyDeleteSorry for my silence. I was felled by a vile gastric virus, so have been very out of action. Hope to be more fully back soon x
ruth, was wondering last week another club member gone AWOL. Gippy tummy begone - feel better fast!
DeleteRuth - I hate the vile gastric virus - awful stuff - glad you are on the mend!!!
DeleteRuth, I hope you get better soon! Virtual hugs from this side of the globe!
DeleteThey look gorgeous! Congratulations on the big milestone!
ReplyDeleteThe tux looks grey, and so does her dress. We want a full report of the sale! I'm missing the bathroom plant, so *chants* pictures, pictures, pictures :)
I tried to go to the sale but there were 200 women around the block! I will go later in the week! Yikes! His tux was grey, here was a very flesh-y pink.
DeleteSilly autocorrect, I meant great not grey :) They are both so cute!
DeleteThat is just adorable - both of them! And they came back and watched movies? You are a lucky mum but I am sure I don't need to tell you that :) Oh I miss proms...
ReplyDeleteYes, they stayed up all night and watched movies. One of the mum's came to pick up her son to take him to work this morning and said "I am so glad that they all found each other and came here instead of to some drunken party like the rest of them." Amen!
DeleteLovely photos, they are a sweet couple and are clearly enamored of one another.
ReplyDeleteHope you had good luck at The Store!
No luck yet - CRAZY lines! I only stand in line for Disney World and alcohol!
DeleteHi WMM, they make a lovely couple, nice how your son colour-matched his tie and pocket hanky to her dress.
ReplyDeleteHope you get lucky at the big sale!
She saw to the good colour-matching! I saw a preview of the professional photos - my son said "it;s like we got our wedding photos done and he was quite horrified!
DeleteThank you for sharing your pictures of the lovely couple. The dress looks beautiful from the back! I agree, nothing is worth waiting in a crazy long line like that. You are a great sport to host the after prom party.
ReplyDeleteHi Knityarns! We had fun and they were all safe and that was good!
DeleteYour son and his gf and just so cute! I had to laugh at him just rolling out of bed at 3 and ready by 3:30. Boys are just so different. My son graduated preschool on Friday. I had him in a nice button down and a bow tie. By 3 pm, he wanted none of it but just his t shirt for the ceremony. Most of the boys at preschool were in shorts and t shirts while the little girls were waiting in line to get their hair curled in their fancy dresses. Girls and boys are very different. Hoped your son had a grand time. Ah to be young again but with wisdom again! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove your story about your son - too cute!
DeleteOT-I received my J Crew catalog for July and they have some fancy capris, Wendy. Made me think of you. Some cute ones, I must say but I didn't see anything that had the 'wow' factor.
ReplyDeleteI should wait now till fall, but we will see...
DeleteOh my gosh, she has star quality with that pink hair and that divine Great Gatsby in the woods dress. And yes agree so fabulous that she was so original!
ReplyDeleteShe is also very sweet, which is best of all!
DeleteWhat an adorable couple - great photos! Congrats - high school graduation is such a major milestone.
ReplyDeleteApologies for the absence in commenting - I recently got some bad news and it's hard to keep up with the blogging.
Oh Louise - sending good thoughts your way! Hope all gets better soon...
