All I Want For Christmas is a New Pink Dress, a New Pink Dress, a New Pink Dress....

Happy Friday!

I of course wrote this post two days ago, since today is my dad's funeral, but these posts have been very nice for me to do and have been a welcome break from crafting the eulogy.  Depending on how the latter is received I may post it and a couple of pics of my dad tomorrow or Sunday.

But today is for more frippery than formality.  And since it is Miller time Friday at Dani's and I KNOW I will be having a drink for sure today, I think my drink du jour will be yellow tail shiraz.  Yes, I know - yellow tail is not a fine wine, but it has happy memories for me as my dad discovered it one winter we took him to the Gulf of Mexico, and he drank gobs of it while sitting on the balcony of our condo watching dolphins going by!  Super fruity and guaranteed to turn my nose red from the sulphites, but happy nonetheless!

But as always, I digress....

The current Collection Lookbook online seemed to really pique my interest this fall.  As you know, I have already pre-ordered the peri flats to try and have drooled over other items, including that tweedy dress.  I was particularly taken with the pink crepe dress (sorry - I can't take a screenshot of it as it appears on the website.  It appears that is a technical skill which I currently lack, despite reading the technical directions many times online.  I blame it on my genes, which have predisposed me to reading, writing and drinking red wine, skills which will only be really useful if I need to play the role of Fran Lebowitz on Broadway, which by the way, could happen) because it was, well, pink.

So I called J Crew yesterday and asked for the item number, which is 29216.  She told me that the dress won't be released until December, but this morning it is online for ordering:

Another aside - I had blue cat eyed glasses from 1968 to 1975.  I did not realize I was a trendsetter!  I swear to God that the Sartorialist will have a post today "So you're thinking about blue glasses" or "So you want a pink dress"!!!

I was unsure how I liked the shirt tail like hem, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.

The description:

The season's most brilliant hue meets meticulously tailored minimalism in this new wardrobe essential. Our design team chose sleek crepe for its amazing ability to absorb color, engineering a have-to-have piece with a seamless structure and a clean drape.
  • Triacetate/poly.
  • Long sleeves.
  • Back zip.
  • Straight skirt.
  • Falls above knee.
  • Lined.
  • Dry clean.
  • Import.

While it falls above the knee, it is clear that it just falls above the knee and for a shorty like me, might need to be hemmed so that it does fall above the knee.

The one downside is that this is an acetate/poly blend.  I am, however, willing to overlook this because I think I will look like a million bucks in this pink dress!  I am waiting for a regular price sale (which I assume will be around the American Thanksgiving) and then I will pounce.  I really like the shoes, but I am "shoed out" and don't really have a need for sparkly bow shoes this holiday season!  At least the dress I can "dress down" with a blazer or cardi and wear to work.
Happy Friday and thanks again for your support this week - you are now part of the "family" to me!  Stay safe out there!

UPDATE!!!!
Tabs directed me to the net-a-porter UK site which describes this dress as the "crepe mini dress"!!  Ack!

It looks considerably short on the net-a-porter site than the JCrew one 0 in fact on most of the net-a-porter pictures, it looks mid-thigh!

J.Crew  outfit

I will be checking with my VPS as well, as mid-thigh is not for me!  Crossing my fingers that the british version is shorter for those mod hotties over there and that the colonies have a longer version, but not holding hope!!  Darn - will be looking elsewhere for my pink dress if that is the case!

  1. I have been stalking this dress since it was in the Collection Look Book. It is not a great cut for me, but it is so pretty! The catalog shows this dress styled over skinny jeans and it looks a lot shorter than the web site photo. I have been been playing phone tag with my VPS to figure out which image is most accurate. I hope it works for you!

    1. Hi Julie! I have not received my catalogue yet so did not know how they were doing it! I hope it is not too short, although at 5'2", I may be in luck where others have to either pass or wear with trousers. I definitely can NOT wear the dress over pants look; i am too short and too busty and look remarably like a beet farmers wife! Let me know what your VPS says!

    2. WMM LOL a beet farmer's wife! You are hilarious!

    3. Beet farmer's better half? Enrollment in Canadian ag. colleges shoots up overnight.

    4. HA! Funny to you, but when I go all pink in the blistery wind and lope along, I resemble that remark!

  2. Did you see Jenna Lyons wear your print capris on the JC blog(770 Behind the Line)?
It looks fab on her with the matching top and a navy blazer!

    1. HI Ina - I didn't - will have to go peek now. I like how you are calling them "my" print capris, heehee! I think they should start using our names for their items instead of famous people, like "The Ina tippi" or "the wendy crazy pant"!!

  3. Oh that dress is on Net a Porter, better pics there, I'm not sure about that hemline either.

I will raise a glass to your dear Dad tonight, my thoughts are with you today.

