Nigel is NOT amused...And Cate Looks Ravishing

Well, first thing this a.m., my friend GetFresh linked me to this story, about a poor little monkey who was found wandering around the parking lot in IKEA in Toronto.

Now, I have also been known to wander around an IKEA parking lot, so frankly, this part of the story made perfect sense to me.  My first reaction was "poor little thing can't remember where he parked his car."

This particular version of the story cracked me up, beginning with the headline:

Stylish but illegal monkey found roaming Toronto Ikea

Now what I was intrigued by was that this poor little fellow was wearing a shearling coat.  Nigel, Club Fashion muse, loves shearling.  But this poor little fellow was scared and alone:

I also think he might have been over-dressed for IKEA, which might have also caused his disorientation - it is my experience that when one shops at IKEA it is critically important to dress in light layers and carry a compass.

The story goes on thusly:

"Dressed in a shearling coat and a diaper, the monkey managed to open its crate, unlock the car door and go for a stroll in the IKEA parking lot - clearly a "smart monkey" for having managed all that said Toronto Police Staff Sargeant Ed Dzingala."

Now this is where Nigel MUST take umbrage:

1) Nigel does not condone the use of a shearling/diaper combo.  And rumours of him wearing a diaper are purely hearsay and he denies all of the stories about that vacation in Mustique...
2) Monkeys who wear shearling are typically found this time of year in places like Holt Renfrew or Harrods NOT IKEA.
3) rumours that the shearling/diaper combo are soon to be featured in "Looks We Love" are patently untrue.  However, Nigel and his client (the chap in the above photo) are now open to endorsements by multinational companies..
4) Monkeys must NEVER travel in crates.  EVER.  Nigel only travels in bentleys or aston martins.  Oh sometimes the odd limo, but that is only whilst travelling as the guest of a member of the royal family of Saudi Arabia (which he will deny ever having done BTW)
5) he is unsure against what yardstick this well-intentioned police officer measures a monkey's intelligence and wonders if perhaps it is against the City of Toronto's embattled former mayor?
6) Finally, while Nigel is pleased to see well-dressed monkeys out about the town, he cannot condone the treatment of monkeys as pets, no matter how well-treated they might be.

Now we must wait for other signs.  Pigs in Dani's kitchen?  What could be next?????  Some would say monkeys in shearlings coats are emblematic of bigger social ills.  I cannot concur, if only because I am sitting beside a small dog in a hoodie (hangs head in shame)

Now on to other stylish issues!  Today I saw a picture of Cate Blanchette at The Hobbit world premier (am I the only one so excited about this film????):

Middle Earth madness! Cate Blanchett shines as she attends the highly anticipated premiere of The Hobbit and is welcomed by thousands of screaming fans

I had to look at this dress for a few moments before i made up my mind - it is so different than anything I have seen before.  But I have decided that I absolutely adore it.  What do you think???  She is absolutely, gloriously gorgeous!  Some male members of my house do not concur, but I adore her!

I hope you have a most wonderful evening and day tomorrow and keep an eye out for the signs.  Tigers in Top Hats?  Hippos in High Tops?

Stay Safe out there!!!!

  1. Thank you, I really needed the laugh today. Am I a bad person if I actually LIKE the shearling/diapers look on the monkey?

  2. FLAMINGOS IN FASCINATORS - WMM, Nigel's buddy had his shearling returned to owner, he's off to new digs near Uxbridge, ON. I normally think the Blanchett's red carpet choices suit her bold, off-beat chic and take an eye-catching bit of risk within what works for her. She seems big on waist accents these days (see Rodarte at "Life of Pi" premiere). But that combo of bustier and wrestling champ corset just did not work for me (of course, she can afford to make her legs look shorter.) I have dubbed it the Bad Berardi, excuse me.
And not to worry, if we don't find you strolling the IKEA parking lot (pop inside for hot chocolate, meatballs and a shearling to curl up on if not wear at least), this December, I think we ought to look for you at the movies. En-JOY all the flicks you've picked, lots of compelling choices before the Oscar close date.

    1. HA! I did have to muse a long time over that dress - I think however that I like the boldness of it - she just seems fearless to me and so I am one to give her a thumbs up and since I could NEVER wear that dress, could I be, well, envious? Yup! Personally I still think the prettiest dress of the day belongs to M of Shopping with M -in her kohl dress she looks all January Jones!

I love IKEA, but fear it all at the same time. Too many things, too many things... makes my head hurt!

    2. Off to check out M.'s dress while I wait for my tomato soup. IKEA's holiday tabletops were a charming mix this year - and not all country or Swedish mod. But I agree the crowds, twisting aisles and self-serve check-outs can be craz-ee.
Agree re. Cate B. She owns what she chooses to wear, and stands out from all the stylist-done starlets. Missed Clive Owen at Elizabeth II TIFF party few years back, but did meet Cate briefly. Down-to-earth, engaging and the kind of person you'd just love to have over for champagne - or BBQ.

    3. Oh you lucky thing! Was her skin as perfect as it appears?

    4. Yes, pretty flawless and luminous and didn't look like tons of make-up. She is a self-confessed fan of emu oil (used like serum), oxygen facials and vodka. Which just makes her more appealing.

  3. We were just reading that story here! Where to start? I'm still laughing. "Looks We Love"... J. Crew needs a mascot, just give the poor thing some crazy pants and some sequins and there you go.

I am excited for The Hobbit too! I loved the LoTR movies, even though I'm generally not a sci-fi person. I don't love Cate's dress but she can wear anything and look fabulous. The dress may grow on me too. The top is beautiful and perfect on her.

    3. No offense to the crazy pants or the sequins, I like it all! But just think what the CFS could do with the monkey!

I do love Cate in general and her hobbit dress in particular. I loved the book too but usually cannot stand those movies, maybe this one is different though...

  5. I'm going to see the Hobbit in three hours, can't wait.
The way you recanted that monkey story was hilarious, you have to write a book.

    1. I am so jealous! Let me know what you think! It opens here Friday, but I expect the theatre to be madness for awhile!

    2. It was a preview....it opens here on Sunday.
Well it was a bit long and the dwarf fighting scenes got a bit repetitive but by the end I had come round a bit more, I loved LOTR but this is definitely more at the children's level.
It's in 24 frames/3 D which was incredible, it made it feel like I was at the theatre.

    3. Things I never thought I would hear you say "the dwarf fighting scenes got a bit repetitive"!!!!! LOL!!!

I am definitely in. Besides Dani's shed and Dunvegan, I would also love to live in Bag End!!!

      Oh BTW: 14 SLEEPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Hi Ina! Ha! I am laughing so hard because it ir pretty much only me that loves this dress! Do you think that's why I struggle with my dressing? This could be a major breakthrough!

  7. I feel so sorry for that poor little monkey! Your story is hilarious!

I had to do a double take on Cate's dress. I still didn't like it.

  8. I don't say this very often but truly: LOL!!!
    You are hilarious!
Thanks for making my morning a good one.
So excited for the movie. When I was finishing my philosophy degree in 1998 I did an entire University course on Tolkien as an elective, it was fascinating. I loved it!
I'm not sure about Cate's dress I have to go look again. I agree she is stunning, I usually really like whatever she wears!
    Have a great day!

I want to go back and do my Masters in English! How much fun would that be????? I have a masters in Sociology, but I would love to do something so fun like that!

  9. I feel so bad for the abandoned monkey. I feel bad for Cate too. Who knew she had scoliosis? I suppose it is a fashion statement to wear the brace over top the blouse. Cast it off and be free, I say. Cast off the child's barrette while you're at it.
