Thursday, in which Wendy pretends it is spring by putting florals on the bed....

I am on the serious countdown to warmth and Mickey now, but thought I would share a great "stumble upon".

If you recall, last summer I bought a new duvet and duvet cover.  In the end, I settled for a gorgeous white linen cover from Pottery Barn.  But we have a third companion in our bed and sometimes he has mucky prints, despite our best efforts, so most of the time the duvet cover is further covered with another blanket.

I decided that in an ideal world, I would have a second duvet cover and save the white for the warmer and dryer months - May to October.  Plus it's always nice to have an alternate when you are laundering the other.

However, I decided to wait and look this summer, or at least wait until after our trip.

Off I trotted last weekend to Target.  Our Target only opened in November.  Prior to that, I had to go to Maine to shop at Target.

Since it is newly opened, I think I've maybe been in the store twice, since I just haven't been shopping at all.  But I was in search of rain ponchos (which they did NOT have so guess I will try WallyMart this weekend) so I stopped in to see if I could get them there.

As I wandered around, I ended up in the bedding section.  Imagine my delight when I literally stumbled over a queen size duvet cover and shams set by shabby chic, 100% cotton, for $24 in a clearance bin.  Nothing wrong with them, just last season's bedding that they were trying to move before the new stuff comes in.

The floral pattern and colour caught my eye, since of course all I have is snow.  If you need snow, by all means call me - I can ship it at excellent rates.  So into my cart the set fell and then onto my bed at home:

And while I do not love the set like I love my white linen, it is a nice alternate for the bed and has given us a sweet jolt of colour to cheer us up this Forevuary!

I guess I may be one of the last non-Target shoppers, but I must say I am impressed with the quality of this line.  So if I never get another deal to equal that I will not complain, because a $23 duvet cover set is kind of highway robbery and I sort of ran from the store in case they caught up with me...

How about you?  Any fun "steals" these days?

Have a great day and stay safe out there!

  1. I'll swap you some snow for some heat! Although thankfully today has been much cooler... but honestly we are (literally) polar opposites with our weather this year.
Love the set, what a bargain! And glad it's brought a little bit of the promise of Spring inside, even if it's knee deep (or deeper) snow outside xx

    1. Hi Heidi! It really does seem as if we are getting the hard end of the stick these days, doesn't it?

  2. I can't even think spring till March/April although our winter has been nothing like yours. Oh if only I had stayed in Maine!

    1. Me three! That's quite a steal, looks like part of the Shabby Chic line? They have extra long twin sheets for college beds; I wouldn't get my own sheets there, but towels, college stuff, synthetic pillows are all Ok as are the duvets.

However, I'm glad I'm not currently in Maine; soon you won't be in Canada either.

Best recent deal: from the kitchen store at home, I scored a small glass hurricane lamp to hold one of my beeswax candles--$7.

    2. That is a good deal! I am with you on sheets - I am a high thread count snob - I love luxurious sheets!!! If I slept on this duvet cover I would not be happy, not like I would on the gorgeous Pottery Barn one. But the dog loves it and it is a nice alternative to the white! I am feeling very sorry for MLane, all alone in the blizzard that is Maine and NB!

  3. They say target is like a casino, you lose track of time and money. No matter what I go for I always spend $100. The flowers would cheer me up. We are presently having very spring weather..70F yesterday.

hope it is warm in FLA- I am looking at the weather outlooks and it looks like the weather will be all over the place, from 65 to 83 F. I am hoping for 70s!

    2. I'm hoping no rain for you. Last time we were there it was 36F and sunny. Freezing, but drove the tourist away and we had the rides to ourselves...so much fun...my favorite is The Simpson ride.

    3. Oh the rain at Disney is a pain in the ass! Have done that before! What I really want is to be able to go into an outdoor pool....

  4. That is a gorgeous floral print. Love the colours. Target has been a hit and miss here but I still go about once a month for household supply stuff. I was there on Sunday to buy glass Pyrex food storage containers so I can bring dinners to my in-laws. That glass Pyrex is still made in the USA and they come with sturdy plastic lids that don't curl and shrink. Very good quality and a great price at Target. I'll be filling them with meals this morning!
I have to stop myself buying baskets at Target. I am a reformed basket-addict and they have so many nice ones.

    1. I do love some Pyrex, but I have enough to "see me out" as they say around here!

I would say I will go more, but I will likely avoid it like the plague if they have nice things!!!!

  5. We have a number of duvert covers as I change them out with the sheets. I have 2 from Target that are fairly nice, but my #1 choice for duvet sets is IKEA. They have a huge range of choices, some lovely patterns, and they hold up really well through multiple trips through the washer and dryer. Enjoy your early spirng flowers!

    1. we are no good for IKEA - closest is 8 hours away and shipping is a drag from them in Canada in my experience, sadly

  6. I have only been in our local Target once. They didn't have what I needed so haven't bothered to go back. The bright sun on the piles of snow are causing us to want to brighten up the indoors too. Working on a bathroom right now. Slow going since we cannot seem to decide.

    1. Barry and I have a lot of painting to do this year! It's seems like everything got messy and old and worn on the walls all at once!

  7. Those sheets are pretty and what a great deal. I'm usually on a mission for something or other when I go to Target and don't end up browsing around too much so I'd probably miss a deal like this.

    1. I think we were browsing as I'd never really looked around much, so that was my reward I guess!

  8. I quite like Target! Much nicer atmosphere than Walmart and the prices are good. I have actually started buying packaged foods (e.g. pasta, crackers) at Target, as their prices are almost always better than at Loblaws. Your duvet cover was a major score - very pretty!!

  9. Before my granddaughter was born I happened by a Shabby Chic store in Soho which was closing at the time. I was able to find some beautiful patchwork pillow shams in many different pale blue and pink patterns. I bought them and cut them into new pieces for her baby quilt. She still loves it but is outgrowing it! I hope you enjoy your Shabby Chic as much as she has.
