Random Happy Thursday Thoughts

Oh Happy Day!!!!!

I got home late today as work was a bear, put on my jammies (after eating a bowl of cereal for supper - any of the rest of you do that?) and guess what???

I now have 50 followers!!!  Well knock me over and say boy howdy!  I never thought I would have one follower (well I was pretty sure Dani and Tabitha would follow me as I asked them pathetically to do so...) so imagine my surprise that you all just keep showing up and some other people keep stumbling upon Nigel and I as well!!!  So thank you number 49 and 50!!  You are most welcome here and I am blowing you kisses!  (and you all thought I would become snobby with my success!!!  Au contraire - my gratitude and chattering knows no bounds!)

In honour of this momentous occasion, I have decided to offer a random list of things that are making me smile these days and would love to know what you are loving as well!!!

These are in no order, but they are making me happy:

KahlĂșa Peppermint mocha

peppermint mocho Kahlua!!!

This is a limited edition item.  The label is so pretty!!  I think you could drink it whilst wearing this peppermint concoction from Madewell:

Laid-Back Tee in Stripe
The Madewell Laid-Back Tee and Disco Shorts here
Well you know I had to buy it!  No - not the outfit!  I know some of you really like my legs, but trust me, that would not be pretty!  The Kahlua!  I am imagining sipping it by the tree or pouring it over the ice cream I plan to eat in solidarity with the melting ice caps.

For those of you with wrapping genes, can't you imagine wrapping the bottle up and tying candy canes and holly to it?  How fun!

Dave Brubeck

Dave sadly died today, one day shy of his 92nd birthday.  But Dave basically lived for 92 wonderful years and he made some of my most favourite music and I gotta be happy about that!  He was always smiling when he performed.  Sadly, I never got to see Dave perform in real life, but one of my best buddies did a couple of years ago when Dave was 90 and said he was amazing!

If for some reason you are not familiar with Dave, download his seminal CD, Take Five, pour yourself something smooth (I will even open my new Kahlus and share it with you!), and enjoy....

This is one of the CDs I am taking with me to the desert island, so that the husband and I and george and nigel can have some good music!  Wouldn't THAT be a dance party!

The Kennedy Center Honors

Oh, I know it won't air until December 26th, but I was tickled pink that David Letterman, Led Zeppelin, Buddy Guy, and Dustin Hoffman and Natalia Makarov were all honoured by President Obama.

David Letterman and Dustin Hoffman were among those honored by President Obama on Sunday for their contributions to American culture through the performing arts.

  • David Letterman still cracks me up
  • I would like to do a poll about how many people necked while slow dancing to "Stairway to Heaven" in junior or senior high school or how many boys only know how to play this on their guitar
  • Buddy Guy is WAY cool
  • Natalia Makarova personifies elegance
  • Dustin Hoffman is one of my favourites.  I could still cry thinking of "Kramer versus Kramer" and since I have had so many instances of feeling like Dustin as Tootsie when modelling outfits for you all, I can attest to his bravery.
I will be taping this show on the 26th and absolutely savouring it!

So that is my happiness list for the week!!!  Thank you all again for the wonderful advice yesterday about the new outfit!  It was so appreciated!  You guys are awesome and back the red delicious went.  I am more Honey Crisp anyway....

Happy Day and Stay Safe out There!

  3. I know someone who would love that CD as a gift, thanks! You've helped me with my Christmas shopping, which makes me happy too. I'll bet you have many more than 50 readers (I can't be the only one who doesn't do the Following thing?). Congratulations on the milestone!

    1. Anonymous, that is awfully kind, but I can assure you, I am NOT cool, LOL! If you look up a definition of middle aged woman who is kind of goofy, you will see my picture! Not that I mind that I am goofy, and boys I think I am getting goofier. Maybe you eventually get so goofy that you become cool? My God! AM I becoming Little Edie??? Intervention please!!!

  5. Hi WMM, I think I'm your 51st follower now! Very sad about Dave Brubeck, my husband told me today that he has the original Take Five album on vinyl!

  6. Oh my gosh I thought I was following and went to check and wasn't on the list. So I'm #52. I remember I did the same with Tabitha and she helped me out as I thought if I made a comment that I was a follower. Is there any hope for me?
    Bravo !

  7. I used to make homemade kahlua (or coffee liquor) as Christmas gifts, I'd give you some if you were my neighbor. Take Five is one of my most favorite pieces of music, in fact, I started to respect my brother's taste in music when he introduced it to me. And yep, I eat cereal for dinner, just did it two nights ago. ;)

    1. Tiffany Rose, I would drink that kahlua! I will toast you when I open this bottle! What is the temperature there these days? We have had some unseasonably warm temperatures lately, but I see we are back down to -1 this am!

