A Shite State of Affairs

It is important to clean out your septic tank regularly.  It is important to be able to flush your toilet.

Alas, we had forgotten the cleanout last fall, and were rewarded with the whole thing backing up.

Barry got to dig holes so the septic people could come.  I got to wash the laundry room floor.  Twice.

That's just muck folks, honestly

First he moved a BUNCH of snow...

But never mind, because tomorrow's April 1st right.  We're in the throes of spring, right?

Here's my back deck this morning.  We are quite a while away from seeing grass.....

I am soldiering on, because I am, to quote Betty White, "A cock-eyed optimist".

Thus today's outfit, a new Joe Fresh cardigan I bought last month and wide legged Joe Fresh Chambray trousers.

I'm wearing them for work around the house this a.m. with a pair of sneakers I bought at Aldo last fall.

This week, in anticipation of Easter, I shall wash and store away my woollens in a misguided effort to call Spring to my little corner of the world.

I am doing some spring cleaning, having delivered some work to my agent (no book deal yet - you all will know when I do - promise!).  I am planning Easter dinner.

We appear to be the place now, thanks to Global Warming, where it will be forever winter and cold.  The West coast has no water.  I could melt my snow and bring it to you, Janet and Jennifer....

Am now actively seeking other spots to move to....

Have an awesome day!

xoxo wendy

    1. On the bright side, we have lost a foot of snow in the last week - only five more feet to go!

  2. Here's a long distance hug

I feel guilty for ranting abt my 1st world problems while you are suffering thru 3d- world woes.

Are you sure you didn't maybe have spring/summer already and you just missed it because you were so busy writing, folding, organizing etc? I have read that something funny happens with time zones not far from you, could you be on winter 2016 already?

    1. Fred - that is an excellent point? I wonder if it might have happened when I was in NYC?

  3. Hi Wendy, I don't envy you and Barry the task of setting your septic tank to rights, hope it's all done now. I can't believe all the snow that you still have - but then again, my brother- and sister-in-law in Halifax are still tunnelling their way out of their house. We are at the slushy and dirty stage - not pretty, but necessary, I suppose.

I like the look of your chambray pants - must check out our local Superstore.

    1. Hi Patricia - the pants are very flattering (although long!) and comfortable and they cheered me up for the price!

  4. Ugh! We hadn't had ours cleaned in years, many years and finally had it done today.

  5. Yikes now to worrying about ours? We had it cleaned out about fifteen years ago and the toothless scary man who did it told us our tank was big enough for a small town. But we may have offloaded a small town's worth of various kinds of shite since then. Do love the sneakers.

    1. They do recommend every 2 to 3 years. I would recommend it if it's been 15 years, when t goes, it goes!

  6. Yuck. What a mess to endure through all that snow. Good thing you gave yourself some days "off" from writing! Nice cardigan!

    1. Thanks Barb! I am having a grand week, although am catching up on some online writing courses I hadn't gotten to. Fun! Then back on the chain gang next week!

  7. Oh yuck. Lucky Barry:). I love your cheery spirit. It has to warm up soon. We do need the water badly but not enough to put up with snow!!

  8. That is a great reminder. The last time we had the septic pumped we hired a company for the job. It was a company called Hercules and Mr Hercules himself came. Normally this type of work would not be something I would want to keep my eye on. However in this case, I was glued to the backyard as Hercules was one of the finest specimens of the male species I have ever seen. Given the warm day, he did have to remove his shirt. Oh my!!! I think it is about time for another septic clean, needed or not! Today we had a dusting of snow. I think we are most similar in that we are both, to borrow your description, mockingly optimistic. So we will not let this get us down, Wendy,as we know warmer days will surely come. I like your new sweater too.

    1. Oh la la. My guy looked like The Mountain from Game of Thrones! We optimists have to stick together - the other folks find each other anyway!

  9. What a bother! The local septic dudes' motto is "we're number one in number 2". We have sewer here but have been in the backup boat in the past.

How brave you are in chambray! I'm in wool pencil , tweed jacket , and boots to attend a meeting where the great Atul Gawande will speak. 3 feet of snow covers the asparagus bed.

    1. Good motto!!! I was frozen wearing that chambray, but I am moving into Spring clothes regardless!

  10. So sorry about your pipes. We spent half of the winter turning faucets on to stave off frozen water pipes. I suppose there is not much you can do for septic pipes...
Love the cheerful spring outfit! You have found a great "work at home" look. I need to make more effort with my "work at home" clothing- I dread hearing the doorbell ring! I dress for my regular job, then discard the nice clothing as soon as I walk in the door. Crazy.

  11. Well that's the sh**s! Poor you and Barry. You do have a way however of staying positive which is no doubt the best for your whole family.
