After two heartfelt posts surely you knew I would have to come up for air?
I blame this post on Dani.
Yes, that Dani - she of the classic tweedy style and stoves that I might crawl into and live in like a hobbit under a hillock...
So she told me about that damn tidying book.
I haven't really had time to "do" the book yet, what with work and Christmas and all, but I did my office (8 garbage bags later!) and then moved on to the current season's wardrobe, because well, I couldn't resist and frankly, I don't have a huge wardrobe anyway.
And I'm not going to lie. I was intrigued about the folding. And then Patricia (or was it Marie?) mentioned the videos of the konmari folding method online.
So I watched them. And re-watched them, since, if truth be told, I do not naturally lend myself to that kind of thing (for example, I still don't really know how to tie my shoes like everyone else. I just tie them. I guess I could learn, but I've managed this many years so why bother?).
And then friends, I became a folding machine.
I folded here
I folded there
I folded all
my underwear
I folded high
I folded low
and if i could
I'd fold the snow!
damn, the green sweater up front is slight askew! I'm going to have to run up and take care of that... |
Barry's tshirts! He is using the konmari method now! |
There's a picture book in that. Or a psychiatrist. You decide....
xoxo Wendy
oh and as per the post title:
Just imagining me in this, only folding....
Laughing here but also in awe of your folding, well done! My sweaters look like that now and though I promised to review the book I just can't, I don't even know how to approach it. I've had to empty our basement and garden shed this week for the next stage of the renovation and while I donated so many things I don't think I used the method, it was far too hectic. I'll have to approach it in categories in the new year, anyway it's really a 'fresh start of the year' project anyway, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteHonestly I think I have to read it again, I do find it soothing.
I really like that poem Wendy and yes there is a picture book there!
I think categories are key, but for sure this is a January activity, to go hand in hand with the January cure!
DeleteWho ARE those people?!?
ReplyDeleteI am soooo jealous of your drawers right now I can't speak...
You should have seen them before! I need more folding! I'll get in the car and be there around 2 am to start folding for you!
Deletei'm dazzled.
ReplyDeleteHa! But are you really...:-)
DeleteVery clever missy - and I got it immediately ...you are a folder for Olympics alright. Just learned loads about folding as got in a wardrobe consultant who told us most of our space badly designed because allows for one and a half jerseys/sweater and there I thought I was just untidy. Have to say when you fold you get clothes with a fresh lease on life
ReplyDeleteI love the folding. I will always have clutter, but I love knowing how to fold!
DeleteYes, I have read most of the book...easy pickings for anything organizational. You appear to have the folding down pat. Forget about the "askew" and just go with it. I am forcing myself to wear everything in my wardrobe and that is tough. I want to wear my **GASP** Brora venice navy sweater all the time. That Dani is dangerous.
ReplyDeleteThat would be v neck...even autocorrect can't wait for me to go to Italy.
DeleteHa! The thing for me is joy. I actually dumped a bunch of of jewellry. For a personality like mine, thanking the item for its work for me is a good thing!
DeleteOoh, Wendy, it was me, it was me! :0) Our drawers are now things of beauty.
ReplyDeleteI found her categories to be very broad - there didn't seem to be one for household/kitchenware, which seems to come under 'miscellaneous'. I think the method is a product of her location, so I'm not sure how it translates - I believe that Japanese homes are usually very small, so that's what I was picturing when she talked about her clients. I also got the feeling that many of her clients were single ladies like her. So, I'm not sure I would use the method as written in the book, but I certainly found it charming and inspiring.
I did go though our books, but apparently most of them still spark joy, therefore they remain.
I think I will have same issue with books! I think you are right, though I am liking it so far!
DeleteI need to get my paws on this book so I can fold everything in my carry on when I to Paris...
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there will be any backlash to all the neat and tidy books on the market...I could try my hand at writing "the messy book!"
Hostess, I could co-write it with you!
DeleteI'm fairly organized and pared down from all the moving but that folding is MAGNIFICENT. I have no ability to learn visually so it will take me a few tries I suspect.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, if I can learn, so can you!
DeleteWhat a scream this post was, 'I'd fold the snow' put me over the edge!
ReplyDeleteI know - very Seussian! You are so neat, this would be old hat to you!
DeleteGood in theory but i just cant didnt see the longevity of it when I did it.
ReplyDeleteShe is so brutal that I actually prefer my mayhem. But it is soothing on the eye admittedly.
She is brutal, but I do imagine her loving her entire world!
DeleteCall a psychiatrist if the order persists into February ;)
ReplyDeleteI hear you!
DeleteGreetings Wendy - I hate, hate, hate clutter, so I want, want, want this book. I have also asked for this for the holidays. I usually use a J.Crew catalog turned sideways, but this looks like more professional equipment. Cheers! ReplyDeleteWell I fold freestyle, no helper, thanks to Konmari let me know how you make out!
DeleteGreetings Wendy - I actually received this for the holidays thanks to my sister's sign up for Amazon Prime (free 2-day shipping). I shook out some sweaters and refolded them, and they look amazing! The book is on my Amazon wishlist . . . to order and read after I finish folding everything :-) Cheers - Jennifer
DeleteI just ordered this book!! I had no idea what I was letting myself in for, but knew I needed help. Heading up to watch the video!
ReplyDeleteit is a little addictive!
DeletePsychiatrist...but I may feel better after. BTW..check out "Desire Map" by Danielle LaPorte.
ReplyDeleteI have ordered this and will do it and the other in January! I loved the style statement!
DeleteWhen you mentioned the book weeks ago, I requested it from my library, and coincidentally it arrived today. I am looking forward to reading it, although I am already a a master folder - not a good cook, but a great fluffer and arranger : ) I am intrigued.
ReplyDeleteWe could just set up house together - I'll cook and you arrange!
DeleteO my gawd Wendy hilarious. Pictured you singing I'm all about the folding the whole time I watched the video.
ReplyDeleteI know! I was singing it while I was folding laundry yesterday!
DeleteOkay, but what about the sweaters? Do they stay standing up in the drawers? I think mine will flip over!
ReplyDeleteSO glad you asked! ;-) You find the "sweet spot" - you may need to fold over an extra time - but they do stand!
DeleteWow! I thought that they would either fall or get to the point that you might as well just roll them. Some of my very soft tshirts (like Everlane ) are hard to fold. I just need more practice!
