How the snow is making me all spring-like inside...

It is hard to know how to dress this Spring.

Yesterday it was +10.  Today it is snowing.  Mostly, I live in my Hunter boots...

On Easter Sunday, I thought of undertaking a noble quest - much like Frodo Baggins - and decided to venture out back to visit my Magnolia tree.  I sunk to the top of my boots after only a few steps in the snow and was stuck for a good two or three minutes, cursing my own stupidity and the Snow Gods!  Actually, I must be honest, I am blaming greenhouse gases for this situation...

Where the footsteps stop is where I met my Waterloo...

I am ever hopeful that I will see my plants again someday, but I do not think I will see them till at least mid-May at this rate:

So I turned my attention to the Easter table, making a little centerpiece of critters and much-loved children's books that make me think of Spring:

This cheered my up immensely, I must say.

As did the blues on the table...

And speaking of blue, the dining room is about to be painted.  Dear son has proven to be a Master Painter, recently repainting my upstairs bathroom in only a few hours and doing a good job.  Have I ever mentioned how much I loathe painting?  Well I do.

Within one minute of beginning I begin to think about how much more I have to do, how my arm is already hurting, and how stupid it is not to have magical powers.  No one asks me to paint anymore and I am all the better for it.  Some folks find it soothing and satisfying.  I wonder about them.

Anyhow, the colour we have chosen is a lovely blue from Benjamin Moore: Breath of Fresh Air.

Benjamin moore Breath of Fresh Air

It is a clear warm blue and I love it.

We think we will paint the ceiling white dove:

White dove, Benjamin Moore

And of course, since this room bleeds into the sitting room and it needs a refresh, I am planning to paint in there too.  (Oh wait, let me be clear: I am NOT planning to paint, I am planning to delegate the painting!).

Benjamin Moore coral essence

The lady at the store was trying to get me to choose a greyish-blue and a paler coral, but I was having none of it.  The heart wants what it wants and in my experience, the dullest houses I know are those that are all painted in the same hue depth.  They may be more tasteful than mine, but personally, I adore a little punch.

Now I just have to get my new painter on board.  Since he lives in, he is my own version of Eldon from Murphy Brown:

He just needs to grow his hair out a little.  He has the tattoos and piercings.  And he also shares his opinions freely about what I am up to!

Anyone else in the mood to paint?  He could use the company!

Have a great day and stay safe out there!

xoxo wendy

  1. I'm rotten at painting, but I'll send MLane who is a superb painter and very fussy. That's a gorgeous clear blue; I painted the girls' bath BM Bird's Egg last year, more of a robin egg color, with crisp white high gloss trim. Spring does call for fresh paint.

Oy, that snow is just unbelievable!

    1. Lane - it just never stops! I am watching it out the window and trying not to weep! Maybe the paint colours will change all! MLane sounds like Barry. I suck - no patience at all!

  2. Wow, that is a lot of snow. It will melt!!!

Love the blue colour you chose. My husband is very picky about painting, so I let him take care of any painting that needs to be done. We just repainted the kids' bathroom a pale watery blue-green. Now debating on repainting other parts of the house...

    1. It is my contention that one thing leads to another and it never stops!

  3. I'm planning to paint our hallway up into the second floor the same dark gold that is in the living room and dining room. I don't mind painting but I would like to do the ceilings in a pale apricot and that is going to give me a pain in the neck for sure.
Your Easter table was beautiful. With that long long winter these new fresh colours are going to be just the thing.
Please send your Eldon on over when he's through!

    1. We have gold in the dining room, and we used to have it in the hallway, but in the end, it has been 10 years and I need a refresher!

I will see if Eldon wants to visit Ontario!

  4. I haven't looked in here in a while (got quite busy!) but now that I have, I am appalled that you still have this much snow and that it's still coming down. I think a Frodo style quest is in order, somewhere warm, obviously! I like your festive Easter table.

  7. I love the colors you have chosen. Our main rooms are done with neutral tones, but I have a bright blue in our bedroom and another room with a dark purple... Will you share the results?

  8. My husband is not handy at all, but he can have tea and crumpets with you while Barry the wonder, your son and I redo your house. I plan on having you bake those delectable cookies you posted a few months ago as a reward. See, I plan ahead :)
Beautiful colors, cheery and so Wendy!

  9. I, on the other hand, LOVE to paint and have done so every chance I got, but you will never make me come to all that snow you have, sorry. :D You'd have to move much closer. Where I live we are in full tulip season. ;)

  11. I used to love to paint (never ceilings) until we had a very heavy spackle texture applied to all the walls. Now I loathe it and never change the color because it would take a gazillion coats to get into all the little crevices. So sorry about the snow...it must be global warming! Love that blue color. It's going to look fresh and happy.

    1. Jennifer - you are so right - it is all global warming and we are the victims this spring. There is also flooding, the by-product of all of that snow!

  12. You have got to be kidding with that snow. The months I could come visit are quickly disappearing...maybe just July and August. Ack! We have "people" who paint for us. I just have to be patient and wait until we are slow at work.

  14. I love your paint colour choices! I've never even tried painting, but I suspect that I would not enjoy it, although I do like the idea of transforming a room.
I really hope your snow thaws soon and that you have a lovely, long hot summer!

    1. Ruth, surely that is what is going to happen??? All of the trees are covered in snow again this morning! Ack!

  15. That snow is unacceptable! Now that we are in the green down here my contentment is marred by the knowledge that your yard is still buried. Come and stay down here until it all melts, for both our sakes!
That blue you chose is beautiful. Good for you sticking to your guns at the paint store. I loathe people forcing their design taste on others!

  16. I'm with you Wendy - I loath painting. We painted our entire house - undercoat and two coats of topcoat (in some cases three) on every surface inside and out. Never again. Funnily enough I remember being out the front of the house painting the fence and an older couple walking past, stopping to reminisce with me about doing the same when they were younger, and then saying "never again". Good work on the delegation. I love your colour choices - you are definitely not a beige person, so go with the colour pops.
I can't believe you still have snow... that's just ridiculous. It's like something out of Little House on the Prairie when they had that 7 months of blizzards. xx

  17. Love the Benjamin Moore blues. My entire abode, both inside and out is painted in Patriotic White, which is a clear, light, bright blue that resembles the sky on a cloudy day. It is sumptuous and understated. Everyone and I do mean everyone who visits asks about the color and then proceeds to apply same to their walls. Enjoy your foray into blue.
