One Outfit to Rule Then All....

I haven't written a style post for a long time, as frankly, I haven't bought clothes in awhile and likely won't until March.  And i am not dressing up much (am actually writing this in my plaid flannel PJs and it's lunchtime here!)  I blame it on the wine last night....

However, I thought of you all while I was getting dressed for a dinner we were hosting for friends (no risque banter  GSL - I'm watching you and will send in Freshy if need be!!!!) last night.

I put on an outfit that is nothing fancy:

  • Black long sleeve cashmere t-shirt from J Crew
  • jeans
  • my old Cole Haan patent loafers
  • big silver earrings

I'd need to make that a tee in the summer...

And I thought (and this is a direct quote) "I love it when I wear this.  I think I could wear this every day for the rest of my life if I had to)

And I was immediately struck that

a) I am pretty simple

and

b) I am channeling Michael Kors

I know, i need the jacket, but I was home after all....

And this got me to thinking: I wonder what outfit everyone here would choose as the outfit they'd wear every day for the rest of their lives; a cousin post to Janet's Forever Wardrobe one that I loved!

And I realized that those black loafers, which are nicely broken in, but probably need a newer mate, are the shoes that make me the happiest in my closet.  What does this mean?????  I have much more expensive shoes, but these are the ones I would grab in a fire!!!

So I want to know about you all - what's your outfit?

******

And now, a small public service announcement:

THE GOLDEN GLOBES ARE ON TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which means:

I don't think anyone makes me laugh more than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler!

So I am counting the hours till the opening monologue, chilling my Prosecco, and getting ready to laugh.  I might even wear my favourite outfit....

Have a happy day!

xoxo Wendy

  2. I have no problem with swimming suit and sarong but in real life black. It won't be the same with Joan rivers and the fashion police round up though...

  3. Your outfit looks comfy and cozy....for me it would be jeans, a white tee and a cashmere cardigan with ballet flats. Diamond stud earrings and my watch.
I am a simple gal too so you are speaking my language.
Enjoy your golden globe prosecco soirée !

  4. I have a few of those cashmere T's and wear them regularly; mine are violet, pale aqua, poppy, grey and are usually worn over one of those tissue turtlenecks in this weather ( -7 F the other morning). Jeans over silk longjohns or yoga pants; nice lined wool tweed pants if I have to go out. Last night for the Patriots game at friends a black cashmere turtleneck over jeans, black frye "Melissa" boots, a copper cuff and diamond studs. (Tom B was brilliant!!)

Definitely a TV night tonight, what with the Globes, second episode of Downton uppertrash and a playoff game that will determine our foe for next week. Just did a 4 mile walk to justify all this sitting.

    1. Lane, adopting that term, uppertrash. And my one major purchase before the snow goes likely the Frye Melissa boots (the "buttonbacks" with zip up back. Good on you with the 4M walk!

    2. I love these boots-- Fryes are usually too big at the heel but these are perfect, the "buttons" are so cute. They were my Christmas present!

    3. Great christmas present! I have 5 or 6 of those tshirts that i've collected over the last few years. I little combing now and then and they are golden!

  5. Head to toe black for me! Some soft cashmere and in a vain effort to hang on to my former rock chic days, my favourite heeled ankle boots. I'm resisting the urge to awaken the beast that is GSL and mention ripped jeans. Think I got away with it! Have a great Golden Globe evening.

  6. Hi Wendy, my outfit would be similar, except the top would be navy and white or ivory stripes, princess cut diamond studs and the shoes would probably be ankle boots (except I wouldn't wear them at home, even for a party!).

  7. Your outfit is about the same as mine, though lately I've switched out the crew-neck cashmere tees for V-necks. But if the JC cashmere sweat pants go down on super sale I will give them some serious thought . . .

  8. Hello Wendy,

If the company is good and the wine flowing freely it is true to say that we would be the last people to know what anyone was wearing. If they were naked however.....

Nine times out of ten we are monochrome couple. With only the touch of something more colourful in a scarf. Only one of us has trousers and the other loves polka dots.

  9. UNIFORMITY Summer: stripe tee, white or dark denim jeans, ballet flats, plimsolls or sandals, depending on destination. Winter: skinny pants, knee high boots, silk blouse or shell, wool jacket, scarf. One constant: watch. If you look at many of the successful/ prominent people in the world, they have a uniform, from the nerdy (Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg) to the political (Obama's grey suits, Hillary's pant suits) to the stylish (Kors, Herrera, DvF) to the historical (QEII's coat, shift dress and sensible shoes trifecta, QEI's massive ruffs to draw focus to her face.) But if I was running from a collapsing domicile, I would bring 1 pair of fabulous high heel pumps and my small stash of Brora fingerless mitts.

  12. I would chose skinny jeans, a slouchy cashmere sweater, a lovely scarf, blouse, a statement necklace, comfy ballet flats, gloves a beanie and a puffer coat. If it is only 1 outfit, I need lots of pieces to work with:) In the summer a caftan , Flipflops and a bathing suit! Totally off topic but I think we both have lost any hope with our George. He seems quite smitten by his lovely wife.

  13. That's a perfect outfit, I'd wear that but I never change my earrings as I'm far too lazy, though I would add pearls. Wish I had those outfit components actually, I need a new black cashmere sweater. I really like the shape of the JCrew ones.
How did you like the GG's? I watched the football first so I didn't last long with it.

    1. I change them daily - today I am in grey pearls a friend bought back from China. I loved the GGs!

  14. I lived in LA and every producer in town wears the MK look. Black mockneck or t-shirt, black blazer, jeans and black loafers. Shoes usually looked nice and polished and the blazer....well, you can't beg for film money in a t-shirt. I grew very tired of the look and saw it as a lazy combo. In the past months I've ben looking for the perfect black, loose sweater to wear with jeans. Happily. It's really an easy look and I'm embracing it again. I love your earrings with it.

    1. I knew I belonged in LA - not! I could never wear black every day - I always ooze over to the print and colour, especially blue. I am searching for the perfect blue sapphire sweater. Perhaps it is a good thing it is eluding me!

  15. I just love my stretchy AG's and the same grey cardigan day after day after day. I really am a uniform person. Your one is a lot smarter than mine. I don't suit black so my uniform is mostly grey or camel.

    1. I wish I could wear camel! I can wear a warm oatmeal, but camel usually eludes me..

  16. Black Eileen Fisher knit pointe cigarette pants, black, grey or blue V neck cashmere pullover, black flats. Earrings always, bracelets always. Pearls most days and scarf.
I'm actually getting very bored with my uniform and planning to step it up a notch. Maybe add a touch more drama to it.

  17. In the fall and winter I live in dark denim, a pullover sweater-usually a v-neck sweater with a scarf and dangly earrings-or tank w/ mid-thigh length cashmere cardigan. Comfort is key. A low black suede bootie is my go to footwear as I very cold feet and always need socks when it's chilly out.
Watched the GG with a good friend. We laughed at so much. Most of the fashion was great - especially the gorgeous cherry red dresses...swoon.

  18. i have never watched the gg before! i'm so glad i did b/c it was hilarious. omg.

ummm you know my look...bland/mediocre/blah. lol

  19. I live in a cashmere dress, tights and stretchy sw boots now. Cozy yet dressy. I could wear it until summer.
