Style Wednesday - The Late Edition!

Hi all,

Have been beavering away here on many work-related projects, so slipping in my blog here and there as best I can.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged by me, that as soon as I say something definitive about ANYTHING, I immediately do the exact opposite.  (see my old posts on neutrals, which were always followed by colour or vice versa, my statement that blazers were not for me that was immediately followed by me purchasing a blazer, etc, etc, etc.)

So I giggled when I noted to Dani, in comment to her post about her gorgeous new sparkly giraffe print coat, that I had all but given up on wearing much sparkle.

It was sort of true, but not entirely.

I am unsure if this makes me a serial liar or simply someone with underlying magpie tendencies, who, when she tells the universe one thing, immediately has the universe reward her with exactly the opposite.

Or maybe not...

Because sitting in my closet was this sparkle linen cardigan from J Crew, waiting for it's day in the sun:

J.Crew Italian sparkle linen cardigan and swiss-dot tuxedo shirt.

It no longer appears to be there, and to be honest, I bought it about 6 weeks ago during one of the crazy summer promo thingys, because I liked the idea of sparkly neutral pieces.

I wore it for the first time today:

And here is the closeup of the sweater:

I really like this sweater a lot.  Here I have paired it with Gap white jeans, my cole haan loafters, a vera modo sleeveless shell and a scarf from Target, which I swear has the best scarves going!

Merona® Diamond Cut Out Scarf with Gold and Silver Stripes - White

$16.99 and very fresh looking!

I am living in my white jeans these days, since the temperatures are still on the cool side.  These are gap 1969 always skinny white jeans I purchased on sale for $45 to replace my old ones which were looking quite worn.

This is really a Wendy outfit these days.  I am getting a little uniform and it is quite comfortable..

On the happiest of notes, a hummingbird arrived yesterday.  There was much jubilation!  Because whatever else I am, I am most definitely this: a hummingbird lover!

Somebody sent me the following video on Facebook the other day and it made me so happy.  It's the little things, I tell you...

Have  a great day and stay safe out there!

xoxo wendy

  1. Ha! This happens to me too, as soon as I declare something is not for me I change my mind completely and usually end up buying it or something. What is the explanation for this? It's a mystery!
Thank you for the shout-out and I love that sparkly linen cardigan: it sparkles, it is linen, what could be better? The whole outfit is gorgeous and you'd be just as comfortable out in California. Are you sure there's not a California Girl in there somewhere?
BTW if you ever do a Napa tour you're bringing me with you!

    1. I vacillate between SF and Napa and paris for our 30th wedding anniversary next year! Wonder if Jennifer would drive us all from place to place? I am a good drinker, but not sure how many I could do before I curl up under a grapevine someplace...

Dani - I have gone Target crazy! It is my happy place just to walk around. I don't even need to buy anything! What does that say about me???????

  2. It's called being a woman...we are allowed to change our minds every minute if we choose. Sparkly cardigan is just the perfect amount of pizzazz (love that word...my inner Liza is coming out).

    1. Ooh - everyone has an inner Liza, even if they deny it, don't they?

  3. I think you look great in that JCrew cardigan...a little bling is energizing.
I gravitate to sparkly things like a crow but have very few pieces.

We have Target here in town and I have only been twice and their stock was quite low so I dont think I got a real feel for the store.
Will go back and check out those scarves...one can never have too many scarves, or can they?

    1. I like the scarves as they have lots of thinner ones, which look better than the really wide ones on me!

  4. That's the Sparkle Cardigan and is still online, A6840. I don't have it but I love it! I have the Metallic V-Neck Sweater and cannot stop wearing it. Love seeing it with the White Jean. I was already planning that combo tomorrow! Happy to see the combo works. You look great!

    1. Thanks! I looked for it and missed it! I can see that the vneck would be equally as good! thanks for the kind words!

  5. You are in white jeans already?! OK, you are more optimistic than I; this would be a July outfit for me! I just spotted a hummingbird here a few days ago and my bees are now back. I have thousands of daffodils in bloom right now, just glorious, and the warblers are here before they leave to nest up your way. But I am in grey jeans and a citron ( cashmere, still) sweater. I need to get with the program!

    1. It has been cool and dry so white jeans are perfect and in July and August it is too hot around here to wear them, so I am getting them worn while the getting is good! I have only seen a couple of bees, but bought a bee house the other day that I will get Barry to hang for me today!

  6. This is bizarre; my comment dissolved into the ether so I'll try again in case it doesn't reappear. Great everyday outfit and those loafers and cardy are quite nice. This new phase in your life looks great on you Wendy as you look quite re-freshed and lovely.

