Random Saturday Musings

Saturday Again!

Well if yesterday was melancholy, today's is full of "piss and vinegar", as folks are wont to say around here!

1) Toronto International Film Festival

I think it is wonderful that someone thought to make a world-class film festival in our GetFresh's backyard.  Literally - her backyard!

Wish I was there to see the world premiere of The Fifth Estate and one of my boyfriends - Benedict Cumberbatch!

The Fifth Estate star Benedict Cumberbatch says he's flattered by the attention he's been getting at TIFF.

Of interest to me is the Canadian movie All the Wrong Movies, starring the Late Cory Monteith.  Less because of Cory frankly, but because the director is a woman, Gia Milani, who lives here in Fredericton!  Yay Gina!

Go Toronto!

2)

We need some us time....

3) And speaking of Gay Rights...(or lack thereof)

Australia is holding an election today.

One of the critical issues that has emerged late in the election is the issue of gay marriage.

Not sure if anyone else got this, but I have seen the video featured in the article below on Facebook several times...

http://globalnews.ca/news/816242/watch-australian-prime-minister-defends-gay-marriage/

Will be interested to see who wins...

4) and speaking of Facebook...

I discovered something I really love about Facebook this week - back to school photos!  I loved seeing all of my friends' and co-workers' kids in their new clothes, their shining faces, on the first day of school.  My son would say it's all downhill from there, and perhaps it is, but on that day, posing for mum or dad, all promise and glory, it's all good....

5) And one more reason I am glad not to be a single person living in Britain..

A report issued this week reveals that single British men only change their sheets four times a year!  Yuck!
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/08/28/revealed-how-often-do-single-men-change-their-sheets/

Not surprisingly, women reported changing their sheets more often.

Of course, I am pretty sure that if we did the same survey with single Canadian men, the results would be EXACTLY THE SAME....

mom wouldn't be happy...

Have a happy Saturday - stay safe out there!

  1. I just finished watching the Sherlock series on Netflix and I was surprised to see how old Benedict Cumberbatch looks in the picture you posted. I really liked Sherlock, have you seen it? Impatiently awaiting the next episodes...

    Have a great Saturday!

    1. Oh George and I have an open relationship... He does look creepy as Assange for sure!

  3. Changing the sheets, my least favorite household chore. Thankfully, husband and young son have taken on the challenge definitely more than 4 times a year. Benedict seems to be on fire, he has more than 4 films coming up and good ones at that. That's nice, we need a new leading man as I'm a bit tired of George and Brad, sorry!

    1. well I am waiting for George to find a woman of more substance, and I know that sounds mean (sorry Stacy..)but it is time he got a woman who was more of an intellect. Though that may not be what my Georgie wants..

  5. Hi Wendy, I know for a fact that my son was very lax in changing sheets in his first year in residence - hopefully he'll do a bit better this year in his own flat.

TIFF is very exciting, but it's not for the faint-hearted. I thought I'd try to get tickets - I was about 700 in the online queue an hour after the box office opened. And I saw in the news that people had been queuing outside since 6 am. I guess I'll just have to read all about it.

My husband and I will be going to a same-sex wedding next month - in fact, I believe he'll be officiating! We haven't been to a wedding in 20 years, we are looking forward to it very much.

    1. Patricia - I loathe going to weddings, I think they are so boring, someone needs to mix up the format.

    2. Hi Patricia - we have hit about three same sex weddings so far - always very moving, as in all cases had been together for a LONG time! I hear you on the long lines - I can't bear them anymore!

    3. Hi Tabs - I wonder what you'd think of this one, they are doing a Halloween theme!

  6. Benedict - I love him too, in this cookie cutter looks world he stands out like a rough marquise shaped diamond.

Sheets - hubs flat was stinking, his Aga hadn't been cleaned in about 30 years, it had layer upon layer of grease, his sink in the loo was so filthy, I would never wash my hands. he did rent out rooms to two male flat mates - let's blame them. I never stayed the night once pre marriage!

The DHL man came - I don't know where to begin, no wonder I don't shop much, it was a diatribe of filth, racism et al - will email all of that!

  12. Oh good lord - 4 x's a year is just horrible. Although I suspect that my husband would take around 3 months to notice he needed to change the sheets if I didn't do it, so it does sound about right.

I always love the back to school photos on Facebook from my friends - and I got to post one of my own recently when my middle child started school. I love looking at the photo of my little chubby cheeked eldest when he started - just 2 years later and he looks so grown up! xx

  13. I was on the water all day yesterday. Looking forward to more of the "Sherlock" series; i still find him strange looking, but he's growing on me. No Liam Neeson, though.

Hope the boy is doing OK his first few weeks. You'll have to text him about the sheets.

  14. That's gross about the sheets. FYI, I tried on the metallic loafers. Will review asap. They definitely run TTS in the real world. No need to size up if you usually do in the Crewniverse.

  15. I can totally believe that about the sheets!
Benedict is a very good looking young man - great choice, Wendy.

election results were as expected. I personally am not at all happy with the outcome, but will just have to cope. Many friends are already talking of leaving for a while, of course, they probably won't. The Abbott gov stands for almost everything I disagree with.....plus they plan to cut 4.8 BILLION $ of foreign aid. Ghastly.
