Miller Time Friday - Get on Your Boots

Hey...Sexy Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah...

U2

It is 2013.  Does one actually "need" anything any more, except for perhaps good governance and a real and sustained approach to the environment?

No?

Well, I always kind of "needed" Frye boots.

Frye boots are the quintessential boho-meets-the west boot to me.  I think of girls with flowy dresses...

....or jeans tucked in

So yesterday, I finally made it to the big sale at my favourite local shop, which as you know is closing. This is quite a tragedy to me; the store has been an institution in our town for 40 years and is the only place in town to get good shoes, Eileen Fisher, Nougat London, Tahari, etc.

I expected that most of the stock would be picked over, but no: there is a TON of stock - I am not sure how they will be able to move it along before they close in a couple of weeks is beyond me!

I did not buy much, but felt happy with my purchases:

Donald J Pliner Denda loafers, scooped up for $75:

A Nougat London tunic-style dress, also for $75:

and my favourite purchase,  a pair of Paige Tall Riding Boots in Cognac by Frye:

The first time I went through the shoe shop, these boots weren't there.  I went back to take one more look around and to say goodbye to one of my favourite clerks when I saw them putting out a stack of Frye Boot boxes, around 8 pairs.  They had found them hidden behind a shelf in the basement.  There was one pair of 6.5 and these are the exact style and colour I have always wanted!  I couldn't be more happy  and the $225 price tag was a real steal; have never seen them around here for less than $450!    These boots will "see me out" and are a classic and perfect for my new life - I was definitely NOT looking for dressy clothes!

And a picture of me in the boots:

Kind of channelling my own inner Ralph Lauren model..

Of course this impromptu shopping trip means that for sure most of my J Crew order will be returned and I will have to absolutely limit myself to one cardigan, but that's okay!

In honour of my new boots, let's have a cocktail, shall we?

Boot Hill

Combine whiskey, Applejack brandy, lemon juice and sugar in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.  Put on your boots and drink up!

Leave the porch light on Dani - me and the birds are a-comin'!

Stay safe out there!

  1. Oh my gosh. Lucky girl. I ordered the Lindsay Plate Frye boots from Piperlime on deep discount but they were black and I am very short and before I knew it I looked like Santa or a fireman. Your Paige's are perfect. Love them.

  2. Oh! How fabulous! Frye boots are on my 'need one day' list!!
They look amazing with your tunic, and such a great price!
I've almost ordered some SO many times, but always worry about size etc.

    Good buy, Wendy!!

    1. Well I am typically a 6 or 6.5 and these are a 6.5. They are very comfy (I had a pair of short socks on), but they were a bit of a bugger to get off as they are tall with no zipper etc, but that is pretty much the case with other boots I have that are similar. I would say they fit TTS. There was no break-in stage - they are surpremely comfortable. There was a short pair in size 6, and they were too tight.

  3. Wendy, that sale was custom made for you. Those are lovely and timeless purchases. OMG, that drink seems as if it would be delicious. I love Drambuie, and whiskey based drinks. Enjoy your treasures!

  4. Wendy, we are on the same wavelength again with the Frye boots. I'm going to buy the Frye Chelsea boots in Cognac very soon. Great minds think alike. Those Paige boots look fab on you. I was eying them too last year, but decided on the Fyre Erin in black. Great investment, by the way. You're going to look a million bucks in those boots. I remembered you wore a white button down and brown belt with jeans. Those Paige boots would look divine with that outfit! Ah, sales...always a fun time when you get a great deal which looks like you did!

    1. HI Psychic twin - you are right! I like all of the Frye boots actually, but I do not have boots this colour and this is more my style. It was quite an exciting find - even Barry said "that was a good deal" - amazing!

  5. How fun, getting a long lusted-over item for such a good deal! I like your outfit. And I love your loafers.

    1. The loafers are so cute! Pliners for $75 is a good deal around here. But oh no - there won't be pliners around here now. sigh....

  6. Although I love the look of riding boots..I bought Em those exact boots for her birthday last year...I know I will never wear them. Odd thing about me, they make me feel claustaphobic. My feet need to be free and wriggling at a moments notice. Toast to good weather!

    1. BB - maybe it is also your weather? It gets so cold here all fall that boots are an absolute must!

    2. Blue Booby, I was exact same, must-have wriggle factor, until I moved back up north. As WMM says, necessary fashion in our parts. I still hate tights for same claustro, encased sausage mental reason.

  7. BOOT UP WMM, laughing, we are exact Frye twins, right down to size and colour, although I never do boho.

Those DJP smoking slippers a total score too. Wish I could have gone shoe bargaining in Freddy Beach with you. Will settle for making a cocktail later - my favourite solstice day of year and a Friday :-)

    2. Oh good idea, GF!

There were definitely a LOT of great shoe deals - but most were for very dressy shoes! There were some La Canadienne's there for 1/2 price, but I really do not need winter boots, so I passed on those.

  11. I have always loved those boots, what a great find! And the dress is great too! I am sorry your shop is closing. I like the shoes too but i don't get as excited about black loafers (necessary as they might be) as I do about Frye Paige riding boots (woo hoo!) :) These will be a more satisfying purchase than anything you just ordered from J. Crew. Hope you have a great weekend!

I was really and truly looking for that kind of boot for fall, so this was a happy find! I sort of felt like I was in a Ralph Lauren lifestyle ad, and expected Ralph to gallop up in his horse!

  13. These are excellent purchases that ypu won't regret, I love especially the white dress (I am not a Frye boots type of gal for the same reason that makes you.love them, the western vibe, even if I understand the appeal and quality factor)

  14. Great purchases, WMM! I can't get over how great you look these days, not that you didn't when you started blogging but there is something about you now (with or sans Nars) that really makes a difference. You look rested and happy, and it is such a joy to watch. I think the boho look is lovely on you. rock it with confidence, girl!

i would never have thought i had a boho vibe at all - but i think it's because i was buttoned up corporate. though i still love preppy! the key i guess is to fund boho pieces that are not too billowy..