    1. Thanks Tabs! I will hie me over to net-a-porter and take a look.

Thanks for the toast to my dad. Yesterday went very well, today will likely be harder, but all things can be endured I guess, especially if you are laughing and there are drinks and good food on the other end!

    2. Tabs - just did an update - the net-a-porter site's dress looks to be at least 4 inches shorter! Yikes!

  4. I had to read that twice, that you think you will have to hem a dress from J. Crew, because you think it will be too long...what?! :-) I will be interested to hear how the length turns out. The hemline is cute but looks hard to modify. The color is gorgeous.

    1. Hi Cate! I actually have had to do so a couple of times - I have to go over to net-a-porter - the rumour is that it is shorter in real life than on the site. I hate it when they do that!

  5. I don't have a good feeling about this dress, sorry, I just don't. I think that to pull off the mullet hem, one has to be straight as a board, front and back, and that leaves must of us out. Including me.

    1. Heehee! Well once I saw how short it was in the UK, it pretty much left me out.. I was hoping it was long, like on the model in the j crew site and I could make it a straighter hem. If I did that now, I would be making it come right beneath my bottom!

  6. I think the color of that dress is dreamy. It would be absolutely perfect on you and even though the length is a complete mystery I think you should try it!
I have to go see Jenna wearing your pants! With a navy blazer, that sounds so pretty.
I hope it all goes well for you and your family today. I'll hop out to pick up your shiraz for Miller Time, you are going to be very tired and you get whatever you'd like!
    xo!

  7. PINK LADY Hi WMM, I adore the utterly Annish and "tomo" idea of a pink dress on you for the festive season! And I never mean to rain on anyone's style parade, particularly not today. But while I was clapping hands at yesterday's pants, I am with WFF on this one today. Do you really want a poly short mullet as your chic Christmas dress? And at a pretty collection penny regardless? Or are you just drawn to the colour and the idea? Now keeping my peelies open for a similar hue and simple style at other retailers, just in case the frosting drips and runs.
Query over. Ignore me completely if it's true love. And keeping faith with you today...

  8. I think the color of the pink as shown online would be lovely on you, but it would probably be completely different and much brighter IRL. I did find out from CS that the length is 34 inches for a size 6, so the Net-a-Porter image is definitely showing the length closer to what it actually is.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and hoping that all goes well today.

    1. Thanks FFM - oh gosh - 34 inches - yikes!! Well that just saves me some money for the right pink dress of the future!!!

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers!

  9. HI GF - was really the colour and thinking it looked long enough to lop off mullet hem. That appears to be a no-go, unless, after my turn as Fran Leibowitzz on Broadway I move over to a XXX theatre... sigh... So yes, if you see something tasteful and similar let me know!!!

And the thanks is all mine - has been a great diversion to get back to blogging and I have found this to be a safe place to let some out. Plus, I just love it (and I mean that truly!) that you all tell me when you don't like something and try to steer me on!

  10. Good morning there, just a quick word to say hope all goes well today, I'm sure your eulogy will be wonderful and you will be able to relax afterwards.

  11. You are a great writer and I am sure your eulogy will be very well received! Hope you won't feel crusshed today after the funeral. Big hugs!

I was thinking, would the pleated one from the summer be an alternative? It is very cheap right now and the color is surely not neon-y.

I am making returns today, if my store has this dress I will try it for you since you are my heigth. Take it as my way of bringing a warm meal to you in these difficult times ;-).

  13. WMM, Julie and I must be thinking alike. Have you thought about something like the Linda wrap sweater dress in pink from DVF? It is available from Saks; I've had good experiences with them and shipping to Canada, plus they usually do a Thanksgiving offer. Looks shorter on model, but she's 5'10" (You could have an easy-as-a-robe dress to go with your "jammie" pants.)

    2. Thank GF! I really like this! I may watch for this on black friday sales - how does DVF fit in comparison with JC sizes? In things like Theory or Pink Tartan I am an 8, so assuming a M? The only issue is the chest area - would require a lovely cami - not a deal breaker, since I needed one for my new pink tartan dress, but wondering..

  15. It's such a pretty color but it stopped me at Triacetate/poly. I also have doubts about how the lining is done with the curved hemline. For some reason, I'm all of a sudden seeing you in a white shirt with crazy pants and a cozy cashmere wrap in this lovely pink.

A squeeze of the hand and another big hug for making it through today ...

    1. Oh Tiffany Rose!!!!!!!!! I Love that idea!!! Oh oh oh!

Last night, after the funeral I came back and changed into my dahlia lolli pants, my black cashmere turtleneck and paired them with the new ballet flats in the tomo pink that looked smashing with the pants. I am going to do some searching for a wrap in that colour - that may satisfy!

    2. Talbots has a lovely rosy pink cashmere wrap on sale so I am thinking that and will look around today! There are two JCrew boxes upstairs. Most are Christmas gifts but a few things were added for me! I have so much to try on for you all!

You will be loathing me for a couple of days!!!
