Niagara Falls and Dani

We are now on day 6 of the vacation.  I must say, we have had a wonderful time thus far!

Yesterday, we arrived in another city and had a lovely visit with Dani and her family and friends, including the extravagantly wonderful B Lovely of the blog Do you Mind.  And yes, I told her to blog more....And Dani - you tell her she has to follow my blog now...

Much good food was eaten and bottles of wine drunk.  Barry and I left with a crush on Dani, her gorgeous children, and the debonair Mr. BP.  The funny thing was that two strangers thought that Barry and Mr. BP were brothers!

We forgot pictures last night... Early this morning we did take a picture, but I must tell you that we were both, well, hungover... seriously hungover... But look - the Dani shed in the background!

What I can say:  I have seen the closets.  They are gorgeous.  I touched some Brora coats!  There is a rumour that I may have put my feet in a pair of chie miharas for sizing, height of heel, etc.

Thank you Dani!  We love you and your gorgeous house and you are even more beautiful in real life than your pictures and the best kind of fun!

We left Dani Land and headed to the exact opposite kind of land: Niagara Falls!

If Dani's yard was pristine and calming, well, Niagara Falls, not so much...

We did the Chevy Chase National Lampoon Vacation thing.  In other words: we parked, walked down, took some selfies and then had strangers take our picture and then headed on the road again!

The American Falls.

which falls are these wendy?

Why Barry, these are the horseshoe falls, aka the canadian falls...

All mist - it was 95 degrees there.

people probably mistook us for movie stars...

Goodbye Niagara Falls, you crazy mixture of Times Square, Las Vegas and some amazing water...

Tomorrow - finding Norman Rockwell!!!

And stay cool people - at one point on our drive today is was 36 degrees celcius (or 97F).  I was hallucinating that I was on Lake Como with George...

  1. I tnink it's great you and Dani got to play. I'll be honest, was quite disappointed with Niagara Falls. I know they control the water but I was still expecting "more". Did think the Canadian side was classier than the trashy American side.

    1. B&b, sure you aren't confused? The canadian side had every tacky venture going, though I think our falls are a bit more all that. I have seen them before in winter when tourist stuff is closed and did find them more wonderful then, I have to admit!

    2. Could be...memory isn't always what it should be. I just remember driving through crap to get to hotel(Hilton) and walking to falls, touristy yes but not as tacky as what we drove through. This was about 5 years ago in the summer. We tacked this on during our trip to Boston, which I was not disappointed in. Time to get the day started...happy trails.

    3. The Canadian side is a zoo, and the American side is very "dead city that used to have industry and now has outlet malls and some hotels"

  2. I love all the pictures! You and Dani look great. Niagara Falls is something else, isn't it? You and Barry look like you have a lot of fun together.

I am glad you are having a good trip.

36? That is brutal. I'm on my way to Ontario tomorrow! My sister texted me and told me that if this weather keeps up, all I should bring are the baggiest clothes that I have, plus a swimwuit. :)

    1. p.s. when you quote temperatures in F, do you do the conversion from C or do you just "know."?

    2. i can do the conversion in my head pretty well now. It has been brutal - temp wise - on the this trip. Today, mass is supposed to hit 34-36. we are doing our outdoor things this am and then a couple of air conditioned museums in the afternoon - no option but that! it is oppressive and I think of the poor folks who do not have a/c...

    3. Ah, good plan to escape to the museums. Yes, it is horrifying to think about how many elderly people die when there are heat waves :(

On a lighter note, you look great in your ray bans!

    4. Hey Abby, happy and safe landings. It's a boiler, but I will take it over winter wind-whip off Lake Ontario in Feb. any day. (Not minimizing risk and tragedy of old and young.)

    5. Thanks GF! Yeah, not much mild weather to be had there, eh?

  3. It's great to see you with Dani! You both look very fresh despite the hangovers... I would never have known!
Also great to follow your journey. You and Barry are such a cool couple!

  4. Wendy, you and Barry are the new stars around here, everyone misses you! Berna phoned me last night to talk about how wonderful you are too! Thanks so much for visiting us.
Feeling better this morning, errr, 24 hours later, how about you? St.Germain cocktails, sparkling wine followed by multiple glasses of wine is surely the drinking of hangover champions, yes?
Can't wait to read about finding Norman Rockwell, travel safely you two.

  5. well, this is turning into a Royal Progress. I'm always curious about what people are like in real life, how cool to meet Dani and the ineffable Mr BP!

My big disappointment with the Falls - back in the Bronze Age - was that the Canadian side was not patrolled by Mounties. As I said, the Bronze Age.

  6. Whoa, girls, too much fun here. Lovely photo of you both!

The Berkshires can be very hot, unfortunately. Lenox is a nice town, too, and has a good independent bookstore. Relief by Sunday after BIG storms Friday and Saturday.

  7. You ladies look gorgeous! I'm loving the outfits and fresh, well rested faces, who knew hangovers are the best therapy? We just got to Boston yesterday, and the heat is simply unbearable. It hit 98 where we are! When I lived here, I used to complain about the weather all the time, this should teach me! ;)
You both look like you are having a grand time, and Barry the marvel looks like the king of the road!

  9. I'm catching up with your posts and it's nice to be greeted by your lovely faces and smiles. I have mixed feelings about the internet but the amazing friendships that can be made is one worthy outcome. I know what you mean about a zoo. We did a side trip of Tangier on our trip and it was madness. The vendors could be so aggressive.

On another note, I was shocked to learn that George and Stacy were no longer together. I know I really shouldn't be surprised, but I guess he is waiting for a decent time to send feelers to you, no?

  13. OVER THE FALLS Glad for Barry on seeing his rightful home, but really delighted you and the DBP are now, "at long last" in-person friends. Can't wait for Edith commentary and yes, keep drinking water.

  14. Hi Wendy, your trip just keeps getting better and better! You and Dani look gorgeous and so happy to be together in person.

Niagara Falls - yes, the town is tacky, but the falls themselves are amazing. We went a few times when we lived in Oakville, once in the wintertime too.

Looking forward to the next episode of On the Road with Wendy and Barry!

  15. Well this road trip just gets better . We use to live in Niagara -on -the-Lake and I know the falls.Always thought the American side 's gardens beat ours.
The picture of the both of you is gorgeous. Don't get me started on Dani's Brora. Forget George ...Barry's the best driver around !
