Things That Make You go Hmm....

Well,  many thanks again for all of the wonderful birthday greetings!  I am 50 years plus 1 day and I can tell you that the 1 day makes all the difference!  The 50s are fabulous! ;-)

Okay, so I have been trying to expand my sartorial horizons, so yesterday I visited the Anthropologie site to see what was new.

One thing I really loved:

The Olivia Cutout Oxfords here. I think these are so cute and fun for the spring!

Olivia Cutout Oxfords

And as always, I checked out the home section, which is when I came across this:

The Backyard Chicken Coop:

You can have this backyard chicken coop for $3000!!!!  I am telling you: Mr. WMM will make you this for $2000!!! ;-)  Isn't that a crazy price?

It is descriped thusly:

Philadelphia-based artisan duo Margaux and Walter Kent of Peg & Awl are nothing short of resourceful - they repurpose extraordinary antique treasures into timeless, functional pieces. A strong and stout habitat built from cypress wood reclaimed from 19th century Philadelphia buildings, this mobile chicken coop is structured with two roosts, a removable ladder and nesting box with easy access to eggs through a swinging door. Coop comfortably fits three chickens.

My version would say:

"Moncton-born Mr. WMM is nothing short of cheap and resourceful - he repurposes previous projects that his wife now hates or from previously successful projects into timeless, functional pieces.  A strong and stout habitat for chickens from 21st century wood that he bought at the local Home Depot, this mobile chicken coop is structured with two roosts, a hot tub, a screening room and a jungle room for those chickens who need to "get in the mood" before they lay eggs.  Coop comfortably fits two chickens and Elvis..."

You decide which one you would want!!

Who has $3000 for a chicken coop?  Where I live, every redneck has the same structure in the backyard!

Ahhh, gotta love it!

Have an awesome Tuesday!  Sorry to egg you on!  Stay Safe Out There!

  1. You funny girl! I missed wishing you a happy day and happy year to come!!! Dug your disco party, you looked far out! Boogy on and keep on truckin, you foxy mama!

The shoes are darling. The chicken coop a crazy way to spend money. But if me and husby ever go out to pasture and get that 40 acre ranch, we would like Mr. WMM's version please.

    2. Hey Thanks Girl! Re: Homeland - I KNOW!!!! There was so much subtext and things unsaid in that last episode that my heads was whipping! And the way Saul looked at Carrie! I am having serious withdrawal sysmptoms!!!

  2. I'm pretty sure I can make that chicken coop for under $200, tools included. ;)

Glad you are enjoying the 50s so far.

  3. MY jaw has dropped, it looks like something Huck Finn knocked together before breakfast!

    1. It could have been the raft that Huck and Jim used! That would explain the exorbitant price and the cultural value, but then you better bid right away as surely that would be a one of a kind item!!!

  4. Don't forget the beads hanging in the coop's entrance and the disco balls inside for extra motivation! :) I like those oxfords too, the purple ones caught my eye.

    1. Good idea Cate. Especially since our chickens are going to be laying tie-dyed egges!

FYI - I actually want chickens when I do finally retire! Barry is resisting completely! He is horrified by the thought!!!

    2. Yes do this! They are fun, undemanding and improve your diet.

    3. Someone I know built their own chicken coop and it looks nothing like this, and it is much bigger. They had to bury chicken-wire into the ground to keep the critters out etc. I just looked to see the dimensions, because the Anthro one looks very small. It is 39" across, 45" high, 108" wide (but the interior must be 39"x45", with a peaked roof, seems cramped). Read the only comment left so far, it is apparently big enough for the chickens to spread out and for the commenter's 2 year old lol!!! That kid must really love chickens, because... Yuck!

    4. Oh that is too funny! My grandparents had chickens - loved them. Every house we were at in the Netherlands had either a chicken coop or a cow in the backyard!

    1. Thanks GF, see comment above - won't the chickens make me seem exotically European? ;-)

  7. That had to be a yolk, I mean joke; my 3 hens would not be comfortable in that strange little thang. Someone find us some oxfords ( I am not a good hunter).

  8. OMG - $3K for chickens???
Love the oxfords - already gone in my size - I've been pondering them too :-)
There are lots of cute shoes on the Anthro site. These are so cute for maxi dresses, http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shoes-new/26013664.jsp. I like these too, http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shoes-new/26489187.jsp. Menswear inspired in pink :-)

  9. WMM, EGG-OK with the chicken keeping and fresh, well-fed sunshine yellow yolks(even hotel roofs are adding coops). Like handbag dogs, it's the impractical upmarketing spend and designer tat that niggles me.

  10. Last year I kept reading about a heavy plastic egg-shaped chicken house for use on urban terraces. Havent any of these people ever smelled a chicken coop close up?

Your tributes to Mr. WMM continue to amaze. Do I detect a hidden agenda here (like another trip to Paris)? OK, you don't have to answer that.
