Gap Icon Fitted Boyfriend Weekend Shirt

Oh! I saw this shirt in an ad in  Harpers Bazaar while flying to France and knew I had to have it!

Editorial aside - I know that the first sentence sounds like something that you would hear one of the Kardashian sisters say to the camera, but in my defense, it has been 4 years since I have left the North American continent!  Now that I have absolved myself from the absolute snootiness of this sentence, I feel I can go on...

Here is the ad:

the icon shop. the icon redefined.

Oh perfection!  I even wanted to the ballet slippers!

Luckily, by the time I arrived at the hotel, drank half a bottle of a lovely rose, ate some runny cheese and baguette, Gap was good enough to have a friends and family sale.  I would not say I am a family member of the Gap; until this past year, I found the styling and quality kind of blah.  That definitely put me in the friend category, kind of an old friend who remembered happier days in university, wearing Gap clothing and going to bars and dancing all night...Could we rekindle our friendship?

Yes!!!!!

It was like we had never been apart!  This shirt arrived and was all that I had dreamt of, and more.  It is perfection.  The cotton is flannel-y soft and divine!  I sized up to a large from my typical medium as I wanted to wear this shirt in a loose way.  The shoulders are slightly large on me, but not noticeably so.  I felt like I was putting on a shirt that I had worn forever!

I am sporting them here with my new aldo leopard loafers.  How cute are they?  I must say, as soon as I put this outfit on I felt very Janet-ish - our beautiful Janet from the wonderful Gardener's Cottage blog.  It is a simple, chic look.

A bit of a closeup of the shirt, which is a camp shirt.  It is completely unironed here; I simply had no energy to iron last evening!

I checked on the gap canada web site and the white is completely sold out.  I imagine they will get more soon. There is a lovely lilac colour which I am actually going to order this morning, since they still have a 25% off sale going on.

At $41 CDN, these are a wonderful deal and I see myself living in these shirts this fall.  In fact, if another white one becomes available, I am snapping it up!

I just checked gap.com and there is also a lovely soft pink colour and the whites are available for order, but are back-ordered until October.

I cannot recommend these shirts enough! I ordered a couple of more gap items to try on for fall casual wear and hope to have those reviews later in the week.

As an aside, a close-up of the leopard loafers for those who are interested:

Inexpensive and fun!

Update:

Despite my best efforts, I could not get the size 6 Valentinas to work.  I realized that the leopard ones I had were size  6.5's,  and those i had to put heel grippers and arch cushions in so that I could wear them.  Frankly, for this much money, this would be too much bother to make them "do".  So they have gone back, too!  I am assuming that the universe prefers me to only get the black dressy boots!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!!

    1. Funny - me too! I recently purchased some wide legged navy trousers on sale from pink tartan which are divine and I cannot wait to start wearing them as the weather cools. I think you cannot go wrong with the two Hepburns vis-a-vis style - they will never steer you wrong!!!

  5. This outfit looks so chic and elegant on you, WMM! I think it should become one of your 'signature' casual looks.

  6. WMM, you do look simply fabulous - and for a steal *cheering*. Are those Gap slippers too? I tried them on in my local store. But did not seem practical for my hard-wear life and the half-size I needed was already a bit big. If yes, great price for a fall trend. So true about the Hepburn duo! Glad you returned the pricey misfit Valentinas. And envious of your Pink Tartan pants. Would love to welcome more of their pieces to my closet along with Smythe jackets.

    1. Oh - I wish I could afford Smythe jackets - they are perfection! They had an amazing tweed last year which I so coveted, and was such amazing quality, but I just did not have the $ for it...

The slippers are Aldo. Not sure if they are online, but they had just gotten them in at the local Aldo. I love Pink Tartan - I don't have much of their clothing, but they, and Judith and Charles, are very chic!

    2. CHAMPAGNE WISHES BEER BUDGET Beyond my clothing allowance/ list as well which is more Canadian mass market (Roots, Joe F.) than flagship fashionista. Happy/ sad not much Smythe goes to sale at all now Duchess and more celebs have sported. But hey, we "Anne Girls" can always dream!

  7. I love this white shirt on you. It's perfect!
Back to work today and I hope it's going well. You'll have to take it easy this week and let the jet lag wear off.
We leave for Paris in one month. I realized that this morning and my heart skipped a beat!

  11. I LOVE this shirt! I was inspired to purchase it after reading your review...thank you! For me, the shirt is the perfect thickness, not sheer, but not like wearing a tablecloth. I adore the true oxford material, which I bet will get softer with each washing. And, it is the perfect length to be tucked in, unlike many others. Much better than the JCrew boy shirt in classic white that I returned yesterday. Plus, much cheaper, even at full price!!Definitely planning to buy the lavendar color when it goes on sale.

I've got a pair of leopard ballet flats...but now I think I need some loafers...

Thanks for your reviews...loved seeing your beautiful pictures from Paris. Hope you will post more about your trip!!
