Our Resort: Tree People Kingdom

When I booked our resort, I was unsure if it would look as good as it did in the pictures.  Fortunately, i was good to go, as the Old Key West Resort at Disney was a delightful and quiet resort with a great ambiance.

We asked for a third floor condo and that's what we got.  As you can see from the pictures I posted yesterday, it was like being in a tree house.  I have decided that drinking red wine in a tree house is a delightful job.  I am now officially applying for all positions that require that skill and can be reached here...

The front of the condo.  All easter egg colours and gingerbread trim.

the pool nearby.  we never used it.  we would go to the parks and then return to the tree house for the afternoon....

I was mesmerized by the grasses.  I grow these at home and to see them growing in a lovely garden made me quite wistful.

Bucolic streets, the quiet only marred now and then by gangs of grandparents and their children and grandchildren, who roamed the neighbourhood with balloons and strollers and cotton candy.  Late at night, the bribing to the get them to sleep would begin.

Our tree house overlooked a canal, home to ducks and ibis and the odd heron....

And while it was early spring, the azalea was in bloom.  sigh....

Every day I watched flocks of these fellows go up and down the canal.  They were just lovely...

There are no indoor pictures, since by the time I thought of it, the inside of the condo, was quite messy, what with us becoming tree people and all....However the pictures on Disney's web site are accurate and can be trusted!

The last night we were there, the kids got to overhear a "domestic" (No, not ours!) - a couple in the room next door were having a heated discussion on the balcony that was adjacent to our living room.  There was a lot of "I'm just trying to understand" and "I guess I just don't understand human nature" and some reference to something that occurred "after the electric parade in the magic kingdom" during the previous year.    This went on for a good hour until dear son shocked them by going next door and telling them that he had to get to sleep and could they please quiet down....  Tree people are not to be kept awake by current or past grievances....

The resort was lovely enough that it would be worth it to simply visit there and skip the parks if you'd like....

But not the tree people... they went daily... and this leads to my next post called "When Good People Walk too far and for too long..."

Have an awesome Sunday and stay safe out there!

  1. Those buildings look lovely - I can't believe it's a resort! Resorts are full of negative connotations to me, so I guess there are good ones around.
Glad you had such lovely accommodation, and had a good laugh about the domestic!

    1. Oh and before I forget, thanks so much for the 'True Detective' recommendation. We've binge-watched the first four episodes and it is very, very good. Very dark.

    2. Ruth this is the closest we have ever gotten to an all-inclusive resort, since neither of us are the type to go lay on the beach for a week and I am afeard after all the stories I read about the binge-drinking! The grounds were lovely! I forgot to say that we bordered on a golf course and it is my experience that golf courses are some of the loveliest real estate on the planet! I am so glad you are loving True Detective. Tonight is the finale here and I am on pins and needles and sad, as the acting has been so awesome!

  2. If you find a job opening for drinking red wine in a tree house, would you see if they need two people please! It looks and sounds idyllic. All except for the domestic issue. That happens everywhere though.

    1. I know! I think on vacation one ought to have one's domestic in whispers...

As for needing an accomplice, well everyone needs a sidekick in one's wine drinking!

  3. Blue sky and greenery - one of my favourite sights, roll on summer time, where maybe we will have one or two days like that, if we're lucky!
That is a good job, I'll apply for it too.

    1. Tabs, I am looking out my window at snow, snow, snow! But I am persevering and have decided to make myself a pre-spring capsule wardrobe!

  4. The resort looks so warm and restful. Was it warm enough to swim? Isn't it amazing how Disney can plop down a peaceful resort like this amidst all that theme park mayhem? I'm sorry you didn't return home to warmer weather. This is one of those springs that would not just get here already.

    1. Cate - all of the pools are heated so it was definitely warm enough to swim! Canadians even swim in the ocean in February in Florida since our oceans rarely make it above 72F anyway in the summer!

    2. Last time we were in Florida, it was in the 40s (Fahrenheit!), so cold! The pool heaters couldn't keep up with that cold. But I forget, you are Canadian, you are probably a lot tougher than me when it comes to cold!

    1. Jen - I have been moving heavy woollens out of my closet all morning! I am dreaming of 33 items in there - don't know if it's a reaction to wearing the same thing for 9 days and not minding.... But I am loving brighter colours and lighter materials...

  7. Lovely spot and too funny about brave son having to put a stop to the domestic! I bet they didn't realize they were being overheard? It really does look tranquil and SO WARM.

  9. Oh I desperately need those sunny and verdant scenes. Now we'll know the inspiration behind the "squabbling couple in the balcony" in your future book. If one of them gets murdered, the son in the neighboring suite moves to the top of the suspects list.

Yes, we need food and packing reports, too.

  12. Welcome back!! Love all these photos - the resort looks so wonderful! Looking forward to your next posts about the trip. It's so nice to see pictures filled with greenery. The temps have been rising a little above freezing the past few days (2C!!) so it does feel like spring might finally be coming.

  13. Love the accommodations and good for your son to take initiative but he did show more patience than I would have. Looking forward to more details and have resolved to break up next winter with a long overdue trip to DW to see what's changed in 40 years.

  15. The resort looks divine but I have to keep repeating: I am trying not to be jealous,I am trying not to be jealous!
We live on a golf course with the fairway in "my" backyard. Unfortunately after all of our snow this year, it is not quite looking very lush. Hopefully the green will return soon!
I am spending my Sunday continuing to go through my closet. The super thick sweaters and dull colors are being sent to the laundry room to prepare for moth-free storage. I hate those suckers!
