Random Saturday Musings

Happy Saturday all!

It has started to pour here as we start to receive the remnants of post-tropical storm Andrea today.  I always find this funny - post-tropical storm.  Really, it is just a rainstorm now, isn't it?  But our Atlantic Hurricane Center loves to track these things and since I am personally a big fan (though often disappointed) of our meteorologists, I say: Have at it!

Lots to chat about this weekend!  Ruth - avert eyes from first two items, my Republican friend!

1) Prince Philip in the Hospital

Some love to hate him, I love to love him.  I don't agree with everything that comes out of his mouth, but I do feel that he is likely the most genuine royal.  Poor old Prince Philip is back in the hospital this weekend, having undergone exploratory surgery.  Exploratory surgery is never great and it is especially never great when one is 91-soon-to-be-92.  Prince Philip has had his share of health problems over the past few years, so I wish him well!

Meanwhile, his wife was gallivanting around:

2) Queen Photo-bombs BBC:

Newsflash: Presenters Julian Worricker and Sophie Long turn round to find the Queen has turned up during one their bulletins

The Queen was visiting the newly refurbished BBC digs when she showed up behind newcasters, live on the air.  Although you can't tell from her face, I suspect she get quite a delight in surprising them!

And of course, someone jumped on it and decided she should photobomb other famous scenes - the following pics are from buzzfeed.com:

She is a cheeky monkey!

3) Happy Birthday, Miss Bourbon and Pearls!

Our beloved Tabitha is having a birthday this fine day!  I recommend a visit to her wonderful blog, Bourbon and Pearls, to send her regards of the day!  She is the most erudite of bloggers and has made me reach for my dictionary on more than one occasion!

I hope you are doing the snoopy dance Tabs!

Lots of love!

4) Yes, We have some bananas...

I actually had forgotten that 3 months ago I had pre-ordered the banana linen tank top until they advised me that they had shipped it last week.  Yesterday it arrived:

Here it is on - NO, I would not wear it with the necklace - I was wearing it with another outfit, and was too lazy to take it off!!

I gotta say - I love it.  I don't know why!  Now I have to buy a racer-back bra - which I needed anyway - and until then, will wear it under a cardigan.

Two thumbs up, to quote our Miss Gigi!

And this was what I was wearing first:

I love this cardigan - it has gold thread in it and I bought it at H&M for $30.  Just call me a golden girl....

5) Honeysuckle

There are few things in my garden that give me as much pleasure as my honeysuckle shrub.  I have several other honeysuckle vines, but when the shrub blooms, it is fantastic.  This is right in front of my my hummingbird feeder and they like to sit there and watch the world go by.

The latin name for honeysuckle is Lonicera.  When I was a child growing up in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, there was a large house that had been converted to a senior's housing complex called Lonicera Hall.  The house, and the name, always seemed so romantic to me, and so when I first spied honeysuckle after moving into my current house, I bought some.  and then bought some more...

Lonicera Hall was built in 1841.  It was bought in the early 1900s by Gilbert Ganong, he of the famous Ganong Chocolates (so worth a visit to the chocolate factory).  Mr. Ganong's favourite plant was a honeysuckle, hence the name!  Some pictures:

I remember trick or treating here as a kid and always being gob-smacked by it!  They don't make 'em like that anymore, though if I had some money, I sure would!

So that is my Saturday!  Am off to make muffins, as Miss GetFresh is popping by en route to greener pastures!  What are you up to this fine day?

Have a happy day and stay safe out there!

  1. That's a whole bunch of nanas there! Will definitely make people smile. I am off to buy some flowers and herbs. It is not suppose to rain today but boy does it look like it will. If so, I will go see Star Trek. If not, I will toil at yard work. Happy Birthday Tabs!

  2. Hi BB! Star Trek is great fun - so you can't lose either way!

It is one big puddle here - no chance of gardening today. Barry is supposed to paint down in the family room - we are about 1/2 done the reno and the new windows are in and walls crack-filled, so he has to do his part again!

  3. What is the protocol when queen sneaks up behind you on air? I wonder...No, exploratory surgery is not done lightly esp in the over 90 age group so something is really wrong; as we say here, "he had a good run".

I'm not seeing the bananas, but you enjoy; love that second outfit with sparkles.

Give my best to GF-- I owe her an email.

    1. Hi Lane! The bananas are definitely an acquired taste, but for $30 and under a cardigan, a fun thing for summer!

GF is wonderful, but we talked so much we forgot to take a picture! She came bearing baby bottles of sparkling wine, which means she is of the race who know Joseph! So we will do some action shots out in the garden next weekend!

    2. Lane, the DH has re-noticed how close ME is (all relative when you are driving from Toronto) so I suspect you may have visitors to your garden later this summer or fall as well. I have told him about my fave lobster roll on the planet (which he knows is high praise). And he can't believe I found an online club member right next door. (WMM, not to worry, if you come along I will keep my crustacean to myself and find you a lovely winged thing or summat.)

  4. Well other than the Queen I finally met someone who loves the Prince! But seriously, wish him well of course. But I am a bit royaled out, Regent Street has banners everywhere commemorating the coronation. It seems like I am living in the middle ages over here...

That top is ba-na-nas as Rachel Zoe would say! What fun :) Have a lovely day

    2. I am saving Game of thrones for the coming winter so I can forget the cold...Normally I try to be au fait with things but I am still scarred by the recent winter that I need something to look forward to! But honestly the last several years I feel like I attend more family events for the Windsors than my own.

I'm watching the Swedish Royal Wedding - Princess Estelle has her own teeny tiny gilt chair to sit on!! It's a beautiful wedding!

I do hope that Philip comes through this surgery well.

  9. I LOVE the banana tank! It goes perfectly with your plant in the bathroom ;-). I am glad to.had fun with GF but I was waiting for the pictures! Next time I guess.
I poured all day yesterday but today it is dry if not super-sunny. It shouldn't be long before the rain stops up there.
It is funny, giving that I am fascinated by all kind of celebrities, I am not the least interested in the life of royalties

  10. Hi Wendy, I'm so glad that the banana tank works for you. I'm waiting until the store gets them in to decide if the XS would work better than the S under the arm holes without being too short. In the mean time I need a racer back tank for underneath. It definitely needs a racer back bra also! Have a great Safurday despite the rain! I hope to be able the catch the royal todo. I'm a sucker for all things royal. Beats the Kardashians IMO:)

And for anyone still reading, our WMM's clubhouse is as wonderful IRL as this virtual one. Promise piccies next week when have time to visit properly again. 15. Wow, this banana tank is quite a statement piece! Looks really fun and cheerful on you, i am afraid i could never pull it off. I always wanted to live in a house with the tower room. We have quite a few in our town but they were always too expensive to even consider.

    1. Hi Ruth! What is the temp there these days? did the butterfly skirt come out to play this weekend?

  17. well, backstairs chat has it that Prince Philip is not a nice man, but I do cherish the memory of the time he cut off some journalist or philosopher who was trying to get his own point of view on WWII through - and HRH said, "It didn't seem that way to those of us who actually fought in it."

I would have loved to have seen the Queen on any. ANY. of the BBC's cooking shows, they all have an endearing dollop of goofiness, and now that the Buckingham Palace gift shoppe is selling themed plastic aprons...
