Spit and Polish

Things have been very busy Chez Wendy this summer.

As you know, the winter destroyed our old pool.  It took a long time to get a new one and while we waited, we decided that we really ought to paint the gazebo and re-shingle its roof.

Thank goodness for Barry's abilities. Apart for a cracking good mind, he is one of the most handy men I know.

For the cost of a can of paint and a few bundles of shingles - which are not expensive, at least not in the amount we required - we feel like we got a whole new building!
Took this picture yesterday -
you can from the tools and wood
he was still fixing the decking around the new pool

The bright white inside makes it so inviting...

We sit out so much these days in the evening - it is the perfect firefly viewing spot!!!!

Well done Barry!

Did anyone else watch the Wimbledon Men's Finals today?

I was on pins and needles.  I really wanted Federer to win, to be the all-time champion there, but it was not meant to be. But what tennis!!! I love Wimbledon and was so happy to see Serena win yesterday!

Gotta love those action shots, including my crush Benedict posing for a selfie... He really is quite famous for that now...

Tomorrow we are off to my old stomping grounds to see old friends!  I cannot wait!  I have been locked in my office writing for hours each day and I am ready for a break!!!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

xoxo wendy

  2. I'd live out in that gazebo; I think it must be hot there, too. Such a wonderful space but the clever B!

You deserve a break so I hope you are going to get a nice little vacay.

MLane was disappointed Federer did not win, too; I can't watch tennis, but i heard shouting periodically during the match. He moves beautifully, I think.

    1. Tell MLane I was hollering with him. It was quite a match!!! John McEnroe said he was the most beautiful player to play the game! Just a day trip but going to see my mum's best friend who is 90 and my first best friend in life, who I haven't seen for more than 30 years! So excited!!!

  3. What a fab spot to watch fireflies from. It's so pretty Wendy! I heard my father in law shouting at the tv today so i assumed he was watching tennis. :)
I did get to watch some of Serena...what a stunning performance that was!

    1. I find tennis so civilized - I think it's all the white - you must love it!!! Janet, I feel I am channelling you lately - I keep going lighter and lighter and lighter... Is that the 50s?

  4. Hi Wendy, what a lovely job Barry did on the gazebo. And I love the way you have furnished it - especially that rug.

No tennis for me, had a pain in my neck all weekend, and no, not because my husband came back from a week away for work!

    1. It's so funny - we didn't buy new furniture but it looks new against the white - always the sign of a good paint choice!

  5. I love to watch fireflies.. What a perfect spot. Our deck finally gave up the ghost and we replaced it - to our shock, the contractor was fabulous and the job was completed smoothly and efficiently. That doesn't often happen.

I took tennis lessons at a few different stages of my life. I am not meant to play tennis. At a park where four tennis courts were set out next to one another, from the interior-most court, I returned a serve out into the street and into the window of a passing car. Fortunately the driver was someone I knew, she thought it was funny and no one was hurt. A few beers later I thought it was pretty funny too.

    1. A good contractor is a thing of beauty! I am with you on the tennis - was often disastrous for me, so am a happy spectator now!
