Miler Time Friday: Ivory!

Today I decided to dig out two things I rarely wear - an ivory Talbots cashmere boyfriend cardigan and a similar coloured top from Monoprix in Paris that I picked up last summer.

I don't know why I don't wear ivory; I guess I think it washes me out unless I have on bright red lipstick, so that is what I did....

and I wore the leopard print kikis:

Yay or Nay on Ivory and Wendy?

I have been thinking about ivory hues lately, perhaps it was the lovely post that Jennifer did about decorating her house in soothing tones in her blog A Well Styled Life.  In her case it was white, and I can't be the only one who thought they could live happily in her bathroom:

sigh........

This afternoon I was out running errands and stopped in at our local Winners (equivalent of TJ Maxx) and drooled over the lovelies they are putting out for Christmas.  Four little items caught my eye - I thought they would look divine in my Paris-inspired kitchen or in the toile bathroom downstairs or else bunched together on the dining room table...

And I can't decide if this little fellow will be used as a decoration or a gift box.... Hmmmm

Ivory can be such a soothing colour and I chose it for the upper cupboards in my kitchen rather than pure white, as I felt it went better with the rest of my décor (which is mostly antiques and colour!)

I find myself pinning creamy hues all over the place these days on Pinterest:

I am even loving my food in creamy hues: cauliflower, turnip, squashes, parsnip...

Ah but to quote our Scarlett, tomorrow is another day and there will colours a-plenty!

Are you channelling your inner white light?

Until then, let's have a calming concoction, shall we?

How about an Andy's Ivory - a tad sweet perhaps, so put out the bowl of pretzels (no nuts for me!)

Ah - who am I kidding?  Baileys, on ice, for dessert tonight, folks!  Cheers and hope you have the happiest of Fridays!

  1. I vote yes for you in Ivory! It looks great with your red lipstick. Thanks for the nice comments about my white! Most of my other white decor is actually ivory or cream. It hides a multitude more sins and is more flattering on vintage faces and furniture :-D Plus there isn't a day that begins with "I" so I can't do an Ivory Day post. Your Christmas goodies are adorable! I saw a house all lit up with a Christmas lights tonight. Struck a small note of panic in my chest. So soon?? Must get my knitting going. xoJennifer

    1. I love that - vintage faces! We have a gallon on Benjamin Moore's calming cream that is waiting for Barry to get home and retouch the upper kitchen cabinets with! Really, the kitchen work goes on! I won't start really decorating for a week or two - here is it considered bad taste to decorate outside or in before Remembrance Day, which is Monday - maybe after the 20th of November or so? I am starting my paper white and amaryllis bulbs this weekend!

  3. Yes for ivory!! I think you look great with your outfit and the Leopard kikis add this "je-ne-sais-quoi" touch. I love the pictures you propose from pinterest... They all talk to me, but the one with the gist wrapping is my favourite. I don't wear ivory or white and even if I love white bed sheets and white towels in a bathroom I don't have many because I find it too difficult to keep them really white.

    1. Hi CSW - I think it is that without makeup (and by that I am really meaning lipstick) I look like the walking dead. But I did like yesterday so I think will try to wear it more! I've had it for 3 years and worn it 4 times! And the cashmere is actually quite lovely!

  5. Oh you know me on white and ivory, I think it just lights up the face, does cream suit you better? I don't look so good in cream.
That cake looks amazing, Christmas is going to come around so fast, I love December.

    1. I'm not sure which suits me better to be honest! I know I do not look good in a white blouse, but look fine in a white tshirt...for me it depends on the hue... some make me look sickly. I am so pale all year long and it can really wash me out. However, I find ivory and whites in winter incredibly chic, so must try some more!

  7. I think you look very fresh faced in ivory. Simple and almost calming to me. I am surprised it doesn't top a pair of fancy pants or a slim skirt. Have fun this weekend. We are off to Appalachia State to watch Em play in an ultimate frisbee tournament. Not sure what the hell we are getting in to but should be a memory at least.

  8. You look good in ivory! It's such a clean neutral and not as stark as white. My living room is ivory and dark wood as I'm a fan of Japanese interiors. Thanks for the inspiration. I think I have found my Christmas gift theme - plain ivory paper with navy ribbon and leaves as accents.

  9. Yes on Wendy and Ivory! You look great, and that cashmere looks so soft, so I suspect that your secret intention is to get lots of hugs :-)
I am also writing this weekend, but I need a new chair. Mine is making my back so so sore. That may be in our plans this weekend. No rest for the laborious, who chase completed manuscripts!

  10. You look beautiful in ivory and the leopard shoes are the perfect touch.Unfortunately the "living in bathroom" brought back bad memories, I was so ill last night I wished for death. But all better now, guess it was fast and furious. I saw white lights on a house right after Halloween, seems premature but white lights are generic and a jump on the holidays.

Back to white/ivory surroundings ... agree I could easily be a permanent and happy guest chez Jennifer's.

Ivory looks lovely and soft on you. Maybe some ivory cashmere or a gaelic natural sweater is in your future.

  13. Hi Wendy, I really like the ivory on you - it does make you glow. Your post today has lots of lovely calming images, although when I think about what they mean, I'm stressed - Christmas decor already??! Where has the year gone?

  14. IVORY ABOUT YOU Well, that was because I am just catching up and you kept two pairs of shoes. (You know there will be posh ones in midwinter.) Did you go to St. John? The cardi looks lovely and I am swooning Anne S. style at the mantel and cake. Thanks to our DBP, I got a very pale ivory cashmere tee a couple of years ago and as long as I put some blush on I really like the soft, clean look.

  16. WMM,
I just saw this post. So lovely. I am a huge fan of ivory, but instead of bright lipstick(I am a smudger!) I wear a colored scarf near my face. I think it looks very soft and pretty on you. I really need an invite to come join you for those tasty looking vegetables. Any produce with cheese and I am hooked. And white decor- so soothing.