    1. Thanks GSL! I am taking this compliment gladly as I have been up late lately watching hockey playoffs!

  7. Great outfit, Wendy! Love the sparkles and the scarf! Often, Target and the like have better scarves than more expensive places!
I am in awe of people who can wear white jeans. I am not at all able to wear them!

    1. Ruth - you are so tiny - why don't you wear them?

I agree on the scarves - I couldn't do a $400 scarf as I am an absolute klutz. I already spilt lemon juice on this one that I need to get out today...

    2. It's a combination of being very clumsy - I always, always spill food or wine or coffee on anything white within an hour of putting it on, and the fact that white jeans always make me think of sanitary towel adverts.... Silly, I know!

  8. Great outfit. The sweater was one of the only things to catch my eye in the store. I love it with the white jeans, but I think one must be blessed with your slender legs to wear white denim!

    1. Thanks Knityarns! I do like this cardigan a lot. In the spring and summer I live in my cardigans, as it is cold-hot-cold constantly!

  9. Hello Wendy,

We all need a little sparkle in life....ours generally comes in a glass....that has just been poured from a bottle.....

We love your scarf. One can never have enough of them we think as they jolly up the most serious of outfits in an instant or add a touch of the eccentric when one needs it.

You look so very happy and relaxed. Wonderful!

    1. Jane and Lance - funny you should say that! In honour of the Queen's birthday this coming Monday, I thought I must pick myself up a bottle of Prosecco!

      thanks for the kind words!

  10. I am really loving your monochromatic looks lately. The cardigan and the scarf provide just the right amount of accent and sparkly. I'm liking GAP basics lately. I bought multiples of their black slim cropped pants, so slimming and forgiving.

    1. Marie - I think Gap has really come back this year and I find their clothes more comfortable than any other brands! Having said that, now that the old JC cotton café capris are on their way out, I bought the remaining core colours in my size - black, natural and khaki, as they fit me so much better than the Campbell version and are dressier than my gap chinos!

  11. I grabbed that sweater on the promo also! It's totally useful - sorry, didn't mean to sound like an out of date preteen, but I'm that enthusiastic. I love lightweight summer sweaters for air-conditioned nights, otherwise I'm hunched over in crone mode.

We've been to a few Trooping the Colors ceremonies, where we learned that the Queen's real birthday is in February or some other hopelessly inclement month but her official birthday is celebrated in May or as late as June so that people don't freeze to death while thronging to see the celebrations.

Um, you did mean Elizabeth II, right?

    1. I am right there with you in my enthusiasm!

You are right. The Queen's birthday is April 21st (is April as inclement in the UK as here in Canada - I don't know) but Queen Victoria's was May 24th and we celebrate Victoria Day on the 3rd Monday in May each year, though it is colloquially called the Queen's birthday here! Will be funny when Charles is King. Guess we will go back to Victoria Day!

  12. Love this outfit Wendy! That sparkle sweater is so pretty, and it's perfect with the white jeans. I'm the same way, I go crazy with something for a while (neutrals, color, sparkle), and then have to change it up. So I've sort of given up on saying I'm sticking with "this." :) My white jeans and spring sweaters have never gotten such a workout before, with the cool weather this spring!

  13. But you blogger ladies are all like that. One minute you are just on such a tight budget blah blah blah, the next you are off to Paris..then you are simplyfing your wardobe and in the next post you are showing off your new clothes. It is one thing to change your mind on an item of clothing but another to do the faux OMG budget and OMG simplifying routine.

    1. Hi Anon - excellent comment. I am on a tight budget. I saved for my clothes purchases. I saved to go to Paris in 2012 and if I can save enough air miles and money, I hope to go again for my 30th anniversary, so not sure where that comment came from. And I am simplifying. Most of the things I wear are old. But you do have a point, though I wish you would use your name when you make it. I think you mean this as a critique, but I don't take it as such. And the road to simplifying is a crooked one and I am as infallible as the next person! ;-)

  14. You look great Wendy... This is a lovely outfit. I don't dare much white trousers. They don't really survive a day with me. Wishing you well.

  15. What a pretty outfit! I'm a secret magpie too.

  16. My goodness, you are up late!! I thought I was a night owl. I just can't see you ever giving up on the sparkle completely. It seems part of your natural chemistry. And yes, BB is right. We are women and allowed to change our minds on any whim, at any time, just because. And I do think you need to get over to Instagram, and join in the addiction, I mean fun! xoxo

  17. Hi Wendy, I have to admit, I was totally inspired by your look when I was in J. Crew yesterday - I scooped the metallic V-neck sweater for $30 from the sale rack. I have never worn a metallic sweater before but it was a really fun item to wear. Nothing wrong with changing your mind! If we wore the same thing all the time, it would be very boring. Hope you have a great weekend!
