J Crew Rollout, This Miller time needs rum, and My Dad

Hi All,

I may be a bit sporadic for the next few days.  My beloved dad, who is 81 and lives in a nursing home near where we live, has taken a turn and we think he may be taking the journey to be reunited with my mum.  We'll see how today goes.  I know you will be wishing me well and I appreciate that!

I still hope to get a picture of the sillk tie capris up this weekend in the purple.   Suffice to say - if you are thinking about them, grab them on the 25% off!  They are buttery soft and lovely!  I even ordered the matching flats to go with them (not the heels, I am going to pair them with either my silver or black pumps, both of which look smashing with them!)  While I will do a full review of these on the weekend - I would say their matches are pale pink, silver, lilac, navy and black.  Sure, a white blouse looks good as well, but these are not pants for fuschia or other bright colours.  On the web site photo in the collection area they almost seemed to have a blue tinge - they do not!

Collection café capri in purple tie silk

Which is a nice segue into this morning's rollout!  J Crew retained the 25% off for one more day, which is kind of them, as I actually like a lot and plan to do some Christmas shopping for my family before I head back to see my dad in a couple of hours!

I have actually seen a few things I liked and a few things that scared me this am!

The likes:

Handknit popcorn sweater
check it out here
They actually show this paired with the purple pants and I may order it this morning.  Trying to decide if I want it slightly slouchy.  I think I will go with my regular Medium and see.  The ivory is lovely as well and I am a sucker for a popcorn knit.  Scottish roots?

Lambswool diamond sweater
Retro Cool here
The lambswool diamond sweater has something really retro cool about it, IMO.  It makes me think of apres ski parties and sweaters my mum had in the 60s.  It is only $107 CDN, so is pretty reasonable with the sale!

The Bling-Button Cardigan in Deep Violet:

Bling-button cardigan
Violet here
I have this sweater in red and silvery grey from last season and really liked - for the price, is a fun sweater!

The velvet tee in Admiral Blue:

Velvet tee
get yours here
This is pretty, but when I look at it in the shopping cart, it looks VERY short and boxy, which is too bad!

How about the Chiffon top in sail pink?  If I hadn't just gotten the lilac bow top on sale, I would have scooped this up!  It also comes in fuchsia and navy.

Chiffon top
see it here
I also kind of like the velvet dot ponte top:

Velvet-dot ponte top
Get yours here
Or the Three-quarter sleeve beaded top?

Three-quarter sleeved beaded top
Tiffany Rose, pick it up here!
For those with very deep pockets, or whose partners have been naughty indeed this year and want to make it up to you, I give you two dresses which I think are divine.  First up: The Collection Printed Floral Shantung in smoke:

Get your rightful desserts right here
At $600 CDN, he has been naughty indeed!  But you are worth it, are you not???  If I did not already have a lovely dress for the Mr.'s 50th fete, this would be in my cart and checked out already.  Dani - I am pretty sure this it calling to you or Ema...

Likewise, if he has been that bad, or you have been THAT good, really, don't you deserve the collection tweed coat dress?  I do!

Collection tweed coat dress
Gulp, for $694 CDN buy it here
For pure whimsy and for my 20 year old daughter who can get away with this, how about the sequin rhino sweatshirt?  He is divine.  I think Nigel would like a sequin rhino to ride....

Sequin rhino sweatshirt
Get your rhino here.  Doesn't that sound like something Hemingway would have said?

The No. 2 pencil skirt in dot brocade in navy would be a lovely treat for you!  When this one goes on sale, I expect to see it in my closet!  Rynetta - I am thinking of you and am hoping for a review soon!

No. 2 pencil skirt in dot brocade
Get your dots on here
I am not sure if I love these capris or not, but I am inexplicably drawn to them.  It could be that they are mushroom coloured and I love mushrooms:

Collection cropped velvet pant
Hmmm, Mushroom,,,, here

I actually have a pair of Talbots pumps that are remarkably like these new one from JC and I could see these as being so comfy around the house entertaining or just lounging..

And two things I am going to ask for from himself (actually my VPS is going to keep a list of 5 or 6 things I would like to have and then he can just call her and I will get a surprise as opposed to just buying my own gift!)

Pavé hearts pendant necklace
hearts for you here
I think the pave hearts necklace is just sweet!  and I think I would need the matching bracelet:

Multicolor pavé link bracelet
How cute would this look on me?  I agree!

Okay. things that kind of scared me:

Collection Janey printed flats
Get your plaid on here
I like the tartan.  But I don't like it with a gold heel.  I think if this was a ballet, it would be fun.   But not for me otherwise...

And please check out the fancy pants sectionhere (#7), where Gayle had paired the following three items:

Merino turtleneck sweater + Collection windowpane sequin shift+Collection café capri in windowpane

Really Gayle?  REALLY?  If I was going to be appearing in a Bollywood movie (which BTW I would love to do!) this would be my outfit of choice.  Can you imagine that shift over the pants? I think sometimes she does this to be controversial and if so, she certainly gets my buzz!

