Miller Time Friday in which WMM goes to make good on Broadway (literally) and has a pretty darn good substitute

Happy Friday!  And HAPPY MARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh happiest of happies - while you are reading this I am probably frantically running around the house trying to pack and get all organized.  Tonight I am dusting and vacuuming!  We had a wicked storm today and the roads were wretched, so none of my errands got done today!

This time next week I will be back with tales of my many exploits and adventures.

Saturday, I will be in Lane Land, AKA Maine, waiting to wake up at 4:30 am on Sunday to catch a 5:48 or some such nonsensensical hour flight to JFK.  We are used to taking milk run flights where I am from - no one ever arrives or departs at a decent hour!

And then:  Broadway!!!  I am actually staying right in Times Square, which is very tourist-y I know, but which is very convenient when we one is travelling with 4 people between the age of 18 and 21!

If you look about 20 some floors above the Phantom, you will find me waving at you!  Oh I know this is an old picture, but i have been there before, so it could be me up there!

During our visit we will museum hop, do some shopping, (I hope) have coffee with celebrity blogger Ema, and on Tuesday evening, see Tom Hanks in his new show, which opens in previews Saturday.  I like to think that Barry and I will be there to help work out the kinks and be of moral support to Miss Rita Wilson, soon to be my new BFF.  I hope Ema doesn't mind if I bring her along..

In the interim, you are in for a treat!  My good pal Get Fresh, AKA The Bean, because she knows ALL, has agreed to sub for me till next Friday!  I have had the opportunity to read her blog posts already and they are REALLY great!  You will be telling her, like i have, that it is time for her to start her own blog!!!

So thank you, thank you, thank you GetFresh, for entertaining the troops while Dorothy Lamour goes to Paris for a furlough with Errol Flynn!

As an aside  - you should know that as the post LOADER, I took liberties and wrote the labels, heehee!  All editorial comments there are my own and in no way, shape or form, be attributed to GetFresh!

In honour of the next week, and since I will be in the Big Apple Darlings, I felt that this week's Miller Time calls for a Big Apple Martini:

Cocktail

Big Apple Martini
Ingredients:
- 2 oz p.i.n.k. vodka
- 1 oz sour apple schnapps
- 1/2oz pineapple juice
- 1/2 oz sour mix
- drizzle of Chambord (a black raspberry liquer)
Garnish: apple slice

Combine vodka, sour apple schnapps, pineapple juice, and sour mix over chipped ice and shake well. Strain into a well-chilled martini glass. Drizzle Chambord through the center. Garnish with a granny smith apple slice on the side of the glass.  Get drunk.

The latter is my own editorial aside. Only one or two of these mind you.  I can't seem to talk after one... After two, I can only dance the rhumba!  Ema - you may want to issue a warning to the public!

Have a great week - I will be checking in now and then to see the comments and give you the odd heads up about how we are doing!  I do not expect rainbows, like when Fred travelled recently to Hawaii, but then, one never knows!!!

Stay safe out there!

  8. Have a wonderful time Wendy. Can't wait to hear all about your trip. Good that the weather has eased so you will have safe, uninterrupted travels.

I always thought the milk run was when you made multiple stops, as in delivering milk to every house. Never thought of it as an early morning thing but that makes sense too.

    1. xoxo In Eastern Canada at least the milk run was the early rural trains that took milk, produce, mail etc. to the few bigger cities and stopped in EVERY small community. (My fam had dairy/ farms back in the day, so they actually used to horse & wagon, later trucks to the train at 4:00 a.m.)

    2. around here (NYC and eastern LI), that was the milk train, which made more stops than even the commuter locals, since it also stopped at non-passenger depots. The milk run was the early morning errands, generally accompanied by small children who did not want to go into the store but could not be relied upon to wait nicely in the car.

    4. Oh it's so interesting what things are called in various parts of the world, even within the same country. Where I grew up, we had dooryards. My husband grew up 3 hours away and had never heard of them!

      Delete
    5. Okay- I'm intrigued. What is a dooryard?

      Delete
    6. A dooryard where I come from is the area near your kitchen door where your mother could still see you while she was in the kitchen

    2. George takes the most work, I'm not going to lie. There will be numerous costume changes, fiddling with beard, etc. Thanks for your help Cate!

    3. Nigel strikes me as lower maintenance. Sure GF, leave me with the difficult one! lol

    4. Oh but when he is nice, he is VERY nice...

    5. cate I thought you'd prefer suave George to Nigel's incessant chatter. However, I am sure they may both throw a monkey wrench or two. If so, we'll have to pu them on detention until WMM gets back.

WMM - "and when he's bad he's HORRID?"

    1. I have been checking the weather and it is supposed to change again by Sunday and be spring-like again! It caused quite a stir here, resulted in me buying a lighter coat, as I felt my pea coat would be too warm for +7. So now I will be all layers, layers, layers! I will send you a note on your blog when we get there SUnday and we can figure out a good time to meet!

  23. Let me know if you see a slim blond boy shimmying up a flag pole in Times Square. My son and his high school senior class will be arriving in NYC Monday for their class trip and he is just crazy enough to do whatever someone dares him to do. I sadly will not be along for the trip. If I was I would want to tag along with you and Ema for coffee and shopping at Jcrew! Hope you have a fabulous time!
