The beginnings of a fall uniform

I could talk about George, but well, the wounds are too fresh.

In these kinds of situations, it is best to wish the object of one's desire well, move on and then wait patiently for him to tire of the incredibly leggy, brainy, beautiful woman he's wed.

George and Amal head out as man and wife

I await the wedding photos...

Ah, but speaking of leggy femme fatales, I have been a busy bee - all of my closets are cleaned out.

I am washing all of my cashmere again and washing my summer things before they are packed away.

And I am beginning to wear (though not THIS weekend - this weekend was 80 degrees),  my fall wardrobe:

One of the happiest, and least expensive purchases for this Fall was actually purchased in August from Banana Republic, which is always running excellent on line sales and free returns in Canada, which I can tell you is a very big deal!

So Friday morning it was cool and I met a friend for coffee.  I paired my new sloane ankle zip pants from BR (so soft!) with a black tshirt and an old H&M moto jacket.

I know - biker chick for coffee?  But so comfy and then I whipped off the jacket once it got warmer and I was Beatnik chick!

I wore the harper ballet flats again from J Crew.  These are truly amazing and so comfortable!

This, or a variation thereof, is the theme of my fall.  I am back into leggings, tunics, drapey cardigans, boots, the odd jean.  Whilst I still love colour and the odd dress, I am not really feeling it this fall.  What I am feeling is comfort and timeless and simple.

And I admit, I am loving the new look over at BR - you can feel Marissa's influence already:

I did find a nice treat at Target the other day that I thought I should share.

Sonia Kashuk is celebrating her 15th anniversary and has released a lovely limited edition compact with 5 delicious shades of red:

Sonia Kashuk® Limited Edition Celebrating a Powerful Pout - The Fall Lip Palette
There is a red here for everyone.  I am firmly convinced that a bad day can be fixed with the right shade of lipstick and have been trying every colour since I bought it a few days ago.

Oh and here's a question for you domestic divas: I pulled out a JC Cashmere pullover from storage, washed it and it has a FUNKY odour.  I then washed it again - same thing.  All of my other cashmere is fine and all was put away laundered.  Any ideas for getting rid of the odour??????

Hope you are having a great Sunday - stay safe out there!
xoxo wendy

  4. I am stumped by this cashmere problem, what kind of funky smell? Like stinky feet or is it chemical? That's weird. I wonder if the processing odours are for some reason off-gassing at a later stage. MrBP just said or is it mildew, hey he has a good point, any chance it was a bit damp when you put it away?
We need to get to the bottom of it. In the meantime I'd wash it again and add some Borax to your wash along with your cashmere shampoo, Borax is natural and won't hurt the cashmere as far as I know.
Love your look for fall it is excellent. :)

  5. So he actually went through with it? I'm so sorry to hear that...I was still holding out hope for you that the wedding plans would fall through. Chin up, my dear...at least you look fabulous in your biker chick look, AND you have amazing shoes! :)

  6. Very cute look. And that lippy palette looks great. I always wear the same true red but would like to play and that looks like a fun way to experiment a bit! No advice on the cashmere. Hopefully Dani's borax trick works.

  7. You look fab, chic, and classy all in one outfit, Wendy! How do you like the Sloan pants? I haven't worn mine yet. Been too warn to wear pants around here. Did you notice that they stretched out by the end of the day? You have me wanting those Harper flats! You look so chic in the shoes. Love the whole look!

    1. Wendy - I love them! I had also ordered the moto version, but they were hideous on me - looked more like snow pants! I really want another pair of Harpers - they may be my new dressy shoe!

  8. I thought of you when I saw George looking so debonair while in the water taxi. He is no Barry though. I hope this choice will last longer than the latest ladies who have caught his eye. You wear your new BR pants very well. It is very odd about only one cashmere not smelling as it should. I am not sure if it is still available but I used to add a few drops of a Lysol concentrate to the wash occasionally when the kids returned from sporting events. Not that Lysol is particularly fragrant, but it was better than the alternative. Of course cashmere is more delicate than soccer socks as well. Good luck and let us know if you find the solution.

  9. Re: sweater. Spread it out on newspaper, sprinkle generously with baking soda, both side. Cover with more newspaper, next day roll up the paper, take everything outside to shake out the sweater. If ok, wash, rinse, dry in sun if possible.

Re George - Barry must feel relieved.

  10. Is George starting to look Italian? Even MLane agrees he is v. handsome. Our condolences, my dear.

You look Mahvelous! What are those pants made of? I am mostly shopping my closet it seems, so lots of navy, grey and black with bright T's and sweaters.

I was handwashing my some cashmere yesterday and drying it on beach towels on the hot tub. So satisfying! I use Aveda Shampure which has a fresh herbal scent. Let us know if you try Fred's tip and how it works. Mystifying!

  11. I love br's sloan pants. Yours look adorable. I might need to check those out. I always wonder if the zippers will get caught on socks or something.
How is the book coming along? Can't wait to hear an update.

    1. A - I haven't worn them with socks yet, but I really think they will be fine. They are SOOOO much softer than the J Crew Minnies, which have a decidely sandpaper like quality, IMO! The book is in revisions, revisions and still no agent, but I am feeling very good about it all. It is a process, and I am trying to enjoy the process!

  16. Have been off travelling to see the boy. You, my dear, look simply marvelous. I do think you are ageing like a very fine wine...more glorious each day. I love the take that the bride is more the catch in the Clooney marriage. After all , she did marry "just" an actor. Plus, I would take Barry the man over George anyday.

    2. I think the sweater - the JC pullover in snow - may be dead to me.... I tried Fred's suggestion and Dani's, but no luck! Sigh.... Wonder what the issue is. It was dry when put away last spring and all others are fine. Sweater of the damned...