What I expected to see and did not: red glitter flats.  Back to ebay for me.  I am not going to try and justify why I want them.  You know why!  I also liked the plaid capris, but the factory version are a much more reasonable price for how much you will wear them each year!

There you have it!  My picks and now I am off to order gifts for husband and daughter!

As for Miller time, Dani, I will be tired when I get there, but I plan to drink white rum and water tonight, the drink of choice of my dear dad.  Have a great day all and stay safe out there!

And for all of you with vets in your family or in your family tree or just in thanks, I leave a little token of my remembrance - We thank you!

  2. Well my picks were completely different from yours! I was a bit disappointed in the dresses especially, that first one is stunning if it came in any other colour way I'd love it.

My great want? The Sperry boots in grey/camel - sheepskin lined - gasp! All ten toes are looking up at me and begging "please mum, please keep us warm and dry this winter"

Does anyone know about sizing? In shoes I'm a 7.5, would an 8 be better?
Oh Bean boots but sheepskin lined and in grey and camel, I'm in clod hopping heaven.

And don't hesitate to email me if you need a shoulder, will be hoping for the very best.

    1. Thanks Tabs! As an FYI - Uggs makes boots just like the sperrys which I own and which are TOO DIE FOR! Oh and their mittens! I think I will do an ode to their mittens!

    2. Tabs, I bought Sperrys a couple of years ago and went with the full size (I'm a 6.5/7). I would consider them TTS. But I also like to wear thick socks and have toe wiggle room in my "big boots".
There's a place two blocks from me that sells the full line. If I can pop in this morning I'll try one of the fleece pairs and report if lining makes a difference.

    3. Get Fresh - only if it's not a hassle for you. I like socks and wiggle room too.

    4. Just sent an email to your B&P addy with the deets. JC only whole sizes I see, definitely the 8s, not 7s and you may even want a 9.

  3. Oh I also LOVE the tartan trousers but I'd be mocked senseless here if I went out in them , still if they are ever cheap and on sale I'd buy them for in- house wear at Christmas as they make me happy!

    1. did you see the factory versions? I think those are what I am going for! Funny - here they are all "scottish cool"!

  4. Oh factory doesn't ship here what a bummer.

Oh and that stunning dress above, did you see the back? It looks as if someone left the iron on it too long, it's so ugly on such a classic pretty dress.

Uggs here are twice the price than in the US!

    1. Tabs - if you want the factory ones let me know - am happy to order them for you and send them over!

Oh - I didn't see the back. No good for me in dead of winter and buggers the bra issue potnentially!

Wonder why Uggs are so expensive there? Makes no sense! They are coming from Oz!

    2. They ruined the back of that dress! Why do they do that? That cut-out was on the back of two of the dresses last year too, SO 80's! In the worst way!

    3. Tom must like that section of a woman's back...

  5. THOUGHTS & PRAYERS Oh, WMM, big lump in my throat. But will keep the faith and raise a rum tonight. (It's my dear Dad's tipple too, although he's an Appleton's light man.) I think this is a hard weekend for you anyway after your mum? And maybe in his heart he feels this time acutely and pines too.
Please keep us posted when you can. And, while I know you already have many near and dear at home, we'll rally round in email as well.
As for the latest Crewery, BR has 50/35% Off F&F for new merch and Sak's online has a big sale too, so I must choose wisely where to check-out. But, of course, I look forward to your purple pants in their full glory.
Take it easy on your way back and forth to pater! I hope tail end of US storm didn't hit you too hard.

    1. Thanks GF! AM heading back over in a few minutes and will see if there is any improvement. I did place a big order for husband and daughter. Son only wants stuff that makes him look like Sid Vicious - I think you probably would have dated him in the 80s, Tabs! I have never ordered from Saks online! I did order plaid pants for Christmas and the elk tshirt for my daughter for December - her reindeer one was looking sparse!

I will definitely keep you all posted and all the support is so appreciated - you will never know how much!

    2. WMM - I burst out laughing there, I would have loved him!

      Delete
    3. WMM is your son also channeling Sid Vicious? Is he best friends with my Old Rascal? I keep waiting for him to tone down the chains and the black but nope, as a physics major he enjoys looking NOT like a nerd is the reasoning. Crazy kid!

      Delete
    4. Oldest rascal majoring in physics, colour me impressed. Was just doing a boot size try-on for Tabs and while I stuck to the preppy Sperry and Sorel section, two racks over they had a full rack of Sid for Sons stompers, funny that they come all polished, not pre-distressed.

  7. Oh WMM, my heart goes out to you! I know this must be extremely hard on you, especially this particular weekend. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!

