Tuesday, in which our heroine hosts 12 after-party guests and doesn't mind a bit and shares a little glam...

It is a different thing, getting a boy ready for Prom.  Three years ago, when my daughter went to prom it was a whole day affair - hair, makeup, dress, pictures, etc.

With the boy, it was completely different - he rolled out of bed at 3 pm, showered, shaved and into tux by 3:30.

His lovely girlfriend, came with her mother, her aunt and her grandmother to take pictures.  We lucked out, as aunt is a professional photographer and so the two pictures I am including below are just snaps Barry took - we are assuming there will be spectacular ones to come!

After the prom, ten of their friends came back and swam and then watched movies.  They were very quiet and I slept like a baby.  You can't complain about that!

As I said last night, his girlfriend's dress was very Downton Abbey meets Indie girl.  Lovely couple!

*************************

I loved the girlfriend's dress, mostly because it wasn't the typically-big confection that is so favoured by teenage girls everywhere (and prom dress designers!)

I love a vintage-inspired look, and thought I would share some other dresses that I found when taking a look:

1930s Summer gown. Powder blue faille, waistband & cap sleeves w/ white tambour embroidery & cut-work

The one above is perfection.  This is very much Anne-meeting-Gilbert in the orchard stuff...

Hands down one of the most amazing 1930s gowns I've had the pleasure to offer! Ivory crepe back, texured satin silk bias cut gown has flat bows atop shirred shoulders, deco rhinestone sash and deep V back. Coordinating capelet has cowl neck in front and rhinestone buttons down back

You knew there would be a little sparkle..

And if you like flowers...

Don't you love a little glam on a Tuesday?

I am wading in to the madness that will be the going-out-of-business-sale and the local shop I mentioned the other day.  If I get any goodies, I will share!

Have a happy Tuesday and stay safe out there!

  1. Well I woke up to bits and pieces of a dead bird in my bed...compliments of evil kitty Cricket. For whatever reason, she has abandoned Emily for me. Sigh. I also enjoy hosting the "kids". It's always fun. Off to work today. Happy sales for you.

    1. Oh no! Birdie bits!! Cricket didn't used to the Godfather, did she?

I would always have them here and know they are safe than worry about them running the roads!

    2. So glad it went well; girlfriend is a cutie!

Glam would be ice today, yes; as it is I'm off to Boston for the day in black capris, black Everlane V tee, black and tan knit blazer and Korkeases. Not glam.

  2. Oh, they make a lovely couple. I like her dress, her hair, the entire look. It's so refreshing to see a vintagey gown for the prom, not the usual strapless and glittery things you see all around. Enjoy your treasure hunt today.

    1. Yes, they stayed up all night and watched movies. One of the mum's came to pick up her son to take him to work this morning and said "I am so glad that they all found each other and came here instead of to some drunken party like the rest of them." Amen!

  10. Thank you for sharing your pictures of the lovely couple. The dress looks beautiful from the back! I agree, nothing is worth waiting in a crazy long line like that. You are a great sport to host the after prom party.

  11. Your son and his gf and just so cute! I had to laugh at him just rolling out of bed at 3 and ready by 3:30. Boys are just so different. My son graduated preschool on Friday. I had him in a nice button down and a bow tie. By 3 pm, he wanted none of it but just his t shirt for the ceremony. Most of the boys at preschool were in shorts and t shirts while the little girls were waiting in line to get their hair curled in their fancy dresses. Girls and boys are very different. Hoped your son had a grand time. Ah to be young again but with wisdom again! LOL!

  12. OT-I received my J Crew catalog for July and they have some fancy capris, Wendy. Made me think of you. Some cute ones, I must say but I didn't see anything that had the 'wow' factor.
