My Outfits of the Day and the Awful Truths Behind Them! Style Shoot Expose!

Okay, so it is already Wednesday!!!  Where is the time going????

I am just now posting my Easter Sunday outfit!

I was not all that imaginative.  I did not get a chance to move clothes around this past weekend and the only things in my closet remotely easter-y were my J Crew skirt in that lovely floral of turquoises and mints and my brocade blue Tippi Sweater.  I paired these with my minty Valentinas.

I am not sure about that blue and those colours, but whatever.

This picture does not tell the whole story...

The reality:

I am glistening because I have cooked for 3 hours straight.  There is probably chicken fat on my face!  While I have lost 5 lbs, it wasn't enough to zip that skirt up without creating a MOUNTAIN of MUFFAGE, so I didn't zip the final part of the skirt at the waistband!  My feet were killing me - I wanted to wear Uggs by then as my feet were so sore and swollen from standing around in the kitchen.  I put on a number of strands of pearls and in my haste (because I was running behind), I broke one of the strands and I swore.  I THINK my hair was clean, but I am not sure.  Oh yeah - and my dinner was not great, though for some reason, we had the leftovers last night and it tasted much better.  You gotta love those do-overs.

In other words - My OOTD was a typical catalogue fashion shoot!  Just with a shorter, earthier, model!

Those kind of fashion shoots or re-touching drive me mad! Though if I could have carved out a waist with photoshop I would have!  It's like when you go into a store and you see they have a baggy sweater artfully pinned in the back.  I wish someone would artfully do that with my double chin.. But never mind, I did look Easter-y!

Sometimes I take 5 or 6 photos till I feel I have one presentable to put up here.  Am i the only one who suffers from this?  Please tell me no.  Or lie to me - I don't mind if you lie to me!

But today was MUCH better.  I got up, was inspired to move clothing around, took a bagful of clothing to the consigner, who gave me a lovely cheque that was already spent anyway, and had a nice day, despite the biting cold.

Rather than an easter egg, today I was Blue Steel with Bling!  Cheap Bling!

This is all old stuff with new shoes - a navy Michael Kors cotton pullover, my navy wide-legged Pink Tartan Trousers and my new Tory Burch wedges.  The latter are starting to hurt now, 6 hours later.  I know better than to break shoes in all at once, and yet I refuse to remember that fact until hour 4 every single time!

Everything is zipped here, but I am slouching forward, as my daughter would not get out of bed to take the picture! SHe wouldn't let me run for lipstick.  Never mind, I look like a wall of navy, which is attempting to camaflouge all the wobbly bits!

Around my neck, I am wearing a cheap little necklace I purchased last summer at Le Chateau.  I thought of wearing a scarf or a long pendant, but no, I had my heart set on this once I remembered I owned it.  The truth of being a visual person is that if I don't see it, I completely forget I own it.  I am not proud of this fact, but I sometimes feel like I am in the movie 50 First Dates: "Hey THAT's a great Necklace!  Hey, THAT'S a great necklace, etc, etc, etc.."

But it actually is a fun little necklace and I paid all of $10 for it.  I am sure some of you are thinking "well duh - it looks like you spent $10 on it.." and you would be absolutely right to do so, but I am going to go on blithely as if you are saying "Hey THAT's a great Necklace!"

See - it sparkles and there is blue and what looks like a part of a daisy and have I mentioned that on April 3rd I love daisies?  Well, I do!

So I was the Blue Tower of Bling, and though no one mentioned how hot I looked I felt like it, and honestly, that is enough, because how many days do you really feel like you are all that???

So my Style Question Wednesday as been pre-empted my my Style Shoot Expose Wednesday, but I am all the better for the honesty.  Sort of.  Maybe...

Have a wonderful Wednesday and stay safe out there!

  1. MUFFAGE! I knew there had to be a word for it! Thank you!

I admire the ladies with the courage to show full-face, full-body shots, and I love the generosity of spirit that shares how stuff looks on real women with real bodies and real lives. Thank you again.

    1. Aw Fred - I will always share my muffage with you - even if you would rather look away! ;-)

  2. 'Muffage' is perfect! Well most of my blog pics are of me with crutches, cast or ugly running shoes, so I've given up on trying to look glam.
You look effortlessly out together in both of your pics, Wendy, so I'm impressed!

  3. Shoes indoors baffles me, I'm in socks or Uggs at home!
Whilst I like the top outfit, the trousers/top combo is dropped dead style maven, it puts you on the best dressed list.
I was born with muffage, I'll be loosening my waist button till the day I die.

    1. I always have on shoes or Uggs as my feet get too cold in sock feet! But I am almost never wearing dressy shoes - too painful! I was working on creaking in the Torys yesterday and then forgot I had them on! I have to get you the style # of those paige pants I own - the waist expands up to 2 inches more than the size for "those days" - they are like wearing very chic PJs!

  4. Congrats on the weight loss! Agree with Tabs.. Only slippers in the house. Love the navy outfit. Hoping wider leg pants take over in fashion versus skinny. So much more balancing for us top heavy lovelies.

  5. Love the all navy outfit. And the easter outfit!
I'm laughing about your daughter not getting out of bed to take the picture. Crack me up.
Well my older daughter is 18 today, she's caught up to your young man.

    2. Oh Happy Birthday! I hope your #1 daughter has lots of drive and ambition - I am looking to arrange a marriage for my son! He is cute and funny, surely that accounts for a lot!

    3. Happy birthday to your daughter, Dani. They grow up so fast, don't they? What an exciting milestone. I hope you and yours have fun celebrating!

