Style Question Wednesday- Do you Multiply?

Hello All,

Many thanks for your support over the past week.  While I am still going through a lot, a diversion with friends is a good thing!

Sooo, I am back and just in the knick of time,. I think!

Today's question: do you ever buy multiples of items you like?

Last week I was into our local supermarket that sells Joe Fresh.  They have lots of holiday wear out these days.  I really liked the velvet cowl neck sweater.  and it was $25.

See it below:

See the pretty gold? It looks so lovely with my brown tweedy Judith and Charles trousers:

They are very comfy and quite chic, in my opinion.

This is me, giving my daughter "the look".  I loved the gold.

BUT.  There were other colours I liked equally well.  Blue.  Cranberry.  Black.  But what colour to get????

And then it hit me:  THESE TOPS WERE ONLY A FREAKING $25!!!!  Why wouldn't I get the colours I loved???

And so, hanging in my closet right now:

Aren't they pretty?  They are like 3 little jewels sitting in my closet, waiting for Christmas parties or lounging around.  They are calling to my inner girl who loves plush things...

Do you ever do this?  Have you ever bought multiples of the exact same thing?

How has your week been going?

We still have a bit of a row to hoe this week - visitation all day Thursday and Funeral Friday.  and then I will sleep and sleep and sleep!  Perhaps wearing velvet....

  1. Are you kidding?! Don't ask me how many excursion vests I own. If you find something you love and looks good on you and for a really decent price, gotta get multiples or you'll likely be sorry. For me, it's not so much the excursion vest makes me look that good, but it's three season wear for me and I wear them constantly. You look like a million bucks in the velvet top. Vavoom. Beautiful choice.

You've been in my thoughts, and I'm sending over more strength and hugs. Please get lots of rest after all the necessaries are done.

    1. Thanks tiffany rose! And no word of lie - when I bought these I thought of you! I just love a cowl neck and had recently caught J Crew's cowl neck tee in deep peri on a popback (which matches perfectly with the peri cardigan and is waiting for "its" shoes to arrive later this month!!!!) so when I saw these in all their cheap loveliness, I knew they had to be mine!! They actually have a cowl neck black dress version I am going back for and black velvet leggings, which I nabbed to go under something! I am going to have to go back and re-read Janet's blogpost of earlier this week of how to wear leggings!!

Today will be slightly more emotional, as my brother arrives, but we are doing fine. We are doing a family dinner tonight that will include a birthday cake for my poor husband, who will spend his actual 50th birthday in visitation all day for my dad at the funeral home! Poor guy! Thank goodness there is a big party coming for him in a couple of weeks!

  2. Funny I too have gone crazy for gold this week. I don't really do multiples, I don't have enough clothes yet so they have to look different, it's taking me so long to rebuild my wardrobe.

I actually think the time after the funeral is the worse, everything is so quiet then, at least you have an important job to fill some of that time which always seems too silent. Sending hugs your way.

    1. Thanks Tabs! I imagine you wear a cowl neck very well. I aclways find it a flattering shape. YOu are right about after the whirlwind dies down. I am going to be awfully lonesome for him, as he required a lot of my time and mental and physical energy. I am taking a couple of more days off next week - have to go to the bank and begin to monitor the estate, etc. There is a lot of work to dying, as I have found out!

  3. duplicates? absolutely, as long as there's room! not even worth discussing, except I wanted to wish you strength as you start to deal with being an orphan. I hope the wake or equivalent gives you smile material for years to come, my sister and I still wonder why our mom did not jump out of her coffin and deliver a lecture on how there's a time and place for almost everything when a cousin who'd been, well, absent, for years showed up with an album of pictures of her (cousin, not mom's) winning moves in a tango contest, bare leg over some guy's shoulder, etc. She thought the wake would be a good opportunity to show everyone her latest interest...

    1. OMG - too funny! I got a call from a cousin who spent the whole conversation defending (which was odd as I never even asked her about it) why she had not gone to see my dad at the home these last few years because his stone-faced countenance (a sad by-product of parkinsons and nothing to do with his personality) unnerved her and made her think he didn't like her!!! It was a very odd conversation!

  4. Your Dad was lucky to have such a wonderful daughter. Will be thinking of you in this tough time. As we say in Maine, sounds like he had a good run.

Are we not safe in our supermarkets now from the temptation of nice clothes? How fun that this is from your local food shop! Yes, buy what ever colors you like and enjoy, you look great. I have several each merino turtlenecks, perfect T's, Tippis.

