Sunday, Glorious Sunday - and the coral is gone....

What a glorious Sunday!

A quick post, as I am off to the garden center to buy some more geraniums for potting, along with a few other goodies...

It is a wonderful thing when the earth springs to life where one is.

I ooh and aah daily over the little things, like my forget-me-nots, which I think have the most homey of names:

Whenever you aren't sure what colours go together, it is always a good idea to take a look at what Mother Nature has up her sleeve...

And speaking of colour, the coral is gone, replaced by Benjamin Moore's Salisbury Green, which is a lovely shade.  It echoes my bluey-1940s-bottle-green in the kitchen:

And will be equally at home when you look into the dining room when it's painted the pale blue as there are definite blue undertones.  My friend Tammy picked out the colours and she is a genius!

You will note the trim isn't back up yet - hence no baseboard or crown molding - but I couldn't wait to share photos.

I am feeling some big-time love for the room now.  While I loved the dark maroon, it had been on the walls for over a decade...

The colour makes my great-grandmother's paintings pop...

And the bleeding hearts seem perfectly content...

And continuing in my peace theme of Friday, here's a photo of one of my friends, that I hope will make you smile on this lovely Sunday...

And if you want to read a novel that will make you think, pick up W. Somerset Maugham's The Razor's Edge and then head over to Dani's book club, where we discussed the book in detail yesterday, and where the best thing is that Dani keeps the conversation up and going for those who come later to the party.  Thanks Dani!

I hope you all have the loveliest of days.  Stay safe out there!

xoxo wendy

  1. Your home looks so warm and inviting. I can imagine sitting with a good book and a cup of tea in one of your cozy chairs. It is sunny here this morning in Victoria and our resident hummingbirds are flitting about in the garden.
Enjoy your day at the garden Center!

  2. love the paint color Wendy!! Truly a success :)

So funny about the forget me nots bc I bought some seeds as I got into a frenzy after the flower show and caught the bug.

I hope they look as good as yours!

    1. There must be lots of good stuff for yours to eat in your garden. Here the only flowers are the forget-me-nots, bleeding hearts, tulips and daffodils. They NEED my food! ;-)

  4. WMM, smiling at your funny tags. Salisbury Green is actually also a charmingly restored 18th century mansion house, now hotel, on Holyrood Park in Edinburgh. You will be inspired to write another novel in it when you go over to visit the ancient clan.

This makes your family room look larger and airier than the maroon I think and I do love your g'pa's work. Look forward to seeing in person this summer, maybe. Meantime, hummingbirds, bleeding heart and fruits of painting labour (DS?) all look lovely. Thank goodness the Miami Vice moment has passed. And remember coral is for flowers, blusher and sunsets ;-)

    1. I will definitely be looking for that in Edinburgh! Great Grandma, not grandpa - he was a storekeeper and definitely NOT artistic! I saw a coral lamp at Target yesterday and almost bought it for the room as a reminder...

  5. Hi Wendy, the new colour is lovely, very fresh. That was a very fast turnaround!
I keep a folder for paint colours I like and when I was looking for this one I came across this website: http://www.favoritepaintcolorsblog.com/ Lots of inspiration there! Our new house has quite neutral colours, so I won't be changing them just yet, although I will eventually.

    1. Hi Barb! As you know, from being forced to drink tea in the same room, the coral was -er - overwhelming. Never even had to push Barry on this one - he was desperate to repaint!!!

  9. I have some rooms painted a shade which looks like the walls with your grandmother's paintings. It is BM Woodlawn Blue but looks much more green like your shade. I think of it as a relaxing spa color- very pretty. Even though I admire peoples' bolder use of color, I always opt for softer subtle tones for my living I love how calm and pretty the rooms feel to me. I hope you will enjoy your room also.

  10. Hi Wendy, I love the redo of your colors! Would you believe I've never seen a forget-me-not IRL? Guess I really need to come visit ;) I pretty much always smile through your posts, friends included or not so thanks for another one. My yellow friends have been around but they move too fast for me to take a decent pic.

  11. I love the colour Wendy - so fresh and soothing. The room looks just lovely, and as you say it really sets off your paintings. My mum used to grow Forget me Nots in her garden, but they were self seeded and she used to treat them a bit as weeds. I used to love picking posies of them as a child. Looking forward to seeing the continued painting progress xx

Well he is working on putting the trim back and then we are replacing the front door, so I think the dining room waits now for July!

  13. This is an excellent green! Peaceful indeed. Did Barry do this job? Looks rather pro.

I have guys jacking up the columns on the porch all day, replacing rooted wood; bound to be "quiet"day-haha! My barn made it into Maine magazine, though, pretty cool.

  15. Oh I absolutely love that shade, sort of even paler than a duck egg blue, like the clouds on a spring day makes everything looks pretty and is so you!

  20. I really like the calming effect of the green wall color in your lovely home, Wendy.

I just saw a hummingbird buzzing around our lilac tree the other day. I'm so impressed that you were able to get a photo of one that wasn't in motion!
