Rich and Skinny jeans and Allie Sandals

Happy Thursday All!

This week has been quite lovely around here - it is slightly cooler than it has been, but very sunny indeed and a welcome treat!

We had old friends for supper last night, which was great fun!  They loved the chicken calvados recipe that I shared yesterday, we had a sorrel/lovage salad from my garden topped with tiny violets and a rhubarb crisp, also from the garden.  Yummy indeed!

Late yesterday afternoon, the Allie sandals arrived.  I was nervous taking them out of the box as I was anticipating them being uncomfortable given my last experience with jcrew sandals.  But nope - these are great.  If the other colours go on sale, I like them so much I would order a different colour!

I was downtown yesterday running errands and popped into a local shop to look for jeans.  I have 2 pair of jeans to my name these days - the ralph lauren white jeans and a very inexpensive (and too large) pair of Joe Fresh boyfriend jeans.

I find shopping for jeans the equivalent of shopping for bathing suits - you try on a lot and you are horrified with a good portion of those try-ons.  I knew that I wanted skinny jeans that went to my ankles, were a lighter wash, and which were not so skinny that I couldn't cuff them.

After much looking and trying, I ended up purchasing a pair by Rich and Skinny, which struck me as immensely funny, given that I am neither rich nor skinny!  I was not familiar with this brand, but then, I am the person with two pairs of jeans to their name, one of which cost $30!

So last night, I cuffed the jeans and paired them with my Nougat London boho top and the Allie sandals.  I really liked this look a lot!

And a close-up of the pants:

I really love these jeans and am glad to have found them!  Since my old job was so dressy, spending money on jeans was always an add-on.  I like this fit so well I will likely go back in the fall and pick up a pair of dark wash jeans!

What's up with you today?  I have some writing to do, need to do some housework and some errands and book some hotel rooms, as Barry and I are going on a solo trip to Ontario for a week in July and will come home through the Berkshires, a place I have never been to!

And my friend was back yesterday.  I had a stern discussion with him and he left.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe out there!

    1. Ina - I KNEW you would love the jeans! Next time I will wear them with heels and a bracelet! I will blatantly steal your style!

  2. Love, love, love your outfit! After seeing your Nougat top with white pants in a previous post, I had to have one too. I blame you now, I bought the Baja top in blue and I am recreating your look with white pants and jeans. I love jeans and own too much. The best fit for my figure are AG and Paige. For some reason, Jcrew jeans never fit me right.

    1. Marie, how did the Baja top fit?
Is it TTS? i was thinking about the white one.
      TIA

    2. I am curious about the Baja top as well! I couldn't mail order jeans - too hard! I have had Paige before and like them quite well. I just didn't get over to the store that sold them. I know Dani loves her goldsign, but I always have to try on 2 or 3 sizes of the same jean to get perfect (not too tight not too loose) fit.

    3. I took the smaller of my JC sizes which is a 4. I bought it w/ the 30% off, still expensive for what it is but it's so comfortable & easy to wear. I have not been buying much from JC so in the rare times that something works, I pounce!

    4. ina, it fits tts but since you work out you might find it a bit small in the shoulders area. I wouldn't size up though, the 0 fits perfectly. Did you see it in my new arrivals post?

    5. I did Ema,but i have been boxing a lot lately and do a lot of core workout(TRX).
You said in your review its a little tight in the shoulders,so i am scared it might be tight on me too.

  3. What a fabulous outfit! I agree with Ina and Marie, totally casual chic!
It's so hard finding the perfect jeans... I tend to stick with the brands that fit me, and rarely bother with others. I've never heard of Rich & Skinny either... What a mad name! The childish part of me wants to start a brand called 'Fat and Broke' or something....
Your dinner sounds amazing last night. I'm jealous of your visitor! We get massive possums in our back yard. They look like huge tea cosies. The cats get very cross with them, but they're no match for the possums.

    1. I think that the raccoon would definitely take Indy down. He is awfully cute however - when I talked to him he went round to the other side of the fence and stuck his nose through the lattice, almost like he was in the corner while being dressed down!

  5. I agree, brilliant name Rich & Skinny, a good take on the saying " you can never be too rich or too thin", which I don't agree with btw. I wonder how the brand Not Your Daughter's Jeans fit?

    1. I tried them and thought they would be better named "not your daughter's jeans because you have a pot belly and we would like everyone to see it"!!!

