When you feel like a Golden Girl, you know it is miller time...

Oh dear.....

Am i the only one out there that tries to make outfits and somedays feels like they are the 5th Golden Girl???

I am not lying.  This morning you could have tucked me in this photo and I would have been the 5th golden girl.  I did not go out the door as the 5th golden girl, but I might have...

I started out in this outfit, but wearing my new turquoise sweater underneath.  It was horrifying... Once I put on trusty white button down, things came together...

For some odd reason, I look like my buttons are buttoned all the way to the top.  They are not.  I think these charcoal trousers are about to be given away...But I reserve the right to reconsider tomorrow.

Anyhow, the sweater under this peacock jacket made me feel like Blanche from Golden Girls.  I was horrified.

Which got me to thinking: I need a uniform.  I am going to be thinking about that this weekend, amongst everything else, as I do get tired of trying to figure out how to make myself look loverly!  Thankfully, I did catch my inner golden girl before she got out.  I have to keep reminding myself: At any moment George could call.  MUST-BE-READY!

But it gets worse....

Did I mention that i only had 4 hours of sleep last night?  It was a bit of a Jonah Day for me.

When I got home, the hacking jacket was waiting for me in the black/cream colour.

I loved this jacket and I imagined myself looking like Gwyneth from the Goop editorial:

"hmm," I thought.  I have those trousers.  I like those trousers...

Remember?    Those were happier days, two weeks ago, when I was not having a Jonah Day..

So, I got the jacket and I put it on right away:

Yes, my love for you is so great that you get to see them model them with grey heather saturday pants from J crew and my uggs (Tabs, dearheart, this one is for you!)  I liked this jacket.  I was not unhappy, I could see it modeled with jeans or my black or green riding trousers/minnies.

To get a better sense of the colour i am even letting you come into the bathroom. Mind you don't knock your knees on the tub on the way by...

But then I tried them on with the trousers.... My daughter was going to take a picture.  But then she said the immortal phrase:

"I love you in those pants.  I love you in the jacket.  But together, you look like the kind of old lady who comes out with a curly perm and sensible shoes for remembrance day.

Took them off immediately,  Still not sure I will keep the blazer, but now have completely battered ego, with my brush with golden girl-dome and as a lady who collects change for the Sally Anne (noble as that would be...) still stinging my fragile sense of self.

So, I admit it - I am no Gwynie.  Of course, she is no me.  But that seems like cold comfort.

On second thought, I think I may keep the jacket and go for this look instead, which is quite in line with the black mood of today:

Ah, who am I kidding - I would love to look like this... Would be good for fox-hunting...And a jaunty cap is divine.  And doesn;t he look like the kind of fellow who would show a girl a good time?

In honour of my no-good-very-bad-day-of-clothes-styling, I would like a little something stronger at today's virtual miller time. Vodka Martini, please, Dani.  Keep them coming...  Bourbon, Tabs?  The monkey has lots of money and he can pay for us all..

And so happy friday and stay safe out there y'all.  and for you dear folks who have no power and are struggling after Sandy, hang in there.  Your plight this week makes my silly prattling about my clothes woes seem silly indeed and know that you are all in my prayers!

  1. I think as a full suit it's hideous even on Gwynnie.
But as individual pieces they are great. You look lovely in the jacket, mine is never off my back.

    1. Thannks Tabs. FOr some reason I did actually really like the look on her - maybe it was lighting, wine, too much crewlade, i don't know what! You said exactly what my daughter said. So in this case, I was most certainly disabused of my fantasy!

I like the way Gwyneth looks in the suit styled like she has. Maybe if you try it on with a blouse similar to hers you would like it. I think the plaid shirt adds a fresh look to the outfit.. As for the monkey, if he's buying , I'm all in! I think he could be entertaining dancing on the bar after a few! Cheers!!

    1. Hi Mini! I think I will try it tomorrow with my indigo floral button down from 2011 and pumps and see if it is salvageable if it is worn with things which are unexpected - I may have simply paired it too poorly! and I was having a no-good-very-bad day!

  3. Is it wrong if I have the same Gwynie fantasy? I love the trousers and am debating the jacket ...

You do look lovely in the pieces separately.

