Pagoda Blue Thursday

Sorry i have been pretty much incommunicado for the last couple of days.  We had quite the storm here and we lost our power for 24 hours.  It was cold and miserable, but I couldn't complain - I kept thinking of all of the poor folks who lost their houses and power during Sandy and it certainly provided perspective!

Happily it is now Thursday and I start some well-deserved vacation time!  Tomorrow, I will finish my Christmas shopping and wrapping.  I also hope to get some grocery shopping in as well and begin some baking!  Oh, and did I mention that my daughter is having a bunch of people over for dinner tomorrow night?  and so begins the happy christmas season!

All of these J Crew sales have been quite amazing in the last two weeks.  As you know, I purchased the cashmere tshirt in pagoda blue earlier this fall.  I really loved the colour.  Recently, the cardigan went on sale, and then further on sale and then 30% off that then $25 in rewards $ of that.

Collection cashmere crewneck cardigan

Suddenly it was very inexpensive and given that it is now cold and snowy, a twin set seemed to be in order!

Yesterday morning I paired it with a marc cain knit skirt I purchased last year.  This is a very comfortable skirt and quite flattering in my opinion.

I am glad I purchased the cardigan as I think it will be very versatile and frankly, more so than simply the tshirt alone.  sorry the picture is not better.

How are your preparations for Christmas coming?  Are you feeling ready, or like me, are you feeling slightly behind schedule and hoping for some divine inspiration?

Have a great evening!  More tomorrow!

  2. Love that color. I scored a cashmere tee in the same shade for a bargain; handed to hubby to wrap for x-mas :-)

  3. I am ready for Christmas. I need the weather to hold one more day. Daughter has a final in the morning and then we will all be safe and sound at home. I do feel for all those who are traveling.

    1. I hope she does well! I do always worry about the travellers! Driving home last night was so treacherous and I was awfully glad I was only going 10 miles!

  4. That is your color! Looks great! I am way behind, I have not wrapped a single thing, aside from the gifts I had to mail. I haven't shopped for food or menu planned. Fortunately the Whos down in Whoville know that it's going to be okay if I don't do it all :-) Today I wore my J. Crew Factory black cashmere cardigan. I pinned a sunburst peridot brooch on it and I thought it looked really nice. I also got the gray cardigan from Factory in the same size but it was itty bitty on me, not the same size at all, back it went. Now I'm tempted by the Pagoda Blue, it really does look nice!

    1. Cate, I really like the colour! I hate it when sizing is different! It can be such a pain to mail back!

I am like you - I don't mind if all is not perfect!

    2. Ps - I love the sound of the black cashmere and brooch! I certainly love mine and you have I spired me to sparkle it up!

  5. You are a vision in blue. The Pagoda Blue is a gorgeous color and a twinset is so versatile. I predict that you'll get miles of wear from those pieces. Nice to see someone else who loves marc cain. I have a blue knit merino skirt that is really nice. Great quality too.

I am ready for Christmas. I will be helping MIL with the dinner so a few things yet to make ahead and then the big meal but I love to cook so happy to do it. Besides, it keeps me away from the drama in the rest of the house. We have an intimate party to attend this weekend. It's a yearly event and always relaxing and fun. Almost like a sigh of relief before the big day.

    1. I agree - marc Cain is a great label!

I like to cook as well, especially when not rushed! I will wrap tomorrow and ensure I have it all! Our Christmas will be pretty quiet this year, but given all the drama and sadness of the fall, will be very glad!

  6. Hi WMM! I love the pagoda blue sweaters on you. Very flattering color! It looks similar to that brocade blue blythe. Are the colors very different?

I am pretty much ready, I just made two different types of cookie dough and will bake those.... at some point this weekend! Presents are all bought, but not all wrapped. We will be traveling Christmas eve so I better get on it! If you're looking for some delicious cookie recipes, here are the ones I just made:

Brown Butter Snickerdoodles (about 10 levels about a normal snickerdoodle!) and

Big soft ginger cookies! These are awesome. Both doughs should be made ahead and refrigerated for at least 8 hours. My kind of cookies. I get overwhelmed if I have to make the dough and bake them all at the same time! Good luck getting your final Christmas preparations ready!

    2. Oh my gosh - you had me at snicker doodle! These look amazing and I am definitely getting the ingredients for those! Thanks!

The brocade and pagoda are Very different from one another. For me

      Byzantine blue - royal blue
Pagoda - is like a turquoise blue, almost like a gorgeous turquoise sea on a bright sunny day
Brocade Is much darker, and is as if pagoda blue and Byzantine blue had s love child. It is honestly my favourite of the three. I bought the Tippi cardigan and Blythe in this at super sale.

Colour is the one area where jcrew blows other retailers out of the water, IMO.

This and the violet blues are my favourite, I love navy, as it is so classic, but honestly, the colours above are so special!

    3. LOL at your color descriptions! J.Crew's colors are the #1 reason why I can't stay away and will never break up with them, no matter how many pills appear on my cashmere sweaters!

  7. WOW! You look amazing in that outfit! The skirt is such a good length and shape on you, and the color looks perfect with your complexion. I think that we've unanimously decided that blue is your color :-)

  8. Aaaaaaaand I meant to ask, does the cardigan look like it will pill? I've been eyeing some of that cashmere but given what I've read over at JCA, I do not dare.

    1. Hi! Thanks so much for the compliment! I have finally concurred that I should typically have the blues! I find they pill a bit, but so do my other sweaters from jcrew. Even the merino tippis. I need to get a much- heralded brora for comparison. The only sweater I own that does not pill ever is mt my mother's angora from 1962! However, I have found my piece with pilling (honestly it could just be a coping mechanism!) and am willing to comb if it means gorgeous hues!

  9. Oh that colour is amazing, what on earth do I not own any blue? We haven't had any percentages off for about a month so I've missed the boat! Ugh yes big shop tomorrow morning at 7.30am, then Sunday will be spent running out for everything I forgot, then baking on Monday.

    1. You know, our online friends have absolutely made me see the light on the blues! Everywhere I went yesterday, I received compliment after compliment, I would like to say it started to get embarrassing, but who am I kidding! I was in my glory! Glad I am not only last minute hound! I am kind of hoping my pass- a-long arrives sooner than New Years for you! Btw - they gave me the option to ship entirely by surface, which meant by sea (well duh, wendy obviously..). Anyway, I asked if I could pick a really nice ship, but they said no. Too bad - there is something very romantic about a package going by a ship and seeing the world.... I think I am too old-fashioned!

    2. ROMANTIC ON THE SURFACE Wendy, based on lots of NS/ Edinburgh experience, regular (no tracking) airmail almost always on doorstep in 6 business days. But if there is a holiday backlog with flights, packages can get pushed back this end 1-4 days. Usually the smaller, lighter the parcel, the more likely your are to make the 5 workdays to arrival window.

    3. GF - I have decided that you know EVERYTHING! My head is only full of useless information like who played who in some obscure 60s sitcom..

  10. You look BLUE-tiful. Will now be copycatting and wearing my blue Tippi, easy skirt shortly. Glad you are back on fairy lights. Last mad dash of deliveries and practical duties today before blowing this popsicle stand for a week...

  11. Love you in blue! I also took advantage of the sale and got the Pagoda cashmere Tippi; I got the voile popover in this color for Florida. Turquoise looks good on more people than any other color, I think

I hope your storms are over for now and that you have a lovely holiday weekend.
