Shoes, Glorious Shoes!!!

"Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I've got a few missing. It's ok though, because I've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal."  John Mayer (he of the smallish ego)

Now, while John Mayer - bad/cad/hasn't learned that some truths ought to be just left in your head musician- is talking about how he is so much more special than most of the girls he meets (!), I can definitely say that I do have some more vibrants colours like periwinkle at my disposal, because

THEY ARE HERE!!!!

Yes, beloved pals, my Collection jeweled T-strap ballet flats arrived today!!!

Collection jeweled T-strap ballet flats
get your peri twinkle toes here
I wanted to get my review up ASAP, given the sale and that these puppies would be 30% off!

Do I love them?

Does John Mayer like a nice blonde?  Does Coco love Ice? (I don't know actually, but given the name of the show I assume yes!)  Does Santa Love Rudolph (well actually, I think it is an abusive relationship that never quites get resolved...), but I digress...

YES!!!  I love them!

Okay, so first I ran right up and put them on with my playclothes - my saturday pants, my jackie vest and my dream cardigan.  I think this high/low look is something that Jenna and Gayle would so embrace!!!  You wait, tomorrow, the description will read:

"We're loving these periwinkle fairy shoes so much, w're pairing them with our laidback saturday pants for a sweaty-sparkly combination.  Perfect for watching your dog have a drink or wearing out for drink Mickey after a hard day at the office!"

And then a closer look:

I know.  You are asking yourself: "If I recall, she took ballet lessons for 8 saturdays over the hardware store in 1972."  You would be correct and I believe that this shot shows how much I have retained and blows Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours theory right out the window..

And even closer....

Yes, a little toe cleavage and an awkward angle as I was stooped over taking this photo!  They are a size 6.5 and fit perfectly. You could wear tights I guess if you want to and I might try them with grey tights, but mostly I will barefoot it!

They are well worth the wait and I love, love, love them!  So much better than the zebra shoes!!!

I recommend them if you are the kind of person who likes to sparkle, loves blue and is looking for a "different" party shoe (hello Tiffany Rose...)  Rynetta - you might really like these as well as I know you love your ballets!  Julie - size up half a size for comfort!

Changing the subject dramatically, a wee note about my outfit today!

My ill-fated Banana Republic cranberry concoctions are gone, but I dug through my closet and found two old Talbots pieces, a full silky skirt and a raspberry red cashmere audrey sweater from a couple of years back.  I don't wear them much and I am not sure either are flattering.  That is a sign, isn't it.

This picture is terrible, but I am showing it as I want to show you something else... (how convoluted is that?  stay with me!)

You can't really see it, but I am wearing an old poinsettia pin of my mum's which I love:

It is about 60 years old and I love it!!!  I will wear it a lot this month as i love the craftsmanship and it makes me think happy thoughts of christmases with my mum when she was alive!  Do you have any nice christmas pins you love to wear?

Since it will be Friday soon, I think this is about the time I need to consider Miller Time.  Dani went shopping in Toronto on Thursday - I hope she got lots and I hope she stocked the larder before everyone gets there!  You know what I will be bringing - yup - peppermint kahlua and periwinkle fairy shoes!!!  Dig out the Brenda Lee Dani, we will be rockin' around the Christmas tree!!!

Have an awesome Friday and stay safe out there!

  1. WMM, that sweater IS flattering! It looks like a Tippi really (though if I remember correctly, I think the audreys have a bateau neck, yes?) I adore your mum's pin, it is just darling! Now on to the skirt. You can take or leave my advice, but since I only wear full skirts I have developed a trick or two :) I usually tuck to help my waistline definition, and also try to not wear anything longer than knee length unless I am wearing sky high pumps. If you tuck and get the skirt hemmed a bit, I think it could be amazing! Ok, unsolicited feedback over.

    1. Thanks! I agree - skirt too long for sure! I will try tucking in on this one and see if I like any better!

It is sort of Tippi like! I think it is actually better quality! I will try and dig it out more!

  2. Oh WMM, they are so pretty!! Definitely an indoors-only shoe for now, but I think they will bring you lots of joy. Your mum's pin is lovely; no, I don't have any Christmas baubles at all.
I hope Dani had a lovely time in Toronto - I'm dying to go to the Christmas market in the Distillery District, but not sure if we'll have time this weekend.

    1. Patricia we went to the Distillery District and it was lovely. Very Christmas and lots of good snacks to be found. Great place to just walk around and look at ornaments!

    2. They are just as presented, which is such a rarity for me and J Crew these days!! I am trying to resist the markets for ornaments. When you see my tree up you will understand and undertake an intervention, but it will be for naught, as I am unrepentent!! :-) Dani - so happy you had a grand day!

  3. They are so pretty and once again I am laughing all by myself here reading this post. If I get sent to the loony bin I'll be shouting "it was Wendy!"

You'd approve of the things I bought on my shopping trip: 3 cornish hens and a jar of duck fat. I know what could be better.
We had a great time out and I wish you had been there!

Your Christmas pin is very special. It looks like a lovely enamel, very unique and so pretty, love it with the sweater. How special that your Mum wore it!
Yes Miller Time I'm ready! Have a great Friday.

