J Crew pinstripe skirt suit visits Prince Edward Island (and takes WMM along)

Last Thursday, I headed to Prince Edward Island (PEI) for meetings.

It is always a treat to go to PEI.  I have gone there almost yearly my entire life and while many delight in the warm summer beaches, I find it particularly wonderful in the fall, when the leaves are turning and there are fewer tourists.

We stayed at the Great George, which describes itself as Charlottetown's Historic Boutique Hotel.  I had never stayed here before, but I will certainly stay there again!

I have never seen a hotel quite like this - it is comprised of 15 very old houses in a two block radius which have been lovingly restored and joined in really imaginative ways.

There is an inviting lobby, where they serve breakfast each morning and have a complimentary happy hour for all of their guests each evening between 5 and 6 pm.  Free wine - if only I had known of this place in university!

Beautiful rooms, suites and even stand-alone houses.  Room prices range from around $189 to $350 CDN  per night for this time of year, but I believe they offer specials.  You can see more about this wonderful inn complex here.

It is all very lovely and for dinner, they took the meeting participants to Sims Corner Steakhouse and Oyster Bar, which is apparently where they took Will and Kate for dinner when they visited PEI in 2011.

We ate in the room pictured below:

The food and ambiance were great and you can visit their website here.

Finally - what I wore on the day of the meetings:

My super 120s pinstripe navy suit - Aubrey style jacket and little skirt.  I had to wear the Cole Haan boots again purposefully - our meetings were being held at the Atlantic Veterinary College and they toured us through the cow and horse barns!

I will be curious for opinions, but I think the Aubrey cut is the cut for me, as opposed to the 1035 or schoolboy!  I am wearing the navy polka dot tie blouse (a Boston purchase) and felt quite comfortable all day!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and I also hope you get to visit PEI someday (and stop in New Brunswick on the way by!)

  1. So I had to google PEI ;)
We both wore the polka dot tie blouse with a suit recently, don't you love that top?!

I think you are right about the Aubrey cut, it's shorter than the 1035 and gives a lovely shape unlike the boxier schoolboy.

I'd love to come visit you on way to PEI someday!

    1. I had to google it too, I thought you were in Asia! I would love to visit there.
I've never heard of the Aubrey so I'll leave this to those with insider knowledge.

    2. Sorry and Sorry. Prince Edward Island - birthplace of Canadian COnfederacy and one of the most beautiful spots on earth.

Aubrey is a j crew jacket cut. I think there is 1035, schoolboy and aubrey. Not sure who aubrey is or was!

You would both love PEI. Tabitha - there are many wild spots along the shore that would be perfect for you!

    1. Okay - that is just too maritime-centric of me! AM updating it right now before others wake up!

  3. Morning WMM. Right, I confess to not googling PEI. Went at least once every summer/ early fall of my childhood (strawberry u-picks so nan could make gallons of jam, Festival, lobster charity events, photography...) when it was still just the massive queue for the ferry. Now that there's the bridge and more flights, I seem to get there a lot less. Although Chef Michael Smith certainly does his bit to put it on the wider map. I am a hotel hunter so nice to read that there's another charming alternative to the Delta now. And yes, that jacket is definitely you. Have a fine week...

    1. Thanks Get Fresh! I am a huge Michael Smith and love his recipes! I have never eaten in one of his restaurants, which I really regret!

    2. Skip the resto and go to one of his events or even an NB book signing (he does about a book a year.) Very fortunate to run a couple of theme weekends hosted by CMS. Although he's suprisingly American born, he and his team true unpretentious Maritimer kitchen partiers. There aren't many guest chefs who will extend an autograph session by 2 hrs to take pics and sign every single book. And you have to love anyone who, thanks to an early bookstore encounter, puts a recipe for chocolate chip cookies in every one of his releases.

    1. They are rumoured to be the best in class!

Have a great week - am loving that sweater of yours!

  5. The aubrey jacket is so great on you! The 1035 is long, and schoolboy short (in my experience, anyway - the 1035 is perfect in a regular, non tall size, which to me means it is quite long!)... aubrey is the perfect length, in between!

That hotel looks so awesome... may have to make it a destination!

    1. I don't think I even gave it enough justice. And Charlottetown is such a pretty city!

  6. I always think of "Anne of Green Gables" whenever I hear of PEI. That series was one of my favorites when I was growing up. Clearly you loved it too-judging by the name of your blog! Great pictures and great outfits. I would love to take a cruise through those islands one day.

  7. Ah - I can drive you when you come! I am an Anne Girl for sure and the island does her proud (and tacky in some places!)

  8. I absolutely love the Aubrey jacket on you, WMM! I agree that it is a really flattering length and cut, too.

The hotel you stayed at looks absolutely beautiful! Even though I have never been to PEI, I do know what/where it is, and didn't have to google. ;)

  9. Forever grateful to those PEI growers of mussels that are ready for the pot almost instantly, instead of ready only after hours of painful scrubbing, debearding and rinsing. You need another one of those jackets.
