Saturday Fashion: Colour Palate Cleanser

Happy Saturday - or as I like to call it, the Day when I will have as big a head of hair as I last had in the 80s.... In looking at pictures from the era, I have come to realize that they didn't care if there was colour everywhere on the face - dark eyes, darl lips and dark cheeks!  Should be fun!

Today is indeed party day, but it is early morning, so no decorations or costumes yet!  Playlist is ready, and just hope my legs hold out.  And since I hope to post a lot of photos tomorrow (don't look for them early!), I thought we could use something calmer, something more neutral today.

This morning I did an online visit to one of my favourite Canadian Design Houses, Judith and Charles. I have several of their pieces and they are of impeccable quality and impeccably cut.  I thought I would see whether they had their spring 2013 lookbook up yet, they did, and it did not disappoint!  And for my non-Canadian Friends, or Canadian folks like me that live in the middle of nowhere, you are able to call them to place an order online.  You can get all of the information you need, as well as see the full Lookbook, by visiting their website here.

But here is why it caught my eye: very simple silhouettes and a simple colour palette for Spring:  My personal favourites:

The Celeste Dress in navy.  I am not sure of the length, but based on other Judith and Charles dresses they would hit me mid-knee.  And while i am short, I have long legs, so if you are interested you would have to ask.  I just find this simple, but with a bit of pattern to liven it up.

A red suit.  Now, I don't need a red suit, but I might be interested in a red jacket.  The quality of their suiting material rivals Theory.  I find this so sleek looking.  There is a matching sheath dress that would look divine as well - very Nancy Reagan, for those of you who want to redo the 80s!

The Dizzy Dress.  I think this would look exquisite with a white or black jacket and a coloured shoe!

How about pairing it with the Viera jacket below?  I can't wear that style, but I know others who do so very well!

I am not personally so keen on these trousers, but the blouse is gorgeous!

When I saw this outfit below, I immediately thought of you Ema:

And finally I really love this top and skirt.  If I bought it I might look like I have hips!

And I don't know where these shoes are from, but I am starting to look for them immediatelty!  How cool are they?

What struck me about these looks is that they look very current but also timeless all at the same time.  I don't think you would get sick of these items anytime soon,.

As you know, I love colour as much or more than the next girl (okay I bow down to Rynetta for sure on the colour love - she could whoop my butt on that one!) but I would like to be somewhat more judicicous in its use for myself this year.  Or at least have a few more neutral fashion days.

Now the website does not list fabric or prices, you have to call the 1-800# for that, but based on my previous experience, you can assume wools, cotton, silk, and maybe the odd rayon, but I don't think so.  I really do attest to the quality.  There are shops in  the major cities in Canada as well as NYC.  I am going to call this week and see if my local shop is getting any of these pieces in this Spring and save my pennies for a dress!

So what do you think?  Do you like these clothes?  Are you, like me, happy to see some simpler palettes?

Have a great day - I will be busy, since as you know, I love the Nightlife, I've got to Boogie...

And still, no one will lend me a white horse....

Stay Safe Out There!!

  1. These clothes are nice, but I'm not in the mood for a palette cleanser. The Christmas tree is gone, the knick-knacks put away, my More is More is gone and I miss it. It is gray and damp outside. Bring on the color and fun stuff, I say! :-) No quiet refinement!! I have a feeling your Studio 54 party outfits will be more my speed today, a good cure for the January blahs.

    1. Cate - you want colour? Tomorrow you will have glitter and colour to your heart's content! And do not worry - I am not about to become the queen of black and white - inherently, I am a dreadful magpie! But I do like some plain outfits now and then! And I am thinking of painting family room pale pink (to horror of teen son!)

  2. I like the look of some of these; I do gravitate to simple clothes, quieter colors. BUT, not for you, not for today. Have a ball at your own private disco!

  3. FANCY NANCY This is quite the departure for you WMM. But a change is a good as a rest ;-) My non-chest and I really like the second outfit, might actually make me look (relatively) long-legged. There was a red jacket I liked at Zara (our Kate wore it during Olympics) to re-visit that '80s trend, but never popped up at my TO store, so spared that spend, flashback.

Will be thinking of you at your (night)club tonight and imagining attendance of Diana Ross, Richard Gere, Lauren Hutton, Calvin Klein, Brooke Shields - and of course, Andy in the VIP Lounge. GET DOWN!

    1. I think one out woof these pieces would be nice simple departure. Is fun to have simple in the mix, too. I remember Kate's jacket - she looked grand in it and for sure one of the bloggers (can't recall who right now) snapped it up and looked great init!

      Getting all set!

  4. That red suit is beautifully cut! And the jacket looks like it would work well with, say, a straight-cut grey skirt.

ok, now go lie down with something cool and lovely on your eyes so they'll be ready to stand up to 80's makeup!

have a lovely time tonight, will be thinking of you and looking forward to reports.

  5. Hi WMM, thanks for the link to Judith and Charles. I've seen the stores in Ottawa and Toronto - I do love the style, just not for my lifestyle unfortunately.

Have lots of fun tonight - can't wait to see the photos tomorrow! What a hoot it will be!

  6. I love Judith and Charles and I still have a pair of black pants when they were called Teenflo. The quality of the fabric is unbeatable. I wish you could purchase it online. Have fun tonight and we'll be waiting for the fuzzy report tomorrow.

  7. I do love these colors, since I am not much of a 'color' person myself, and gravitate more toward neutrals. That being said, I do own the red Zara jacket that GetFresh mentioned above and really like it (even though it is a brighter red than the suit you featured). The cut is ultra-feminine and flattering, plus I love the added detail on the shoulders. Sparrows & Sparkles reviewed it a while back, and it looks beautiful on her.

I hope you have a fabulous time tonight, and cannot wait to see your party pictures tomorrow! :)

    1. Sparrows and sparkles - now I remember! Can't recall if we saw you in yours? I like Zara - have only been Ina couple of times so not very familiar!

      Thanks for great wishes!

    2. No, I haven't posted pics of me in it...as you can tell, I am really bad about remembering to snap photos of my outfits. That is something I'm going to try to get better at this year. :)

    3. well I am finding it harder now that I am not going to work, so can understand completely! And you are so busy!

  8. Call customer service and ask them for the style and brand of shoe you are seeking, they can likely help you out.

I mentioned in your other post but will repeat here for others who may be interested. I saw the Patridge Family dress at KS today. It is 100% viscose with 100% poly lining. The killer though, was the huge black plastic zipper up the back. If the colorblocked print doesn't date it in a hurry, that zipper surely will. It seamed to really cheapen it IMO. A nice invisible zipper would have made the dress much more ladylike.

I hope you have a wonderful time at your party tonight. Live it up!

    1. Oh xoxo, isn't that disappointing! I could not wear a viscose with a poly lining. That would be so uncomfortable! I did not read the details - I assumed for $400, it would be silk!

  9. Don't we all sometimes forget that there are other stores out there besides the crew! Have fun tonight and don't forget to take photos before everyone gets there and the food, beverages, and the decorations (not to mention your hair and makeup ) are a wreak.