    1. Oh Dani - you are making me sing:

On the 19th day before christimas Dani bought for me:

Three Cornish Hens, 2 Kate Spade Dresses and a jar of duck fat!

I am all giddy. Blame the shoes. It is always the shoes' fault. I am hoping we are cooking the cornish hens tonight??

  4. Those shoes are keepers!! So cute, and they make you so happy. I hope I am not overstepping (shoe pun) with this suggestion, but I think you should consider letting these blue beauties at least co-chair the Club Shoe position. It's possible they have magical powers.

Also, we can be pinpals! I have a few fabulous Christmas pins from my mom. I wish I knew where she got them and how old they are (probably not as old as 60 years, although I suppose one of them could be nearly). I love the color of your red Audrey sweater and it looks awesome with the pin.

    1. Oh Care! I would love to be your pinpal! (remind me to tell you sometime about Barry's most unfortunate incident in grade school with a female penpal...)

I am now collecting pins for the holidays and they make me happy!!

I think you are right abou the shoes also getting pride of place, especially since I am almost 100% Mickey lurks here and might feel happy to actually see JC product that is a keeper on the blog (BTW - seriously kidding about the lurking! If Mickey was here, by god we would know it!)

  5. Are we having the same life? I too got a box and it will be shoes shoes shoes for a few days, shhh ... don't tell husby. I love the sparklies on your feet and can I be the first to start the campaign with Mickey to have you replace the CFS? While you both have great imaginations for making up stuff, you are vastly entertaining and she is not.

I love old jewelry and something from your mum is so very special. It is lovely on the sweater.

    1. OH Tiffany Rose, can you believe it????? Have you bought the turquise pants yet? I am dying to buy those!!!! Holding self back... I will not mention it to your husband. My husband took all the photos and just kind of shrugged. He knows about the sparkles! I think that Fred and I could alternate rollouts!!!

Thanks about the pin. I love enamelware and this one is so lovely!

Have a great day - can't wait to see the shoes on you!

    2. Which turquoise pants? Are they crazy pants, maybe the etched plaid? Don't tell Mickey but the box of shoes are not from JC. It was hard to have husby not notice because they came in a giant box meant to hold a lot more.

Oh and I immediately thought of you when I got my black silk tie pants, did you get them? From what I can see, they are gorgeous!

    1. Hi Ina! By all means, dig! I think December is the best month to be nostalgic and so long as you are not wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, people let you get away with a lot! :-)

  7. lol@ Does Coco love Ice?

The shoes are divine. I like them very much. I can tell the pin is of yesteryear quality. What a great memory to wear on your heart.

The Christmas pin of your mum's is so lovely! What a wonderful piece to treasure and remember her by! I do not own any Christmas pins myself, but do have a couple of flower pins that I wear in the spring.

Btw, I linked to your review of the storyteller scarf on my post today...hope you don't mind!

  10. Friday, Friday WMM. I just noticed we same-size shoe friends. While I am thirty-percenting something slightly more practical, like the Aggie ankle boots (painful agony?) I do <3 your blue suede slippers. And I think they deserve an Elvis style dance, not hardware ballet plies. That pin is red-letter wonderful, for the style, spirit and memories. (I like brooches on a jacket pocket or a dress sash, but require lots of vintage digging.)
Will be over for the tree-vention (I'll just be ogling all your ornaments and bar car cheer) right after joining everyone for Miller Time. Turn up the carols and let's dance (Charlie Brown Christmas style).

    1. OT, but meant to let you know after my grouse that second Emmaleigh dress a success. Get this, it is just above the knees on 5'2" me. However, the replacement buffalo plaid shirt from Mickey & Co. also started to disintegrate on third washing. Extra glad your prize shoes are a decently made dream!

    2. Oh you may have just hit the jackpot! I have some heels only worn once or twice that I cannot walk in (old lady feet!) - I will send you pics and if you want them they are yours!!!

Sorry about your clothes issues - that, to put is succinctly, sucks!

Oh - I do a mean Charlie Brown Christmas dance! Seriously (as if you would doubt me!)

    2. WMM, with Lane and Cate. Today I think you actually are our Puck, cheerleader, and jig dance captain sprite all rolled into one sparkly wonderfulness. If you wear those shoes to bed tonight the tooth fairy will surely stop by - because she'll want to swipe 'em, or at least bask in their happy glow. And I wasn't hinting about the heels, at all. But would joyously take any new friends clicking around T.O. Do you know that scene in Devil Wears Prada (both book and film) where they talk about the "clackers"? Just find me a shiny downtown corridor and off I go. BTW, every time I see an Anne H. Les Mis promo these days guess who I think of?

    3. GF - I am almost SICK with anticipation! I am so worried that as soon as she starts singing the big number, I will stand up and sing along with her! I had to go to a school event today and they had kids singing 'Tomorrow" from Annie and I was DYING to get up, just dying.... I think it is some kind of odd gene that I have - I have waited my whole life for the world to become a musical!!!

    4. I was just telling Ms. Poppy Buttons about the annual Sound of Music screenings where everyone dresses up and sings along. (We were having a Favourite Things moment at Bay's holiday windows.) Now you'll have to come up for the show too.