    4. Thanks for those good wishes, she's a really good girl and Wendy she has a steely drive and is a super high achiever, but the best part is she's a really nice person. You'd be happy with her as a daughter in law and then everyone here could help us plan our wedding outfits, oh the fun we'd have! ;)

  6. Both outfits looking good; I am drawn to navy. V. chic you look. Like Fred, thank you for the muffage term. I am deciding where to put the accent. mufFAGE sounds good. We all have our shapes which supercede weight; I have those hips that start right below the waist. Impossible.

    1. I Lane - I think your pronunciation is like mine! I don't have hips at all - wish I could push belly through to butt to make it have a shape! there is a lesson in there somewhere!

  7. Love the navy outfit. I'm a big fan of monochromatic dressing - it just makes everyone look taller, leaner, and more minimal. I'm out of my shoes the minute I walk in the door - even trainers.

  8. Hey, THAT's a great necklace! :) I do like it! It's unique and interesting and probably better made than many of J. Crew's necklaces (J. Crew should consider selling some of them for $10!). Perfect against the navy blue. I like the Easter outfit too. I have the dress in the same print as your skirt and I hope it still fits me. I have lost a few pounds but maybe not enough yet for the dress, I have muffage issues of my own.

    1. Hi Cate - thanks for liking the necklace!!!!

I don't know if it is better made, but the price was right! Have decided I will only spend money on jewellry now that will actually accrue in value. Everything else needs to be super cheap! I hope your dress still fits, too! I am hoping that some of my dresses fit as well! My J Crew Giverny dress was showing too much boobage last year - i am hoping that this is not the case this summer!

  9. CLOTHES RUSH Hey WMM, love the Miss Daisy navy outfit (you know I would). As Kathy notes, you do look like a tall drink of water, even with the supine photographer slump. Off to the gym midday to battle back against my rump lump and prevent early onset bingo wings, hopefully give some sauce to my linguine arms (otherwise summer paddling pursuits will be an extra big pain). Thank goodness gym tanks cinch muffage. The (so-called) end of winter always makes me feel chubba hubba. Sun's out brilliantly here today so hope it also migrates to you.

  10. Easter dinner was crazy for me too. I was cooking all day and husband sat me down twice to take a break. The first time I was thankful and thought him sweet. The second time I told him I would sit down only if he stayed the heck out of my kitchen until dinner was ready. Might have been a wee bit stressed.

I am right there with you on the OOTD photos. I cannot take good outfit photos to save my life and even when I think I've got it by the time I see it on my laptop it is not quite what I saw in the mirror or the tiny camera screen. I would love to know how to use photoshop. I'd just put my head on the models and call it done.

    1. Ooh - that is a great idea! Damn! Wish I'd thought of that before I started! My husband seems to find ways to get in the end near the end. It is very frustrating!

  11. Love the daisy necklace and the navy ensemble. The wide leg pants look great on you. Our body types are opposite. I'm bigger on bottom verses the top so wide leg pants make me look dumpy. I see them on others and of course on the long lean models and just sigh. At least I can mark them off my list and save a little $$.

  13. You look great! I agree, it is essential to hide the toppage! I have the same problem, wish I was one of those women who have tiny waists. My legs/hips are thin so if I can glide over the middle it is deceptively slimming. Works great except for bathing suit time.

    1. Oh Jill! Bathing suit time! Yuck - I look thin in front, wide side on.. Sigh...we have our lots in life...

  14. You look hot! There, now somebody said it :)
I really love that navy outfit, looks amazing with your complexion and hair. And had you not mentioned anything, I would think those pictures came from glamorous shoots, where your assistant was busy fishing out all the green m&ms and spritzing you with Evian water.

    1. AB - you are too kind and too funny. My assistant, a 21 year old college student, was not so enthusiastic! No m&ms for me sadly.

  15. you look lovely and this is funny!

i try to limit my photos to 5 attempts. if i can't get a decent one in 5 then i give up. also, i wish i'd never included my head in photos - how much easier that would have been.

  16. Hi WMM, both outfits are excellent, and I especially love the all-navy outfit - the trousers are so chic. Unless you had told us, I am sure no one would ever have guessed you had been cooking for 3 hours in that first photo! I was trying on my summer dresses yesterday and was depressed to find an extra inch or so on the waist, probably the result of overindulgence over the holidays, and now some of my dresses don't fit as well as they used to. Muffage indeed! I'm off to figure out an exercise regimen to get it off in time for summer!

  17. I'm too lazy to wear heels anymore. The last time I wore heels, I ended up spending 3 hours standing in someone's tiled kitchen, and was limping all the way home at the end of the evening.

I really like your "slouchy" photo - very happy and relaxed looking!

  18. WMM- I like your Easter outfit, but really like the navy one. Very chic. Even though I am very conservative with my jewelry purchases, I like your bling, and the way it is set on the navy shirt is perfect. The necaklace has an interesting artistic uniqueness. Good find!

  19. I, too, wore that skirt on Easter-natch :) I was looking for a cardigan to wear over my cream Victoria cami, but in the end was running too late and had to go without (was thankful church was warmer than usual that morning). I've decided to pretend this skirt is a spring/summer piece. It seems so much easier to style for the warmer weather, to me. Love your navy outfit!

Congrats on your 5 lbs! Need to shed some winter muffage myself. Talked to a newly skinny coworker today who has sworn off flour and sugar; sadly, I'd rather just camouflage my muffage!. Have a great rest of the week!

    1. Thanks Wendy! The problem with 5 pounds is that while you know it, your body, knows it, you are content with having done it, but it will about 10 more before everything fits right again! Oh well - it is a start!

  20. Are you kidding? There are times when I've taken two dozen shots and none of them are presentable.

Your Easter outfit is gorgeous but your all navy one is relaxed and chic. At home, I'm in uggs always and you'll rarely find me dressed well enough to open the door for the postman.

    Hey, THAT'S a great necklace!