    1. Thanks Tiffany Rose - I debated the jacket to be in honest, because I am short, but the petite accomodates that. I am not worried, if, as hoped, I go down a size as I think it would be fine slightly baggy - more of a boyfriend look, I think.

As for looking lovely - you are REALLY kind - I was feeling wretched last night and was all kind of pink looking for some reason! I do debate at times cutting out my face as others, like yourself do, but I am pretty sure my face is required given my personality! Maybe I am wrong about that! Plus, I don't "advertise" on the web, so don't get a ton of traffic in my wee corner of the world. My followers grow slowly and I kind of like that! That sounds very provincial of me, doesn't it??

STILL debating the polka dot sequin top! I am going to wait on crazy pants and then decide, as crazy pants may require a purchase or two themselves! That is the problem with crazy pants - they are like decorating your room - you realize you need ONE more thing... :-)

    2. It's so true what they say we're most critical of ourselves. I didn't notice pink or anything close to wretched. Everytime I see you all I notice is that joyful smile that makes me smile.

I too am OK with not a ton of traffic. It's a cozy crowd we have.

I'm keeping the black polka dot and the champagne is going back. As for crazy pants, heavy sigh, I'm afraid I've combined that with love of sequins. Oy, more to come ...

  4. That jacket looks great on you! And the pants do too. So you don't have to wear them together until you find a combination you like, or ever, but they are great (and practical) as individual pieces. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater! :-)

    Signed, another Uggs girl!

    2. I've been an uggs girl for a long, long time, maybe 20 years, and had no idea they were in or out of fashion. Just saw that sales are down so prices will drop. Could be good news for us who keep them as staples.

  5. Oh My I'm howling with laughter here! Where oh where did you find that monkey picture! I too love his outfit, maybe you've found your blog mascot!
I agree with all, the pieces are great and neutral on their own. Definitely could be key base parts of your uniform. Yes we must talk further on this, we have to keep you from having those golden-girl mornings!
I once had a pair of UGGS and I wore them until they fell off of my feet in shreds, I loved them. They are perfect for these cold days.
Getting on to those vodka martinis now, olives or lemon?
    xo!

    1. Dani, know you've claimed a past with overalls, only trying to visualize the Chie and Manolo gal of late in cosy but bedraggled Uggs :-0 Personal fashion is an evolution! *smile* (And if you ever admit to Crocs - at least the original Hobbit ones - know I will have a conniption.

    2. Dani - uggs are great! We must see pictures!!! You must have loved my label this am then!!! I would like lemon please!!! I plan on bringing pretzels and chocolate!

    3. GF I would never wear Crocs! I wore my UGGS around the house when my kids were small, I wouldn't have had time to do up real shoes in those days.

  6. BOTTOMS UP! Dear WMM, it was a rotten outfit day. Let it go, today, this weekend and the rest of your closet and fashion future are filled with other, easier, happier possibilities. And dontcha fret, in my book far better every day heroine with style and sass than cliched golden girl. (Although between you and I Betty White re-visited now is pretty cool, even in double-white, bedazzled denim, ack.) The proportions might not work as a "suit", but it could just be the underlayer and shoes. Both pieces are very wearable. And again, you will soon find a weekday getting dressed formula that works for you. In the meantime, I'll pull the champers out of the fridge in anticipation. (Also prepped to doll out alka seltzer and other morning after cures if the cocktail posse gets into both the bourbon and the marts.)

    2. And a snippet of drinking song for ya: "The face found on the bar room floor, I'd rather be than dull once more. So drink, and never think, about tomorrow ('s outfit) tonight!"

  11. For some reason I hear lots of people are not getting enough sleep these days.... Hope you catch up this weekend, with the clock changing and all.

Frankly, I'm not liking this colour of the jacket much. I would prefer it darker, as you know.

    1. Hey Rose! The good thing is that the clocks go back tonight - I should be good! :-)

I hear you on the colour. I do find it fills a gap in my wardrobe (which is about to get smaller, I feel the need for a purge!) especially for weekend wear. I think the jade would have been awesome, but as you know I was trying to look like Gwynnie and failing miserably! I may get the jade on a promo in the future now that I know it fits! Have a great weekend - I always love your advice!
