Random Saturday Musings

So many things to discuss, so little time before I have to go get some groceries...

1) Putin Writes an Op-Ed

Really, Vladimir?  Really?

If you haven't read it, by all means, go here

I haven't seen this much obnoxious self-aggrandization and pontification since the Charlie Sheen Winning! rants of a few years ago.

I can't tell you whether or not I fully know if the international community should use force against Syria.  I know the U.S., like other powerful countries, is often accused of being too quick to go to the force option (though frankly I think someone needed to do something about Syria a while ago) but I refuse to see America chided by a man whose human rights record is so deplorable and who sells arms to countries who have no business having those weapons.

I will take my cues on what to do from international experts and academics, not this man:

And if I have offended any Putin lovers, my sincere apologies! ;-)

2) Colorado Flooding

Is it just me, or is this happening more and more?  My heart is with the folks out in Colorado, who are dealing with this horrendous natural disaster. This is water of biblical proportions..

3) The Miley Abides...

Twerking seems so innocent now....

The metaphor Miley has employed, riding naked on a wrecking ball for her latest video, is as subtle as a heart attack....

Oh Miley - I never much liked your show or your music, but please, sweetie, dial it back a little...

4) Virginia is coming!  Virginia is coming!

News that Virginia Woolf will be a cameo character in this season of Downton Abbey tickled me pink!

You can read all about it here.

Virginia Woolf (George C. Beresford/Hulton Archive); Christina Carty in in 'Belonging to Laura'

Who's next - Vita Sackville-West doing the gardening?  Oh - I can't wait!

That's it for me - have an awesome day and stay safe out there!

  1. The Putin-Miley images--I need eyedrops. Ugh.

There are more disasters in the natural world due to weather change. Still people who feel God wants them to plunder the earth's resources, go figure.

    Time for farmer's market!

  2. I will watch Downton abbey again purely for that alone! Putin is very Game of thrones-y in that picture and in real life as well... I love Colorado and hope the flooding stops already! I am of an age that Cyrus still conjures up "my achey breaky heart."

  3. Oh, that little dig in Putin's final paragraph...my, how it get under my exceptional 'merican skin. :) Thanks for the heads-up on Downton Abbey. I stopped watching it, but now will have to start up again!

  4. OH wow, I'm with Lane. Those(Putin and Miley) are 2 awful images. Although, in Miley's case, I have to think there is a "grownUp" making those decisions for her. VW on Downton will be very interesting indeed. THanks for the updates!

  5. BLINDED BY THE SIGHTS Too much of both politicians and pop stars, and their ridiculous egos, these days. Think you've pulled me back into Downton. And I hope Miley mellows to be like the Wahlberg's or similar, decent niche actors, ambassadors for their city, even it appears trend restauranteurs, block up street from me. Basically, that she gets a third act versus a crack-up.

Just absorbed your Friday post and all the wonderful comments WMM. I've always had jobs with fairly large amounts of rejection, pitches to media, clients, performers' managers. I still have to get my moxie up and a part of me still takes the rejection very personally. But, I worry that when it stops affecting me then I really don't care about my job or doing my best. You have to fail and make mistakes to try, and all that.

Winston's up-and-downs are always a comfort to me and as he said, KBO!

  6. hi, Wendy, some genius whose name eludes me has tweeted that Putin's piece reads better if at the end of every paragraph you add, "Mr. Bond."

well, the weather has changed again, off to repack. Again.

  8. Those two photos of Putin and Miley Cyrus make my eyes burn!!! Terrible! Both of them need to keep their shirts on!!

Really looking forward to the new season of Downton Abbey, as well as Sherlock. Those Brits know how to make a good TV show!

  9. Miley is so sadly desperate to be a Gaga wanna be. It's just pitiful. And Putin, put a shirt on man. Your macho mojo nauseates.

  10. I had to stop reading when he said " we have to respect the law whether we like it or not"
A point he hasn't applied in his own country. Still, loving that awes pic of him, cossack on the Steppes!

VW in Downton - might even start watching, I gave up two series ago as it clashed with Homeland.

  11. That part of Colorado is such a mess right now. This much rain is so unusual. I think they've probably had their annual rainfall in a week's time.

Miley Cyrus, wt...??? Shocking people, already been done, it's getting boring. If she really wanted to shock us, she'd put some clothes on :D

    1. Hi Cate! If she really wanted to shock us - she could go on Downton Abbey!

  12. It's not the first time Putin has "written" an op-ed for the NYT but if you think he himself actually wrote it I have a bridge to sell you. Regardless he's making Obama and Kerry look like total amateurs. The rebels in Syria are killing Christians and have Al Qaeda support. It's pretty difficult to decide who should get our help. I agree with Sarah Palin - let Allah sort it out.

    1. Hey Anon! Having worked for politicians at one point in mu life, I don't think I have ever seen them write anything! :-)

  13. There's a show in Australia (comedy based on current political events) that ran a segment called "What would Putin do?". It regularly featured him on horseback, diving for those amphorae, wrestling, riding a motorbike etc etc. Which they'd offer as a solution to an Australian public figure (usually politician) that needed to improve their image.

Miley needs an intervention. Like CSW I also think of achey breaky heart. And surely her Dad is not enjoying this spectacle (as publicly supportive of her as he has been?)

I hope the floods abate in Colorado soon. That image looks just terrible. xx

Wenders you're killing me with these images, I don't know whether to laugh or cry! Thanks for saving us at the end with this interesting Downton tidbit, funny since we have VW on our radar these days! I hope you are having a great weekend!
