With apologies to Walt Whitman......
Joy, Shipmate, Joy!
JOY! shipmate—joy!
(Pleas’d to my Son at 20 I cry;)
One life is closed—one life begins;
The long, long anchorage we leave,
The ship is clear at last—he leaps!
He swiftly courses from the shore;
Joy! shipmate—joy!

Twenty years ago today I was in the hospital, trying to get birth to a 10 lb, 6 oz boy whose head felt as big as a pumpkin! (And he was early!)
I am no longer the mother of teenagers. Thus endeth one chapter and beginneth another....
Those of you with little kids at home that are exhausting you, mark my words well:
It passes in a blink of an eye. You will be me, soon enough.
And if you are lucky, you will do your job well enough that at the end you look at the face of a beautiful child, inside and out.
There has never been a moment that I regretted having children. It has been an honour to see them through their childhoods and it will be an honour to continue to watch them thrive and blossom throughout the rest of their lives.
Happy Birthday Forrest!
What a darling handsome boy he is! Happy Birthday Forrest you old man!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Forrest, you gaw-juss boy toy!
ReplyDeleteAw. They get older don't they. I still have one "teenager". But she'll be twenty in September. Mom always said you are not old until your child turns fifty. Happy Birthday Forrest.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your son! Teen ages will be there soon enough!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Forrest! He must have been an angel, because you have no wrinkles at all, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling young man! Happy Birthday Forrest!
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulation Wendy and Happy Birthday Forrest. He looks like he has grown into such a young man even since his high school and prom pictures. You are so right it does go by in a flash. I have only one left in their 20's. Luckily the grandbabies give the chance for an even more fun do-over! A 10 pounder to boot. My 6 and 7 pounders were big enough. Well he is one handsome devil. I am glad you had the opportunity in life to raise a wonderful son.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute guy you have there! Congratulations all around!!
ReplyDeleteWalt Whitman for the next generation. Hurray to Forry's new year, a big milestone, the third decade...Wish I could come round for leftover cake... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your awesome young man!!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone, for your wonderful wishes!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's adorable! My Forrest is 11, and I can't imagine time passing any faster than it has so far, but I'm sure it only seems to accelerate once they are teenagers. You are both glowing in the photo, so you and Barry must have done a fine job, indeed! Belated happy birthday to Forrest.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Forrest!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your son! What a sweet message and a beautiful picture!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting blog. A lot of blogs I see these days don't really provide anything that attract others, but I'm most definitely interested in this one. Just thought that I would post and let you know.
ReplyDeleteWendy what a sweet pos. Forrest is such a great name and what a handsome boy he is. The rewards of parenting are so apparent when they start to get these older ages. I am glad to hear it gets even better. Still have the teens. You clearly have a close bond and have raised a sweet boy. Congrats to him and you Wendy!!