I think that Take 5 is up in the pantheon of the greatest pieces of music ever - right there with Back and Baeethoven and Mozart!

  8. I'm #50! And now, off to enjoy my well-earned fame. I've never been "featured" on a blog before (well, other than mine, that is). Blowing kisses your way, and thanking you for the daily entertainment. XO,

    1. Aww thanks AB! Well hold on, because I pretty much feature everyone here. This is a great (not in size but in wonderfulness) group of amazing folks who pop over. I just sometimes start the conversation and they always finish it! They are all so smart and kind you will love them - I bet you follow many of them in their own wonderful blogs! I am so glad you are #50 - as you know, I am hurtling to that number at a startling speed!!

    1. Tabs - you will love it - I promise! I think you will have send Hubs out for some of the kahlua - surely it is in your neck of the woods, too!

  10. LAUGH-IN Oh WMM, I must go look for that Kahlua straight away (I have the original K. bottle that looks like a Mexican god). The DH is with you on Dave B., he worked with him several times at the Barbican and said choirs (kids), conductors etc. all loved him, which is a good and rather uncommon sign. And cereal, omelets or pancakes (basically anything easy breakfast for dinner) is so comforting when you just...can't...think.
Hmm, what's making me happy today? Meantime have an excellent one and hope works calms down to a cub.

  11. Stairway to Heaven-- count me in. My daughter's middle school was still playing that for the last dance. Funny memories.

If I get home after 8 or so my appetite plummets and commonly it's cereal. I like the Canadian (!) company Natures Path-- Heritage Flakes and Smart Bran, all nonGMO and organic.

Have a great less hectic Thursday!

      have an awesome one Lane!

  13. Your blog is very entertaining Wendy, I'm sure you will have many more followers before long. I am following but it shows up as D James (Modigliani portrait) and not xoxo. I added you to my blogroll too. I hadn't updated it in quite a while and was typing your blog name into the browser every day. It's amazing how I can exert more effort in one way in order to stay lazy in another.

In college I had Mini Wheats for dinner quite often, simply because I liked them so much. The Madewell tee looks like a candy cane but gosh, the flavored Kahlua is definitely a no-go for me!

    1. Hey xoxo! Now I am feeling slightly embarassed as I suddenly have a lot of followers (blushes!) Darn I was just so tickled! i don't read my viewer stats! I just like you all and whoever shows up shows up, and as I have always said, 10 people is a great number to me!!

I love mini wheats. Guilty pleasure!!!!!

What liqueur flavours do you like???

    2. oh and PPS - and this is not a word of lie... I get to my own blog through Dani's....I think I may have a technical gltch in my brain! Dani can never stop blogging! How will I find myself????

    3. I have my blog bookmarked but most of the time I have it open so I can see who has a new post on my blogroll. If you use Chrome you just have to start typing the name into the address and it will "auto complete" for you. So really, I wasn't typing your whole blog name each time, just the first few letters.

I much prefer salty over sweet but Bailey's in hot chocolate can be nice and Jagermeister goes well with outdoor sports.

  14. I'm a huge Letterman fan and was thrilled that he received such an impressive honor. BTW-I'm not sure I needed to know about the Kahlua goodness...OMG-must try. It will be the perfect gift for my SiL.

  15. Happy Thursday WMM, and congratulations on 50+ followers! I am not surprised, however, as your blog is always such a treat to visit! :)

I absolutely love breakfast dinners, and so do my boys! One of their favorites is pancakes for dinner, but they are also equally thrilled by a bowl of cereal, especially since it rarely happens that they get one. ;)

Enjoy the rest of your day!

BTW - the peri shoes are in! Pics to come soon!!!!

  16. Oh the shoes, WMM, the shoes! Things that made me happy today. Visits from people you don't get to see often enough, wine (just one glass) at lunch, the enthusiasm of 10-year-olds, blue sky and time to enjoy it, the plethora of Christmas trees I can spot in condo towners now...still going...plus that lovely, smiley compliment from you. If you don't get it sorted soon, when I come to visit I will be begging to sort your blog favourites, log-in etc.. Un-Martha is slightly fixated on 'net shortcuts, but only because of my DH and workplace techies, otherwise I would be totally like xoxo, except far worse.

  17. Hi FMM, thanks for posting about Dave Brubeck very sad news. My Dad was a huge fan and about 4 years ago I was at a retirement party that Mr. Brubeck was a guest. I so wanted to get his autograph for my Dad but knew that it was so inappropriate. Luckily the guy who was retiring offered to do it for me later on. I was able to get a CD of Dave Brubeck and he signed it personally to my Dad. Unfortunately around the same time my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers' but really appreciated the framed CD jacket, before the disease started to take over. My Dad passed away 2 years ago but I now have it and it reminds me of my Dad and Mr. Brubeck.
