Blue

Blue Skies

My personality being what it is, I am invariably attracted to almost every colour in the rainbow.  But Blue is a real love in all of its shades.

My navy blue library walls, messy on Saturday,

an oasis of calm and order on Sunday...

It is astonishing how long it takes to clean and order one's books, but it is well worth it...

Of course, I always throw in the odd vignette:

And Mr. Bear is sitting by Laura Ingalls Wilder, but patiently waiting for the Christmas season, when he is given a red santa cap and suit..

I have massed some antique bells and bottles behind an antique print of Venice...

And the old globe fits will beside my armchair travel books:

Navy is lovely, but how about indigo, like the two indigo blue le creuset cappuccino cups that Barry and I bought on Saturday?

They make that morning cappuccino that much better...

Blue and white is timeless:

As are greeny-blue beach glass shades...

The gradation of blue and turquoiseis just mesmerizing

I really want a cornflower blue top now....

A Tiffany Blue Box is always welcome...

A little chinoiserie is so elegant:

And pale blue is so soothing...

My bowl of blue paper cranes that GetFresh made me for my 50th birthday continues to make me smile:

as do my navy glitter Kikis, which I wore to a concert last night and which made me look at my feet the whole evening!

And finally, pops of blue can make a picture:

It is a rainy day here today, so these pops of blue have made me smile!  How about you - do you have a favourite shade?

On a completely different note - we saw Gravity yesterday.  My boyfriend George did very well, but Sandra Bullock is astonishing and most of the movie is her by herself.  Well worth the money to go and I recommend a 3D viewing...

Have an awesome Monday and stay safe out there!!!

  1. I wondered if you went to see Gravity. Your boobs will looks smashing in the cornflower top:) Wait until you see the nesting I have been doing...painted tyler's old room, em's room, their bath, and tyler's new room all a lovely shade of blue (Upward by Sherwin Williams). Love it. I do find reorganizing bookshelves to be extremely rewarding. Almost like getting a new work of art.

    1. HA! I will not be looking for that top - I bet it is a bazillion dollars! Can't wait to see your handiwork!

  2. Funny about colors but it goes with the mood and the wind for me. I can't commit to a favorite but my least favorite has to be red. I get a bit anxious and short of breath thinking about it even. A red room would drive me crazy for sure. Also, I think there needs to be different names for different blues bc some blues are cheery and some are so Picasso going through the dumps blue. Love your indigo study though!

    1. CSW - I am like you - tomorrow it could be pink, though I think I always love blue...

  3. My favorite blue is Yves Klein's blue, or "International Klein Blue," a deep purpley-shade of indigo. My winter coat is in a shade as close as I could find to it but is not as deep. My home office at home in the States is a deep, jewel-toned emerald green, which I also love, but I like a light gray best for my bedroom, as I find it extremely cool and soothing.

    1. My office is a lovely blue-grey and it is just right for working. I have peacock blue in the bedroom, which I quite like!

I love emerald green, I really want to paint my dining room emerald green.... Not sure Barry would agree!

  4. Blue is also my favourite colour - thanks for the lovely photos! Quite envious of your navy blue library! We painted our daughter's bedroom a pale shade of blue and I find it the most calming room in the house. I have heard "Gravity" got excellent reviews, but it may be another few more months before M and I can get out by ourselves for another movie date. We went to see "Rush" this past weekend and that was a lot of fun. Happy Monday!

  5. You must keep that summer photo of Barry somewhere nearby over the long winter. It will brighten those cold, bleak days. Heck, I'm going to bookmark this post and come back to that summer photo for a bit of winter warmth too, if you don't mind.

Blue is so soothing to my eyes and I love all the pinks and purples with strong blue undertones as well. Blue really is your color, it's gorgeous with your porcelain skin and auburn hair.

    1. Thanks xoxo - and Barry will like it that you have boomarked him!!! Have you decided on a colour for the nurseries yet?

    2. We haven't selected the nursery color yet. I don't like the gender-neutral colors yellow or green so we are waiting until we know if we are having girls or boys and then it will be pink or blue, respectively. Boring perhaps, but I am fairly traditional.

    3. Well I was traditional, too, so I hear you! Hope you are feeling well!!! I laughed when I saw the maternity jeans out this morning - you have done well to just get into them now!

    4. Oh aren't those jeans just the pits?! And they were the best I could find so far. I have been "extending" my regular jeans with a hair elastic looped through the button hole and around the button leaving the zipper undone but it's time to just move on to the comfortable, ugly pair now. A little too cold to have an open fly these days.

    5. The open fly was covered by a longer top of course, but still breezy!

  6. Blue is my favorite color, in all shades, from navy blue to pale grayish hint of blue. In home decorating I usually go for neutral walls but my living room is sage blue and my bathroom is very pale gray blue. For clothes, my favorite shades are cornflower and indigo blue. I can just picture you in your sparkly Kikis, what a perfect pair of shoes for you. I am always in awe of your library and I want those cappucino cups, of course the coffee is so much better served in them.
I may go to see Gravity this weekend, looking forward to it...

  7. It always feels great to get something organized! I love blue lately, it's been going on for most of this year. I'm learning not to buy yellow or green, I just don't wear them enough, and even reds I'm not wearing that much so I'm quitting them too. Pretty soon my closet will be all neutrals plus pinks and blues. I might be really happy with that.

    1. Cate - we may have a matching closet. I have decided to mostly hold my reds in reserve for the holidays! The rest of the time, they are hard to do up near the face!

    2. I disagree, W. I think you look smashing in red!

    3. Thanks AB! I guess it depends on the shade - but December I will be redding it up!

  8. Love your navy bookshelves! Mine are Providence Olive from BenM. All the blues/greens are my favorite. So soothing.

    1. Hi Jennifer! I am now thinking of a lovely pale blue room somewhere in the house - maybe the hallway - although my dining room is gold, the kitchen is cream and 40s green and my little sitting room is Bordeaux!

  11. My favorite color is purple, and my husband is all about blue. Since we moved in together, I find that my closet is dominated by those two colors (it's funny, they say couples often dress alike, and it's so true!) I love your library, I could just move in there! Looks like an oasis of calm!
We saw Gravity a couple of months ago at a film festival and found that I should ave probably taken a tranquilizer before/after. Definitely not for the weak of heart!

    1. Oh apparently some people walked out the night before - it was too much for them! For some reason, I didn't find it too terrible - maybe I had steeled myself to it in advance??? Purple and blue are a lovely combo!

  12. Hi Wendy, I'm going to bookmark this post too, those are some gorgeous images, great inspiration. I like blue as well - our living room is a periwinkle blue, powder room and laundry room are a slightly paler shade of blue, and our bedroom is blue as well. However, I do love a yellow kitchen!

    1. My kitchen used to be yellow - at one point I think half the house was in shades of yellow! now we are all kinds of colours - daughter's room is Tiffany Blue, ours is Peacock, Son's is grey, bathroom is white with a blue turquoise, the main level is vintage-y colours and the basement is fresh and neutral. well except the Paris bathroom, which is over the top!

  13. Dont laugh,i used to hate blue, after i "overdosed" on it in my twenties.
Now i finally rediscovered it and love esp the indigo and navy shades.
I bought way to much in those shades since we are in ATL.
My last purchase was the indigo boyshirt in embroidered dot and the shade is lovely.
The interior of my house is mostly in shades of grey and white,no blue there yet!

Btw.i am horsing around today(aka wearing the sweatshirt):)

Have you been to the tenement museum - we were gobsmacked by that one - I really felt it was a marvelous way to learn NYC immigrant history!
