Random Saturday Musings

Happy Last Day of August!

Lots to talk about this week!  I had a great trip to Saint John yesterday, but that is a post for another day!

1) Mickey Drexler to guest-star on Breaking Bad

I'm sure you saw this news item last week, when our fearless leader had his moment of TV fame.

Oh this got me to thinking and you know that me thinking is a scary thing.. I started to think of other TV shows where Mickey could guest star and have my own list:

Downton Abbey

Mickey is the Merchant Prince, come to prey upon the recently widowed Lady Mary, hoping to gain access to the family fortune and launch his new Downton Drexler Fashion House, replete with black leather pants and crushed velvet caps.  Say no Lady Mary, say no!

 How I Met Your Mother

Finally, in the season's final year, we meet who Ted Mosby marries.  Only the thing is, it's the 21st century and "mother" is what the kids have affectionately chosen to call their second dad, Mickey...

Game of Thrones

Daenyrus needs one last ally if she is to take the iron throne.  As she crosses the channel towards Kings Landing, she comes across another ship, carrying the Merchant Prince, who offers her a nice sequin jacket to cover her up if he can take 10% of looting profits  when they get there.  Daenyrys, wooed by cheap fashion in bright colours, agrees...

Oh there are more possibilities, but Mickey has to get back to work, since, as you recall, he has promised to take the brand back to its roots this fall, which I can see already..

2) Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke

I am not going to add much more to the conversation except to say there were 2 people on that stage and one of them was a grown-ass man.  How far we have come if we continue to only point out what the woman did..

3) Freshmen (Frosh) Week

My son starts Frosh week today.  It seems like only yesterday that I was at my Frosh Week and it has proven surprising to me to realize that was 32 years ago!!!!  Some of you who read this blog aren't 32.  I think I need to lay down...

4) Kate does her first post-birth public appearance

You know I love Kate.  She is perfection in my eyes.

Duke-and-duchess-of-cambridge

She told one of the folks that she was anxious to get walking again and "get back in shape".  I am going to send her a note.  It has been 18 years since I had my last child and I still don't look like that.  Do you think she will take me walking with her, cause the walking with Barry doesn't seem to be hacking it....

and finally...

5) this man is about to go back on the market... just sayin'...

He has a nice house in Bermuda....

Hope you have a great day and enjoyed this particularly frothy version of Random Saturday Musings... Stay Safe out there!

  1. Love your frothy musings. We are a HIMYM, Downton household, so I liked your choices- although Mickey does bear a tonsorial resemblance to Lily''s dad....You are correct about MC and RT.
Back to school is a bittersweet time for parents, isn't it. Your son must be so excited!
I believe the trick is to walk from our homes to Buckingham Palace. Oh, and to have a chef make us 1000 calories a day, and make them perfect.
As to MD, I am curious as to what fraction of his present age his next wife will be.

  2. MASH UP WMM, success, you made me splutter in my coffee from laughter, especially since like Knit Yarns I am a HIMYM and Downton fan.

Best wishes to DS, remind him the General is watching ;-) My boss' daughter heads of to Queens tomorrow, so I am feeling a bit old as well.

Thank you for pointing out the Blurred Lines of Miley/ Robin. Ban twerking is all I can say (I know Elvis hips, I am probably showing my age.)

Look forward to St. John shop update. And happy unofficial last weekend of summer - make it count...

    1. I love September, but it is always bittersweet!

I think this weekend calls for a St. Germain cocktail!

  3. Hi Wendy, good luck to your son for the start of university. We are in full packing mode here - my older son is going into his second year and he'll be moving into his first apartment in Ottawa tomorrow.

Oh dear, I can't bear to listen to Miley Cyrus speak much less sing. But you're right, it's that whole Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake thing all over again.

  4. I just watched the Breaking Bad episode the other night. That and Dexter have me wondering how it's all going to end. Did not see VMAs. however, while in Asheville
I did see a rather large woman topless then saw a rather large man topless. I don't care what sex you are if you are going to show your tits let them be nice. Otherwise keep the shirt on. Never understood the double standard on men and women.

    1. Good luck to your boy! He's going to have a great time (and hopefully still attend all his classes).

  5. I think part of the kerfluffle over Miley is that she is stooping so low, so fast and she should not have to do that. Robin Thicke is new and Blurred Lines is shocking for some, so no shock over his behavior. You have a good point though, all too often men get a pass.

I thought Liberace was dead. I don't get this one.

    1. I think that's Michael Douglas (but don't know that movie). Sounds like he and Catherine Zeta Jones have split up. Too bad - I thought they made a very glamorous couple.

    2. Yup - sorry - it was Michael Douglas as Liberace in the recent HBO biopic - he and CZ-J have indeed broken up!

    3. I thought they were taking a 'break' from their marriage? Is that CODE for splitting up?

      Delete
    4. Well, if Barry said he was taking a "break" I think I would think he was leaving me for Michael douglas!

    5. Oh, I see. Zero interest in celebrities over here. I couldn't be bothered to follow along.

  6. On the floor laughing re M Drex alternate roles. Maybe you could be his agent? Second career?? Well, maybe not.

I don't know Blurred Lines-- is it about sneezing over one's cocaine?

First year without any back to school for us. I loved first day of school and also took a photo in front of the fireplace, new lunch boxes and all. Sigh--goes quickly, as everyone says. I hope he has a good start.

  7. Hahahaha! What a laugh Wenders thanks so much! You kill me. Frosh week here too and Middle Rascal has activities every day beginning this afternoon, as you know she's an introvert but she's participating which I'm very happy about. I know your guy isn't a shy one and I bet he'll have fun and meet everybody!

  8. WMM, please continue to talk some sense into the Kate bashers! Not to draw battle lines, but I am convinced many of those criticizing her hair, or her mother's taking care of the baby while she attends an event, bathed and beautiful five weeks after giving birth!!!!, have never had children. Royal by marriage or not, the lady deserves some common human decency! I am really shocked by some of the comments I've read about this first public appearance. God help us all should photos have circulated of me five weeks postpartum . . . !!!!

    1. Thanks Anon - I adore Kate, and I am becomingly increasingly disturbed by the pressure that the media puts on women to get their bodies back into shape after birth! I may have to devote a post to that this week. I thought she looked fantastic and happy and what a joy it is to have your mother help you so you can get out of the house for 2 hours! I remember that feeling of not wanting to leave the baby and think I would go mad if I didn't get out for a little bit! Plus, I do think she wanted to honour the people of Wales for how nicely they treated her and Will whilst they were there! Yay Kate and Boo to the press! I hadn't seen the negative coverage but I am not surprised in the least!