    1. Thanks Lane! I KNOW - I do not frequent that store very frequently for that exact reason! Too tempting!

  5. Those were a steal! I buy duplicates but usually only of basics like tees. If I love a pair of jeans, I'll buy a backup pair of the exact ones. I bought multiples of a J. Crew sweater last year because I loved it so much (it had long sleeves, a lace panel in the front, I forget what its name was, came in navy, gray and ivory), but it's recognizable so I feel conspicuous if I wear them too close together. When the other colors get marked way down, what's a girl to do? No regret, though! It's a lucky thing my grocery store doesn't sell clothes, I'd be in trouble.

Hope you are hanging in there this week. Try not to drive, you must be exhausted.

  6. Morning WMM. Anne Shirley would love your jewels of Avalon tops, take you to the White Sands hotel or somewhere similarly swish. Will make a point to trot down to the Queen West Joe tonight and check out the holiday gear. I don't buy multi-coloured multiples, but am like Cate. If I find the perfect basic (jeans, pullovers, underlayer tees, tights etc.) I will by an identical back-ups at same time, or soon as I can afford. Especially things that require store try-ons. My DH and local BFs would also argue that I have bought (and wear) JC striped Breton/ mariniere type tees in every incarnation. Only one (the St. James) actually has a duplicate. But I also own Petit Bateau and Joe versions. Hey, maybe they are just multiplying in drawer on own?
Frivolity aside, glad you are able to take a tiny break with us today. Wishing B.M. a bright spot of official birthday tonight. Glad your brother is joining the family circle, always feels better once everyone is there. And sending strength to all of you for next two days.
(Re. awkward phone call and any other apologies, certain you handled it with grace. Fear, illness, death brings out the guilt in some it seems. No matter.)

    2. GF - many thanks - you are right! and guess which psalm I used at my mum's funeral? Had to go with the "and joy cometh in the morning.." How much of an Anne sap am i? :-)

I do not think there is borth control that will eliminate breeding of stripe shirts. I have tried and they keep coming back!!!

  7. Funny, I almost bought the cowlneck dress in the navy blue but I have too many evening dresses that I never wear so instead I went with the ballet tee to wear under my velvet jacket. Did you see that one? Fits like a glove. I didn't see the cowlneck tee at my store but they are still unpacking boxes. I do buy multiples sometimes but I almost always regret, usually the second one that I get is the one that I wear the less. But it is easy to get excited with the Joe Fresh prices, they are too good to be true.
    Hang in there!

    1. Thanks Ema! Darn - will have to check again this weekend - have been watching for ballet t and it has not shown up there, though ballet dress in black velvet was there. We only have a small section, though it is usually stocked through. At the mall today (ran in quickly to get my husband the latest Call of Duty game that apparently had made a bizillion dollars since yesterday) I saw some beautiful sweaters in the window at American Eagle, one of which will be my casual back up for purple pants if the popcorn doesn't work!

  8. YES to multiples. Those will be comforting and cozy to wear this weekend. Wish I lived near so I could drop off a basket with dinner and some soothing wine.
I haven't been by Joe Fresh in ages, I may head over there this morning to have a look! Thanks for the tip!
Thinking of you during this long week, I hope it goes well for all of you.

  9. I do buy multiples of basics, such as the Gap crewneck tee, and will also buy duplicates of skirts or jeans when I find one that fits me well. Your velvet trio is absolutely lovely and such good colors for you, as well.

Like Dani said, I wish we lived closer so that I could bring by a meal for you. I will be thinking about you though, and hoping that all goes well with all that you will be dealing with this week. (((Big Hugs)))

  10. So sorry about your loss. I'll be thinking of you and your family during this challenging time.

Regarding multiples-I only buy them if they're not unique - for example a great pair of jeans, basic tee and v-neck sweaters or cardigans (I like the merino at BR best and grab them on sale).

Your velvet is pretty and such a bargain.

    3. Oh too funny Ina! 7 is a magic number, so I expect it will look divine on you! I am actually contemplating the hacking jacket in the jade tweed before this 30% off ends.

  12. I try not too because like Ema, I find that i wear the subsequent ones much less. I only get basics, like t-shirts in neutral colors. Except of course for pencil skirts...
Sending you virtual hugs and prayers. Hang in there, it will get better eventually , although it will probably get worse first.

  13. I wish I had words of comfort but sometimes there are no words. I miss my father terribly still, it has been three years. He was a real comedian though, I try to focus on those fun moments.

Multiples are a necessity in my wardrobe. I have more pencil skirts and twinsets than I care to admit but since our dress code was relaxed so that we don't need to be in a suit, that is my most worn work uniform and of course I cannot limit myself to just one or two!

  14. Love this colour on you. Couldn't imagine seeing you ever in taupe as vibrant colours make you shine. Yes I have bought multiples in Hacking jackets and basic t-shirts. Our Superstore is about 25 minutes away so I don't get there enough. Ah maybe it's a good thing.
So happy to see you posting as you've been on my mind.I hope the next couple of days fills you with the wonderful memories that your parents created.