Nothing is really exciting me from the new rollouts. I really liked the printed floral dress until I saw the back of it. The Tartan plaid pants are super cute, but the silhouette tends to look horrible on me, so they will more than likely be a pass. I do like the Edie Grand in calf hair, so may stalk that for sale if it makes it there eventually.

    1. Oh I forgot about the Liberty print PJs. Those are really cute, and I would imagine the cotton is very soft, too. Only thing is they would probably wrinkle very easily and that would bother me.

    2. Thanks FFM! - I agree the dress' cutout makes it a non-starter! that is a summer thing in my book! I did order the popcorn sweater but I am not hopeful - the larger gauge knits do not typically work on top, but we will see....

  8. FFM - i had them on my list, but $228 CDN is too steep for me!!!

  9. WMM - sorry to hear about your dad's health. I'm hoping for the best for you in these difficult times!

As for the new rollout, there's sooooo much I like! I have a weakness for light, dusty purples so I'm also eyeing the lavender popcorn-knit sweater, and might have to consider collecting the champagne color as well. I like that the knit pattern is novel, and it looks like it'll be a functional, warm, but interesting sweater. I like the look of the mohair one too but I'm kind of afraid of mohair. . . . I tried on the velvet top (I'll put up a review soon) and rather like the style; it's not as short as I'd feared and actually came down over my jeans. I'll have to figure out what kind of an outfit to do with it. So many lovely satiny items -- the Pintuck Cafe Capri in that lush burgundy, burgundy again in the Shoulder Lace Dress, and the Cafe Capri in the green and purple Tie Silk colors -- alas, these will probably be "dream" items for me!

And I just noticed your right sidebar with the information about the "Club" -- hilarious!

  11. I'll be thinking of you all day. Bless your Dear Dad and you.
Even when you're worried and busy here you are totally cracking us up! Off to get the white rum!
Those purple pants of yours look divine. I picked a couple of navy things from the roll-out, and some Lulu Frost earrings in a wonderful pale blue.
Please let us know how your day is going when you have a chance!
    xo!

  12. Thanks Dani - am sitting here with him now. Very peaceful and sad.

I think i said one of the rules is that there is hunour in everything and my dad was a clothing diva himself so he would think it funny! I think i was admiring the same lulu frost earrings. I felt good about my purchases which are presents. The good thing is none is final sale so whatever arrives is returnable. I am excited about some of christmas like items - i did order the plaid skimmers and i think i need the ivory plaid blouse

    1. Oh, you two, I only want those Lulu earrings (and a new plaid bathrobe from self-Santa because it's navy blue). But am holding firm so far given BR Anna chandeliers and the promise of investment earrings if I stick to my budget.
WMM, I just ordered a JC merino sweater vest and some shirts for my 80+ pater who used to be very natty and still does okay minus the farm-boy ratty jacket outerwear. We are with you in spirit, thinking positive thoughts and trying to come up with a wintery rum cocktail since I that's one liquor where I can't do the straight stuff - too sweet. Deep breaths...

    2. Thanks GF - my dad wore his dad's hat for 40 years - talk about ratty...

  13. I am so sorry to hear about your dad's health. I will keep him in my prayers, and you too. These are hard times.

I feel like I've done my holiday shopping damage already with Valentinas and the velvet Matchsticks, but there is always a new temptation and I can never resist trying out some of the new things. I am going to try the popcorn sweater too, but I am also not hopeful. It will probably be too short and boxy. The three-quarter sleeved beaded top is also on my list to try. I will have to check the store for my sought-after crew-neck waffle shirts, but all I see online are the gold-buttoned henley style, sigh!!! I called the 800 # today to ask a question about sizing, and I mentioned in passing that I wish there were reviews to check on their web site. She asked if I wanted her to pass on that feedback, I said sure! and she took my name and presumably passed on my request lol. Somehow I don't think I am going to be the agent of change here, but a girl can try. Hang in there hon, we are all thinking of you guys.

  14. I'm sorry you dad has taken a turn. I hope he is ok.

Nothing really for me this roll out. I like a bit of the jewelry and maybe a sweater or two, but nothing I HTH right now. I was hoping for a few pretty tees-but all of the crew necks are unflattering on my busty figure so they're a pass.
    Take care!

  17. Hi WMM, wishing you strength and I hope your father pulls through.

  19. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope as well that he will recover and you can spend more time with him. Both my grandma and my grandpa passed away around Xmas and if there is never a good time for a loved one to leave us it is even more aggravating during a time that is usually festive. My thoughrs are with you abd your family.

No party dresses for me this year, besides the fact that I only have a couple of occasions I decided that I would recycle what I have and get that cost per wear down! I actually ordered the handknit cable sequined sweater (that was already on the website last week) to pair with a sequined dress, a la Michael Kors. Will see if it fits the bill even if I don't have my hopes up! I snagged the camel plaid pants yesterday and if they ship, they are going to be my holiday pants.