  6. I love your new jeans, good job in finding them! Never heard of this brand (thanks Marie for the explanation of the name), maybe it's Canadian?
I can't believe that racoon in your garden, my daughter would be delighted to have him as a friend.

  7. It is lovely to see that you still make an effort to look nice all the time...I feel guilty bc 80% of the time I am in lululemon and I don't even work out! I need to turn this around and maybe some day I will feel more inspired to do outfit posts! I found a pair of jeans that fits normally and isn't fashiony but they fit so of course I buy several pairs and will wear them until they are threadbare!

  8. Once again I am scared out of my wits by that giant raccoon! Is he of an especially large breed? My gosh be careful Wendy!
I think you look rich AND skinny in those jeans, seriously you're ready for the yacht with George in that outfit. That wrestler girl (Stacy? Tracy?) is stepping aside!

    1. too funny! i think he is the size of all around here - but maybe they are bigger in nb? everyone weighs more than central canadians - maybe the raccoons do too?

  9. I've got news for you my dear, he is not your friend, he is your neighbor. Raccoons are territorial. If you've seen him twice, he has moved in.

    Great jeans!

  10. I love those jeans and that whole outfit! I like metallic silver and blue together, apparently. That's it, I'm ordering those sandals. Silver is more practical than the lavender Allies I tried, right?

Agree with xoxo, raccoons are not your friends! Move that food source away from your house! You don't want him hurting your dog or coming in for dinner. I think it's bold the raccoon is so close during the daytime, I would worry about that.

  11. They can also become rabid. I have a laser-sighted pellet gun from the LLBean's...I know, many of you will not approve.

Those jeans are very flattering. Fun to buy a smaller size, isn't it? I find it exhausting buying them, though.

  14. I LOVE your outfit, it's fantastic on you. Actually, I had this epiphany, I think this is exactly your style! You look great in this slightly boho style, it just goes so well with your look, your hair, your personality, etc. I think you could not really sport it in the past because of your job but you can embrace it. I am so excited I want to say ditch those Jackie cardigans and pencil skirts. Well, not necessarily, but ykwim? Or is it my own fantasy that now wants to live vicariously through you, since I cannot quite pull it off?
Glad the sandals were exactly what you were looking for. You made me try them on again with my boyfriend jeans but still nope. I ordered a wedge silver sandals from Boden, so we shall see, but I have to wait 4 weeks for them, what a bummer.

    1. AJC - it is funny - and a good thing - that we all like different things!I agree on the slightly boho and how it does fit more into my new life. Funny - I was out this a.m. and picked up a great cardigan from H&M that was definitely more boho and very nice and inexpensive! I have not worn one of my pencil skirts for months! When I do some work in the fall, they will likely see the light of day, but certainly not now!

    2. AJC, your epiphany about Wendy gave me one about you - I think you should embrace your desire to dress more boho and figure out how to overcome the obstacles to that (urban living, what suits you). Don't know if that makes sense, but I think you might find it solves some style quandries. I have lately adopted a style that I'm calling go with your gut & am managing to dress in a way that I have always been drawn to but never thought worked on me/for my life. I haven't got it all figured out, but I am amazed how easy it is to put together something that feels 'right' now.

I read your blog and really think you should give go with your gut style a go :) I know you already have been lately, and I would encourage you to push it further! Hope this unsolicited opinion is not overstepping xo

  15. Fantastic raccoon pic. I hope you wear those silver sandals all over the world this summer because they are such fun. I wrote Ina about my Peony tee and that I have been wearing it way too much, but I love when J.crew puts these types of items out. The ones that make you feel good and want to wear to pieces. I hope the sandals are that type of item for you. All the best, CC.

    1. thanks CC! You are right - it is awesome when you find some things that you love and want to wear a lot. I was giddy when they worked last night and I kept looking at my feet all night, which was probably odd for my guests!

  17. Love the outfit! The blue and silver look wonderful on you, and you positively radiate health and happiness in that photo.

Raccoons are troublemakers. I have been trying to grow corn in my backyard for the past two years and every time they have eaten it before I had to chance to pick a single ear.

If you are passing through Toronto in July, I vote for a blogger get-together!

  18. You look great!

I loathe pants shopping and thus own very few pairs.

The garbage cans in Toronto have gotten harder to break into & now the racoons have taken to tearing up people's yards! I would keep your pup away from that guy. My husband lost a childhood dog to racoons :(

    1. Hi Marsha! I think they could work for sure as you can tighten the ankle straps quite a bit and that might hold your food in place. I picked them up at the 30% off sale and am glad I did!
